sej rework is too big of a departure from the original champion
and in a very bad way
originally sej was less of a tank and more of a very tanky bruiser; in lieu of a strong defensive steroid (no shield, healing, just a measly amount of armor) she was allowed to have high-scaling damage, and was more of a selfishly-oriented direct threat than someone like nautilus who would hold you down for his team. being a 'damage tank with strong initiation' should have been what stayed. nothing about new sej harks back to what she used to be (a legitimate carry-tank with a strong late game) and has lost almost everything that made her fun. in fact i would say that her new design is equally problematic because you can win or lose entirely based on champ select, and she's going to be yet another champ who has wild variance between pro-play and soloQ success.
there's no such thing as making a big play with her anymore. you jump on people, then after a while you get to stun them and do some extra damage, and then that's it. it's POWERFUL, but it's not a big play. the SATISFACTION of her old ult being able to stun an entire team is gone and you're left with an ult that feels like garbage with an aoe component that doesn't matter. no, instead, your biggest power isn't even actually yours -- it's when you have melee teammates that you suddenly become unfairly good in teamfights and skirmishes, because any melee with attack speed or auto resets will stack for you without any effort on your part beyond pressing E when it's ready. that's not fun; i don't want my teammates to play the game for me, and to be completely WORTHLESS if my team locks in all ranged after I pick Sej. and it's horrible to play against because sejuani can now chain-stun you without so much as a skillshot just by being in the vicinity with her allied renekton. 'skill expression' is a meme; garen is now more complex than she is after the change to his W
and there's something we need to make clear; being an ult bot is NOT a bad thing. strong ults feel great and provide very clear windows of power on their availability. old sej's actual problem, much like malphite, was her base kit being far too straightforward. She gets on you and then spams W and E off cooldown, hitting you with spammy guaranteed slows and targeted nuke into a pbAOE. That's bland to fight, even if some of us had fun using it. The 'theme' of the kit was not inherently a problem. The low counter play of it was, where she'd hit her late game stride and then decimate people just by walking on them. i don't care for her new W as a spell, either (that's not how you use a flail) , but it's 'healthier' because you can at least avoid the damage. going into the future i would MUCH RATHER retune her new kit to match more closely to the old one in terms of pick purpose and overall power curve. less hard CC and more damage, less innate tankiness, and give me my 5 man ult back. i want to feel like a badass when i play a champion who looks the part, not a support.
I've said it before and I'm not going to stop saying it; if I wanted to play a team-slave CC machine I would play Nautilus or Leona. Sejuani had her character already set as a diver/tank hybrid, with a strong late game and high carry potential. she should have kept that and been reworked around that premise. it's a crime to have her as anything else (except a juggernaut ;) )
p.s i'm not going to stop making sej threads
