Idea To Make Tank Items Still Attractive to Tanks with Reduced Stats- Flat Damage Reduction

Flat damage reduction is actually more effective on characters with more Armor aka Tanks since the less damage you take, the more a difference flat damage reduction makes. Reducing 10 damage from a 350 burst of damage is almost meaningless, but reducing 10 damage from 75 damage is pretty great! So, here is my idea on Tank items post-update with the idea that Tank and Juggernaut base stats are getting increased to rely less on items to be durable:

Thoughts? The flat reductions could probably have names like Physical Block and Magical Block.

I don't think you realize how high those numbers would have to be to justify a tank building them. Through 300 armor/mr, I still see damage hits pop up saying 600 damage. So what, I have two of those items and block 20 damage woooo. I blocked 20 damage...

I want a tank item that gives 12% damage reduction, just flat. Cause you know adc's get it. item 3046

if that is achieved maybe you could build in such a way as to completely ignore one type of damage as it is flat reduction

CancerBasedGod1 votes

You could. Multi hit abilities hit low amounts per tick, so they would be easy to negate. Also AAs from characters that had low AD would become harmless.

Meep Man1 votes

I increase the benefits across the board.

The absolute maximum of each amount that you can achieve is: -115 Physical Damage (realistically -100 with Boots) -75 Magic Damage (realistically -65 with Boots)

Bias towards magic damage since there are far more Magic Damage DoTs when compared to Physical Damage DoTs. Also, Magic Resist is generally lower than Armor normally AND I also believe they will be introducing more heavy MR items in the Tank Update, so it will likely be about 80-90 max.

What does - 115 physical damage mean ?

Meep Man1 votes

It means all forms of non-DoT or Multi-Hit Physical Damage would be reduced by 115. Meaning, say, if you invested 100% into Armor without any Magic Resist and half of your build also not giving Health, a basic attack that would normally deal 200 damage post-armor now deals 85 damage.

MaeDoSan1 votes

So you basically want to rework the whole of lol because no adc with a full build does a 200 damage aa

Meep Man1 votes

Actually, with base stats going up to reduce the effectiveness of Bonus Armor Penetration, Black Cleaver's AD getting nerfed, and Damage masteries getting nerfed across the Board, post-Tank rework it might be realistic for an ADC at full build to deal 200 damage per AA to a Tank at full build.

MaeDoSan1 votes

Lol wot ? Caitlyn crits for 2k now Its the % dmg reduction that stops it from deleting tanks -110 damage is gonna do nothing unless you nerf all ad items

GigglesO1 votes

I also forgot to mention this progressively gets worse the higher the damage value. at 1500 damage (before armor) thornmail would need to block 35.7 damage to justify the loss in 20 armor.

CancerBasedGod1 votes

This would be broken. Taking a thorn mail early would make you almost immune to early game basic attacks. In general stacking these would make any low poer rapid fire ability absolutely useless. Things like MF bullet rain that deal rapid small ticks would be ruined. Hell MF ult could be reduced to 0, since it is a small damage 16 times.

Meep Man1 votes

I should have noted that Multi-Hit I also consider DoT so MF ultimate would be affected by a maximum -25 Physical Damage at full build if you focused on Armor and Bullet Rain a maximum of -13~ Magic Damage at full build if you focused on Magic Resist.

EDIT: Edited the main post to reflect this.

CancerBasedGod1 votes

that is -400 on an MF ult, which after armor still means it would be almost completely negated. The bottom line is this would require all multihit abilities to be reviewed and almost all rebalanced.

Meep Man1 votes

No offense, but this would no where near negate an MF ultimate even if in the end it was 400. MF ultimate deals 2400 Physical Damage with just 200 Attack Damage. Physical Damage DoTs would likely need to be looked at, but, at the same time, realize that in order to gain the maximum benefit from Armor, this would be your build: item 3075 item 3110 item 3025 item 3742 item 3068 item 3143 Absolutely zero resistance against Magic Damage and only half of your build gives you any bonus health. Not to mention your Frozen Heart and Randuin's are strange to have WITH a Thornmail where you want people to attack you quickly.

EDIT: Changed the effect to have a maximum effectiveness against DoT and Multi-Hit effects from 75% reduced effectiveness.

What?

Tanks are powerful, I have no idea what you're talking about.t

I spam Sejuani Rammus and Nautilus and go full tank and almost every time hard carry by tanking all the damage and locking things down. I almost always go with a full tank build when playing those and it works.

I don't know what this "tanks can't tank anymore" hysteria is about.

This is post Tank Rework when all Tank Items are getting nerfed and all base stats are getting buffed. This is so Tanks still have some incentive to buy Tank items.
