It's nice that they added that option, but at the same time, I'm wondering: why not flat out give Morde an option to cast it alone (of course, give also an option to cast on minions, so he can use it as optional escape tool like prerework)? What is so scary in having Morde get the DoT part? Too high damage in 1v1 scenarios? Come on, he has no CC nor mobility, he can't stick to his enemies without Rylai, and later in the game his damage falls off anyway. Too fast jungle clear? If that would become a problem, it is very easy to fix - make it deal reduced damage to jungle monsters if he casts it alone (full damage when being with ally, so it doesn't nerf his team fighting potential for objectives like dragon). Riot, what's so taboo about giving Morde his W?

They want to try and force him into the gimmicky Pretend ADC role, because that totally worked out after the Marksman Update for the better. As well as basically gutting AP Mordekaiser.

Jotunheimr2 votes

AP Mord was gutted? I build mostly AP with magic pen and I do pretty well most games.

Infernal Cypher3 votes

I think he's talking about the initial rework, where he stopped being solely an AP metal mage (like he's supposed to be imo) and became some weird AP/AD hybrid made for duo lanes. AP's still been feasible, but its nowhere near as strong as it used to be (RIP +70% max hp dmg ult).

Jotunheimr4 votes

HOLY DANG A 70% HEALTH ULT?!?!?!??? That's awsome!!

It's a shame I never had the chance to play pre-rework Mord. Honestly, I picked him up because of Mordekaiser memes I saw online xD and he was on sale to boot.

Infernal Cypher2 votes

Yeah it was pretty fun. If you got items to bring your AP near 1000 the ult would do ~70% max hp in magic damage to your enemy, half in an initial burst and half over time. It was ridiculous but not as bad as it sounds because of MR and since it was DOT.

ZT Xperimentor2 votes

At least they're finally undoing some of the damage; their blatant ignorance was insulting. http://boards.pbe.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/champions-gameplay-feedback/KhcvQBlG-mordekaiser-change-summary-feedback-thread

As soon as the morde mains get any or all of the changes you just listed, they will NEVER go bot lane again if they can help it. We lived for crushing people in 1v1s, not having our hands held like babies

SpecterVonBaren3 votes

Honestly, making it so Morde can duo lane isn't a bad idea, or at least, making it so his abilities can be used on allies. Morde is supposed to be the lord of a horde of undead soldiers. Having it so he can use his W on allies like he's taking control of them to send them into a fight actually sounds pretty cool. Currently the way they did it is gimicky but it COULD work.

JedenVojak3 votes

Except it doesn't work like that at all, it's more like he's completely dependent on allies to function at all or he just fails.

Jotunheimr4 votes

Huehue damage falls off late? I scale hard into late with my Mord play, huehue.

Perhaps they dont want single circle DoT because of Q.

Honestly, its ok. Solo castable on minions is enough. It helps Mord, who is item reliant, to focus cs more. It's a great change really.

Im stoked

Count Zubat2 votes

I myself found Mord's damage to fall off late game, I don't know what build do you go, but myself I go Rylai, Zhonya, Abyssal, Randuin/Deadman (depending on situation), Spirit Visage. Maybe your build is more damage oriented, but I don't prefer building damage only items like Rageblade, I feel to squishy with them.

Jotunheimr1 votes

I do the YouWillDieBeforeIDo Mord build.

Nashors, Rylias, Guinsoos, Swifties(at this point shield is always up and I melt people very quickly) than Liandrys, Ludens/Will of Ancients, and than DMP/SV.

Last two item slots are situational.

I always melt people by building like this.

Always shield Never die

Sure, you are squishy, but you melt people, have strong ass heals, and a stron ass heal. Its worth it

Count Zubat3 votes

While such build gives you huge damage, it has one huge flaw: if you get hard CC'd, you die. Same if you get kited. You said it yourself, you are squishy as hell, but when you start dealing damage, you survive (similar to how old Morde worked), but first, you need to get close to your enemies. Very risky playstyle,.

Jotunheimr1 votes

True BUT this is why I run ghost, flash, and 2 mobility quints and build AP.

Let me explain: You see cc incoming either I doge since I get early Mobility that Mord needs, or I will activate w before it hits if I cant dodge. I e for shield, heal on w, get a fat heal, q, r for another fat heal, and proceed to wreck faces.

Ghost and flash allows escapes for Mord, as well as for securing kills for hold. My Mord play signifigantly increased in power when I ran mobility. He needs it. When they have lots of cc, Ill do my normal mixed AS core build, with SV and Will of the Ancients to do my heal trick. SV gives cdr, health, MR(as lots of cc champs are AP in my games, and that 20% healing is nice) while WoA boosts my heals TWOFOLD because of AP, CDR for crazy spam, and Spell Vamp.

The AS allows me to hit q's fast, so by capitilizing on my heals and hitting q super fast, I can still get at least a kill or two if they lower my hp while cc'd. As a result, I turn teamfights around and give my allies an advantage.

Silences tho. Ouch. But if Im silenced, its ok because with Guinsoos stacked, my AA is nice, and once I get my abilities back, someone will die

Jotunheimr1 votes

On another note, the high AS and damage melts those who use warlords, because I will hit faster than they heal.

I had a HUGE problem using my old tanky build when the preseason came out, so I thought of ways to counter it.

AS, massive damage, and sregthening the heals work quite nicely.

Mord is all about timing in his current state.

None of that works if you get CC'd once. Hence it doesn't work out of bronze.

Jotunheimr2 votes

Ahh I see.

I'm climbing out of Bronze by spamming Mordekaiser; this could be why.

From b5 to b3.

I'd be farther ahead, but I work a lot, so yeah.

While you have a good idea by building heavy sustained damage coupled with heavy healing, you're way too squishy and will melt instantly if you're CC'd. In lower elo, people tend to either pick less champions with CC/utility or not use them properly, so it's easier to get away with squishy builds. A simple Nami or Janna Q is enough to get you killed without contributing anything to a fight.

Now that Morde's third Q gimmick is mostly gone, you have to build strong defenses. I believe Nashor's will still be a useful item since it gives atkspeed while also having a lot of AP and CDR, the latter particularly being an amazing stat for Morde but difficult to itemize for. For instance, Spirit Visage is a FANTASTIC item for him but so is Abyssal Scepter, and there are games you might want the early MR + damage spike and building a second MR item likely won't be good.

I've tried WotA after the Q nerf, and I don't think it's bad, but Gunblade is a far better item - especially with the new passive healing you from your ghost's attacks, which is pretty insane. WotA is still a valuable source of CDR... it's hard to think of a way to cap CDR without sacrificing your rune page heavily and, more importantly, sacrificing your tankiness.

Jotunheimr1 votes

The CDR is one one the main reasons I like WoA, on top of healing from the AP and spell vamp.

Honestly, I have not built hextech on him in awhile because, well... It takes so long to get. Although what you said about the passive healing from the ghost... It makes me want to bear with the wait now. It'd also go well with Guinsoos, too.

Now back to the cc, I tend to run 2 mobility quints and get early boots as I geab my items. I like to dodge skillshots as much as I can.

Something to know abiut me: I have played other champs with cc, mobility, what have you, and I've found what fits my playstyle are hard hitting melee champs. Play safe early, farm, punish the enemy if they get too close.

I played Olaf for a gooooodddd while and liked it. I like sustaining lane, poking, focusong cs, and all inning when they are low enough. Since I prefer immobile melee champions, I use MS quints, have mobility summoner spells, and get boots pretty early.

Sustain is my thing. Ive also tried Vlad, AAtrox and Warwick; just couldnt get the hang of him.

You can only dodge so much CC. Being an immobile melee that has to walk up to people to do damage, you will get CC'd and if you don't have tanky items, having the worst base stats of any melee in the game you will blow up. I also like movespeed quints on Morde, probably gonna stick to using them.

Aatrox and Warwick are garbage champions so don't worry if you did bad with them (I also love Aatrox but he's just terrible). Vlad on the other hand is one of my favorite champions in the game both as character and playstyle.

Well danf. I normally will sit on the backlines of a team fight until someone engages, than flip w, q, e q2, ult, q3, and heal my ally before they die, pop ghost and kill 2 more. Maybe I'm doing something wrong than. Hmm.

I like Deadmans on him, but I'm really afeaud getting tank early on Mord because I do so badly, and tend to get ganked a lot. Even when I start tank, the ganks melt me, and Im ALWAYS ganked.

As a melee, I normally wont engae unless they are low enough to take out.

As Olaf I build 2 resistances, swidtues, and LS. When the preseason, I carried hard with hom(the LS buffs for preseason really buffed Olaf, wow). It's too bad Olaf falls off late. Thats why Ive been playing Mord lately; my Mord play scales hard into late. Noone can take me alone, or even two. If fed I can take 3 or 4 when focused and alone, but I like to push objectives asap.

It's my thing. :)

I mean, if it's working at your playing level, by all means go for it. Build what works best for you.

Morde has always been and will always be a priority target for junglers, particularly because it's so hard for him to come back now that his exponential scaling on Q is gone.

You shouldn't go tank early, of course. You usually want to build a few damage items before you feel like you need pure defense items - however there are items that you can get both with, such as Abyssal and Sterak's, and they're great buys.

It's still kind of unclear what to build on him tbh. Depends a lot on each game and teamcomps. Even his playstyle can vary a lot, he's definitely the most versatile juggernaut.

Decrit1 votes

Do you know that nashors damage, and overall any magic damage from items, does not generate shield?

Jotunheimr1 votes

What are you talking about? My shield upkeep is amazing with my build.

Morde's damage given from abilities geants sjield, and AP gives damage yo all abilities

Decrit1 votes

I am saying that the nashor damage on hit does not increase the shield. That' s how item works unless bugged.

I am not arguing that you do not generate enough shield ( actually attack speed helps proccing more Q striker faster ) or that nashor is totally useless, just pointing you this.

Jotunheimr1 votes

Wait, Nashors is supposed to grant on hit effects? Hiw could I have missed that.

Thanks for the info tho; and yes, its primarily the AS to get Q off and CDR for ability spam.

With my old tank build I used to use, Id q, and the shield would degenerate faster than I could gain it, for the most part.

Q wise, anyways. Q1, small shield, gone, Q2, same thing, than Q3. But the AS and Cdr allows ability spam and rapid shield generation. Gives for many hues.

Decrit1 votes

And to think old Morde has one of the best late game innate attack speed

Jotunheimr1 votes

I can imagine that was really awsome.

You know, the first time I built AS on Mord, I was using the Pentakill skin, and I laughed sooooooooooo much because it looked so funny.

I was pleasently surprised to see that it was effective. I was super fed in game, and tried something new. Given how strong it seemed, I used to take out Warlords abusers.

Luckily for me, it worked.

I cant get over how funny high AS Morde looks. XDDD

It's even funnier because they die HUEHUE

Jotunheimr1 votes

Alright, could not this on the wiki; I feel really stupid right now, lol. Could either you or Mordepool explain this to me?

If the AP I'm building is not boosting my abilities by increasing damage my abilities deal, than am I able to keep my shield up at a nice rate because I have simply upped the rank of my abilities themselves as I level, plus the AS to get Q procs off fast enough to build shield, not have it stay in the same spot? You know, and the 40% mid game cdr for ability spam.

That's the jist of it right?

Because now that I think of it, considering Mords low base health, if I WAS getting shield up for the full AP damage, itd go full in a hit or two, huh?

Jotunheimr1 votes

I'm allllllllll about the always shield never die aspect of Mord; I want total understanding of everything on him. And thanks for the info guys, yall are awsome

Decrit1 votes

Iiii don' t understand exactly what' s the problem o_o so i try to be broad

http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/Nashor's_Tooth

This item increases attack speed, AP and cdr, plus gives a bonus on hit magic damage based on AP

The abilities of morde generate a shield equal to 25% of the damage dealt to champions ( and half of it for everything else ), and since they scale AP getting AP increases the damage dealt, hence increases the shield generation. The only exception here is the E, that always gains a base line of shield plus shield generated by damage.

Increasing AP then increases the shield generation rate. Increasing attack speed allows you to land faster the Q hits and getting CDR allows you to spam more and keep more shield.

Then there is the passive effect of Nashors: building AP also increases damage dealt by attacks. However this is not a mordekaiser ability, so the damage from that does not increase the shield: only abilites do!

Jotunheimr1 votes

Okay, as I'd thought.

Wow, I can't believe I've never seen thaf Nashor's tooth passive! Cool stuff. Thanks.

Mordepool1 votes

Decrit is correct about that. Damage from item sources don't apply Shield

Jotunheimr1 votes

That's crazy. I wonder why that is, if Mords damage from abilities are supposed to generate shield, if stat damage increase isnt supposed to increase shield.. How is he supposed to work?

Ahhh well, I still kerp my shield up sonehow

But to be fair, you are level 20, so people are still learning the game at that point, don't know how to counter Mord, and tend to not build resistances. So, as you move up, you better perfect your timing and technique for when it gets signifigantly harder to do that well.

Good luck, and may the hue be with you!

Ps- Im glad you like my build path. :) it's super risky, but so funny.

DeathBurst1 votes

It's to give the ability some counterplay. If you snipe the minion, Morde loses the DoT (and the MS too, I guess?). More interactivity, ways for opponents to prevent him loading his shield.
