Should Mordekaiser receive another Rework? Is he currently an acceptable champion?

So I have been debating with myself about this for a long time. While I did not play Mordekaiser Mordekaiser before his rework, I couldn't help but catch a whiff of all the mixed emotions going around about how they either butchered the Iron Revenant, or just made him a more lop-sided and just overall under powered juggernaut, in terms of utility, anyway. I have played Mordekaiser a lot, over my almost 2-full year experience in playing the game, I have either been totally dominant in a game, or totally destroyed.

In any case, he has always been capable of doing massive damage, that's something that remains the same. However with Riot attempting to shatter the meta, by making him a melee, duo lane opponent, with the option to still go into a solo lane and do good, they made him all the more awkward of a pick in any game on the Rift. if I am going to be in the bottom lane, I am a support, and the only supportive ability he has in his kit is his w. I suppose in some cases this can work, with able Mordekaiser able to proc his w damage by acting as a wall, so the adc can kite, and maybe get a minor heal off of the DPS they have, theoretically, dealt. Until recently, with the introduction of supportive items, Knight's Vow item 3109 , and Redemption item 3107 , I still do not see him as a viable support or ADC at all.

But as for a lot of champions, there is usually a reason they are not meta. Mordekaiser has 0 Mobility, other than a small boost of movement speed off his w, which can only be used if an ally is around. But for a champion is all about some form of DPS with major burst potential, its not enough in the meta we are in currently, due to a rise in jungler's with unmatched map presence; Vi Shaco Zac , or just any champion who can roam effectively Talon , it seems unlikely for a champion such as Mordekaiser to become anywhere near meta as it is now.

However, it is in the solo lane that Mordekaiser sees more light. In a solo lane, he can trade easily, and sustain through harass he receives by farming deceptively fast, and he has the potential to out trade almost any opponent he fights, as long as it isn't Irelia Irelia Garen Garen Vladimir or Vladimir. To be viable in the top lane, your jungle might more often or not have to camp you in order to make sure you do not fall behind, as Mordekaiser scales best into the late game, where he can actually do damage, and his abilities are on a shorter cool down, which just makes it harder to kill him thanks to his passive. If you know the ally jungler will decide to camp your lane, you should probably have summoner 14 ignite, so once Mordekaiser hits 6, the Ultimate ignite combo can almost be a guaranteed kill to any low health enemy, while giving him a free ghost in the process.

Now, before this turns into a guide on how to play Mordekaiser, let's focus on what should remain the same about Mordekaiser:

  • Strong DPS
  • Good burst potential
  • Good sustain Same Ultimate -What they should change about Mordekaiser, and then give him:
  • Convert his w to, change it to be less ally dependent, and more sustain focused.
  • Give him any form of CC, fear, slow, silence, anything! Something so he can effectively latch onto someone without the need for item 3116 Rylai's Crystal Scepter.
  • At least some utility (speed boost, preferably, that does NOT require allies to be near).

To wrap things up, Mordekaiser needs to see some more attention from Riot, as a champion, and for a game play aspect. If you think Mordekaiser Mordekaiser, the Iron Revenant should receive another rework, or a mini-rework at the core- Is Mordekaiser... an acceptable champion? For that question, you have to look at the goals Riot wanted to achieve when they reworked him in the Juggernaut update. They wanted him to be a meta-breaker, but as of now, he is just an oddball champion, and from a game play perspective, they did fail to accomplish their goals of making Mordekaiser the meta-breaker they wanted him to be. p.s. the Poll below.

He's in line for a full VGU already.
