Is it just the hate?

Teemo, he is classed as a marksman. He has a blind, a semi escape, a virtually endless supply of traps, and with something like his on hit build he does solid damage.

So why is he never a bottom lane marksman? Seems like he would be bullish in the early game, that fits the current META. He is not hard to survive with..You could easily keep him bottom if support wants to roam. He can protect a lane from ganks as good as anyone with his shrooms. So is it really just the hate that keeps him from being a bottom lane carry?

Probably because Marksmen like Caitlyn have a longer auto attack range than he does and crit damage kills faster than damage-over-time

His range is tiny, which is not safe.

His AS steroid on passive is not easy to utilize in most trading situations, particularly late game when the numbers are actually noticeable. His damage on E is useful, but not anywhere near a standard ADC steroid's level of damage output. He doesn't have AD scaling on any abilities, limiting his ability to burst people. He has nothing but damage to assist or deter a gank pre-6, and mushrooms are very hit-or-miss (literally) after 6. He wins in top lane by taking advantage of kiting and bullying; that's harder to pull off versus two people, particularly when one of them usually specializes in some combination of ranged CC, sustain, and strong magic damage.

You can try playing him in a dozen games yourself to see why he's not popular. It's not just the hate :)

P.S. Cottontail Teemo ftw

If someone were going to try it out...What supports do you think he would pair well with?

I haven't tried it myself in literally years, so remember this is just theoretical, but my order of preference would be:

  1. Aggressive mages - Teemo's best trades are ones where the enemy can't fight back, which was his traditional top lane strength versus champs like Tryndamere. So if you get someone like Vel'Koz or Brand that can poke and threaten enough burst to dissuade the enemy from engaging on you in neutral situations and also provide offensive assistance in ganks, that would go a long way to making sure you get to level 6 in the first place. Teemo doesn't have the burst to kill anyone with a support from full health, so anyone like Draven+Leona or Lucian+Braum could engage on you and kill you at any time if you don't soften them up first.

  2. Traditional poke supports with disengage - As mentioned in the previous section, it's dangerous for the enemy to know you have no way to kill them, so the poke would be helpful. Not as strong as a dedicated mage, but the extra safety afforded by kits like Karma's and Lulu's will still hopefully get you past early game.

  3. Defensive tank supports - Champs like Alistar/Braum/Tahm Kench that can break up a gank or save you in other ways.

  4. Offensive tank supports and passive utility supports - If Leona (or aggressive Alistar) goes in on them 1v2, you don't have much follow up or ways to help disengage, so she's probably going to die. And since your scaling isn't that great, sitting back with Janna/Soraka and letting the enemy scale up safely would probably be a bad idea.

I would say Teemo pretty much should counter Draven ADC, since his entire damage is built on his autos. You blind him, he can't do his insane damage against you. The problem is most ADCs have more abilities that can damage you from range(Lucian MissFortune Ashe) , or their auto attack range is just insanely better(Caitlyn JinxTristana ).

I wouldn't say it's impossible to do... with the right team comp it might be possible...

might be...

But his range is short compared to regular adc, he's even squishier than most. He can't rely on life-steal for sustain. The nature of his kit makes him a better solo-laner.

He's what i'd consider a ''cheese'' adc. It either works, of fails miserably. And even when it works, it's not so great.
