Why is smurfing still allowed?

Arcade Andrew·2/14/2016, 5:51:20 PM·20 votes·2,806 views

Because nothing ruins my game more than the enemy top lamer saying "Gg bronze noobs are so easy" followed by "sorry (insert me here) I'm a diamond smurf"

Or they say "your top got owned by a diamond smurf"

LIKE IS THAT SUPPOSED TO BE A BAD THING?! IM SORRY IM NOT AT DIAMOND SKILL YET!

Some people want to play with their friends who just started.

Smurfing is fine. Smurfing and being an asshole about it is something else entirely.

Riot approves of high elo players being allowed to easily pop in and shit all over low elo whenever they feel. The amount of players that smurf is endless and Riot makes sure to start them at the bottom and you know "the system over time will work them out" Well why is it over that time low elo players games have to suffer. Why not drop everyone in Diamond and let the system work it out? OH because their games are important and low elo players shouldn't expect to be treated equal.

Smurfing should be perm. bannable.

Smurfing is not really a bad thing

  1. you get an experience playing with a skilled player, therefore learning something new.

2.you will "want" to ward.

  1. There are no concrete system to accurately detect a smurf account..we jave to wait till riot introduce fingerprint to log-in.(or something close)

It isn't, but what are they going to do about it? It's not bad because they are trashtalking. For ranked players, getting matched vs diamonds is a great way to accelerate your learning. But not everyone who plays this game wants to climb the ladder. Sometimes, people just want to treat this like a pub match on Dustbowl, and why shouldn't they? That's what normals are for. They don't care about getting better. When THESE people get matched with diamonds, they just say, 'fuck this' and leave.

Couple things here. You cannot stop smurfing. It's a free game, and they do not do IP Bans. Blame Riot for placing everyone in Silver after placement matches.

Also not all smurfs want to be smurfing, I was smurfing and I went 17-3 in 20 games. In Bronze and Silver, the only times I lost were because of extreme toxicity, AFK's, Trolls, and Ragers..I much rather have my 2nd account automatically put back up to Diamond where I don't have to deal with these people.

To me as someone who's smurfed, It's a completely different game that high elo. In high elo it is expected you know what you are doing. I can't just randomly pick Twitch ADC because I feel like having fun that game. If I do not know Twitch mechanics inside out I will be destroyed and lose LP and everything I worked for to get that high up.

I cannot take a chance at Top Lane against a Top Lane Riven main in Diamond. In high elo you either play normals or play seriously competitively. Also most high elo players are by nature competitive people which is why we are spending time to be so good at a random video game, even if it's a hobby or not, we like being good at things.

Normals are not competitive, and never will be. For a competitive person who's Diamond there's no satisfaction of winning a No Elo game where people aren't even trying because it's norms and nothing is at stake.

So we make smurfs, we play ranked and see low elos trying to piece together their useless builds, see the occasional good player who will rise up eventually, see people rage at nothing, AFK for no reason, Troll and idiots... and it's actually kind of funny to read their logic, especially with friends around., but hey, at least I can pick Twitch ADC and punish them for 30 LP because I'm going to win my lane regardless of what you play. Then watch then complain how Twitch is OP and I only won because i'm lucky and/or their team sucks.

what is upsetting you is a player bad mannering (BM).... riot wont take away toxicity completely as its in their best interest (profits) that they dont ban so many people.... smurfs are also in the best interest of riot ($$$)

more accounts means more $$ in different ways... why they also wont link accounts

agreed though.... they were a jerk and you should report them for beign a jerk... btut then, im not reporting people much anymore... i just dont see the point, nothing gets better

Ionian2/16/2016, 6:09:20 PM1 votes

Because people get tired of 30 min queue times on their main accounts.

GamblerOfLives2/16/2016, 7:05:07 PM1 votes

but it's fun

EL HAMSTERO2/17/2016, 7:12:14 AM1 votes

how would you stop it? there is no way

GRVet3ran0sS2/18/2016, 4:23:17 PM1 votes

If they didn't ban us we wouldn't smurf

Z Statistic2/18/2016, 10:34:25 PM1 votes

It technically isn't, but there's no way to reliably prove it or solve it.

Smurfing is good because it only increases Riot's player-count.

Dude this thread is from 3 years ago, and the last post was 9 months ago. If you're planning on replying to a thread, filter out anything older than a month when you search.

Yea, a system needs to be put in place so silvers stop getting paired up with diamonds. It isn't fun for anybody. :-)

cele ducke guy2/15/2016, 8:08:33 AM1 votes

how do you propose they combat smurfing? retinal scan?

Filthy Wook2/16/2016, 4:09:34 PM1 votes

OK i just need to point out that in the situations you gave, it sounds like they are just boasting about being good (not actually diamond) and if they are, then they need a higher MMR and are probably at your level or near it if you are in the same matchmade game

dovahkiincutie2/16/2016, 5:53:44 PM1 votes

there is a lot of frustration here, but i would urge you to hear me out.

people have completely legitimate reasons to make smurf accounts outside of just stomping on people in lower levels/elo. like playing with their friends, trying out new things in ranked without affecting their main account, testing, etc. there are just a lot of reasons and not all of them are malicious.

second, placements aren't about your skill level. like any other sport where you have to climb a ladder, competition is a driving force. it wouldn't make any sense for people to start where they left off in a style of competition that is always changing. there were a ton of changes just within preseason and the start of the new season alone. placements are literally just a place for you to start out in the new season, they are not representative of your skill as a player. where you get to after placements as you climb - that's a different story.

What I never understood, is when a Diamond+ player loses against golds and lower and mouths off about how he's Diamond and we're all trash

Then go back to Diamond fool lol.

But in all seriousness, smurfing causes too many issues and honestly shouldn't be allowed in a game like this.
