I think it's time Riot adds a third primary stat. (AP, AD, PD?)

I don't think AP and AD are cutting it anymore for champion balancing, I mean they've been around since the beginning with only 16 or so champs. We're at a hundred now and forcing champs and items around this unchanged system is starting hurt the game. Specifically with fighters becoming tanky AND brutal in damage, because if we change the items for the ADC the fighter wants them too.

Why not add a new stat, split up AD as Force Damage and Precise Damage. (Force Damage stays red, Precise Damage is now yellow)

All the crafty, swift and cunning archers, assassins and ninjas now get ratios from Precise Damage or PD instead of AP/AD. It always kind of bugged me that characters like Nidalee and Akali both require AP, when nothing about their attacks really scream magic to me. Yes magic is involved but seriously it's not a beam of light they're shooting, they're stabbing and biting and chucking spears and knives.

PD would still counts as physical damage, hence still affected by armor. Hell the glyphs are already set up for it, with red being the FD, yellow PD and blue AP. Any trinity force could actually have 3 different stats, with the new PD on zeal.

TL:DR, create a new source of damage, adjust ratios of champs that are archers/ninjas to use this new dexterity ratio, solves Fighters wanting the same items as Marksman somewhat. Still a bit of work but healthier in the long run.

Dude a tank has to build 3 different stats there for making there over all resisting lower. Making them useless.

PD sounds like critical damage.

But what exactly would this address? I fail to see how AD and AP fail for balancing.

A prime example, let's say we have a group of marksman champs struggling. Simply put, the fighters are able to kill them quicker than they can, there's no chance because of the kits of the fighters including defensive cooldowns, gap closers and CC. Marksmans have a lot of buttons to kill things, maybe 1 cc of some kind and 1 for an ult, but the fighters are the better choice, because they benefit from being both tankier AND dealing damage. They eat up items like Bloodthirster and Black Cleaver, and things that you might like on a Marksman as well. Riot has some options, nerf the fighters, or buff significantly the marksmans. It's very binary. You can't touch the items because atm AD is a single pool of water that both fighters and marksmen drink from.

Now imagine the Precide Damage world, Fighters as a whole are overbearing marksmen, and instead of adjusting each fighter separately (annoying and time consuming with several groups of champ-lovers enraged) you adjust the AD items, while the new PD items keeps the Marksmen at the current level.

As for what IS and isn't split up, added, etc. It's not my place to say. I'm just saying that It allows easier balancing in my opinion.

Attack Damage is to increase the damage on your attacks Ability Power is to make your abilities more powerful

this is a simple and straight forward mechanic in the game, which Riot forgot why AD and AP exists, but Attack Damage and Ability Power is already the divided up values

It just sounds like a ploy to sub divide the champions, and their item builds even further. AP works well for all ability users. And there's no reason why AP can't do physical damage . (Aside from the fact that theirs no Armor pen item with AP and vise versa)

Riot probably came to the conclusion at some point where using AD exclusively for Auto attacks, seldom led to interesting game play from AD based champions. Though Their abilities shouldn't out strip that of Mages and other AP champions.

But if we wanted other scaling mechanics, they should be based off other (unusual) stats, on specific champions where they make sence. (like max mana ratios, or reduced CDR with AS)
