I'm still waiting for this change in a patch

"We adjusted how collision detection works so now champions should path through minions in a smoother and more predictable manner, and will no longer get "stuck" in dense groups of minions."

am I dreaming too big?

Yes you are dreaming like 6 years in advance

Nah, this one is pretty reasonable. We could see this in 2 years.

This is Riot.

We will be lucky to recieve word that they are working on this in a decade from now.

I'm waiting for Morgana's Q to have its hitbox fixed.

MyAccountYouGuys1 votes

Just its particle effect, THAT is where the bone of contention is. The size of the hitbox itself is fine-just needs a little clarity. Hell, it's not even consistent across her skins! You have to learn how to dodge it all over again based on how much money your opponent spent on her.

How would you fix it? Do you know what's causing the problem?

MyAccountYouGuys1 votes

That's not a fair question. Would you happen to be a minion pathing program expert? It may be an insanely complicated issue for all we know, but some word on it at least would be nice.

Lneacx3 votes

I think I phrased my question wrong. How about "How do minions act right now? How do you expect them to act?"

MyAccountYouGuys1 votes

Ah, I see. Well, in that case...right now they've got a LEEEEROY JENKIIINS attitude and suicide rush the turrets and enemy base, with no regard for allied champions. If I were to suggest anything, if they detect an allied champion moving towards them, say within 200 units, they will do their best to path so that the champion will have a straight line open between the minions and their destination.

What if they're auto-attacking? Would they stop auto-attacking to make way for you?

If they don't stop auto-attacking, then chances are you'll still get creep blocked anyways. It's the stationary, fighting mob of creeps that block you (I think. Do champions get locked down by minions not in combat?).

If they do stop auto-attacking when you step within 200 range (or any range, I'm guessing), then players won't be able to stand near their own minions at all. Much of laning phase is spent near your own minion wave.

Hmm, pricklier issue than I thought. I'm not qualified for this, so I'll leave it up to someone with more experience to figure it out.

So, pathfinding is awful to program. It will never be perfect. Ever. A* and Dijkstra's methods are two of the more commonly used ones in games, but you can get some more information about it on this wiki.

TL;DR: Pathfinding is a monster to code.

All I want is consistency. Things like targon not executing shaco's jitb or Singed not beign able to AA post-Fling.

MyAccountYouGuys1 votes

They intentionally made Targon's charges not work on enemy summons-no executing Tibbers and what not. If there are any that still are affected by it, that just means they haven't gotten around to fixing it yet.

ploki1221 votes

I know that they haven't got to it "yet" (more like they never looked for other awkward cases imo since it's not that hard to change most probably and it's not that hard to find either). It doesn't change the fact that they're all half-assed patchwork... Singed and Alistar's behavior have exactly the same problems, but since Ali has risen in popularity, they patch Alistar and leave the other abuse case unpatched, because making a job thoroughly would've taken maybe 1-2 hours more.

MyAccountYouGuys1 votes

Maybe they just didn't know about the Singed thing?

In any case, yeah Riot has a habit of half-assing the little things.

Just buy a phantom dancer on every champion. lulz

You do realize that creep control as well as management of your own creeps so you don't get CREEP BLOCKED is a skill in itself right
