Being TOXIC

So, a couple of days ago, I just got back from a 14-day suspension from League of Legends. For what? Being 'toxic.' Now, I'm not here to defend toxicity, and believe me, I've been there. But when I looked at my chat log, it looked like some angry 12-year old had taken a hold of me and raged through the chat. Words like %%%%, bitch, and pussy were spat venomously into All-Chat. I say I am not proud of what I did, I figured hey, I'll be toxic once every 40-50 games. Well I don't know what happened but uh, I think everyone reported me in one game, which is more reports than I would receive in an entire years worth of play. So, to my horror I had queued up for another game and before I could get in, I received a notification saying due to my recent toxic behavior, I would be put on a 14 day suspension. Well, I got to enjoy real life for 14 days, then came the day I would be allowed to play again. Oh who am I kidding life ain't real without league. I feel bad about what I did, and realized I was portraying the very thing I despised.

Since then, I have taken toxicity in League very seriously. Since then- I have gotten 2 players penalized for toxicity... and I felt livid. Now people wouldn't have to endure the pain of playing with them no more.

Now, my most recent venture in the world of anti-toxic game play I get 'flamed' by a Zed, who makes it his job to examine every mistake I made, no matter how big or small. Even before the game had really begun to take motion some of my teammates said he was toxic. He agreed. Then he and Pantheon came top to gank for me, which ended in Riven escaping unharmed, however, they were not the only ones who had ventured top. The next thing I know, they are getting into a 3v2 and I attempt to jump in and maybe save them, (I'm Garen btw) and long story short the fed Diana takes us out alongside the Riven who had just taken a turn back to help out her team. Then what does this Zed, who is 0/2 at the time, do? He explicitly points out that I should've silenced Diana, and if I had been SMART about it we could have won the fight. Which was bs to be honest, but never the less, I shrugged it off, and he commented about it again. And again. And again. I told him to stop going off and on about my mistakes and just play the game.

maybe 3 minutes later, I barely notice Riven is TP'ing bot lane, and I quickly ping bot to make sure I don't get flame. Then I try and TP bot and hopefully help out the outnumbered bot lane. Long story short, we all died tragically, and you just KNOW, Zed had to point out the obvious. Then he died in a 1v1 to the fed Diana.

"Why the fuck are they all so fed?"

Oh boy, I wonder how? I didn't comment because I understand the frustration of losing a 1v1 when you know you are already outmatched, but come on, This team ain't all Gold 5 like you pal, we be bronze and shit. Zed was 0/4, and I don't remember what I did but I somehow caught his 'calculating' analysis skills involving my play, and again brought up what I did wrong. Which was kinda of hypocritical and moronic of him since he had 0 kills and I had 4 myself, and he lost his lane to a Kled mid. Thank god we surrendered, because I didn't want to hear his shit any longer.

All-Chat: enemy team; GG me; GG toxic zed

Now, you know the enemy team was kinda having a gaff when they found out Zed was not the most happy person in the world. But he simply replied, "Pointing out mistakes isn't being toxic." "You were doing it incessantly" "Pointing out mistakes isn't being toxic." "Yeah I'm reporting you." "Go ahead lol, it won't do anything, learn to take criticism kid."

So I reported him for verbal harassment. Now, lets break it down; -He only pointed out MY MISTAKES -He did it MORE THAN ONCE -He told me to stfu because I was a counter to Riven (being Garen)

Now is being a passive aggressive asshole really healthy criticism? Well, I wouldn't say he was being passive, but he didn't outright call me a bitch either. He blamed me every time, I had the 'potential' to have won the fight if I had done this and this, literally minutes after the play was over and had come to a conclusion, and it made no sense to keep talking about it. Is this considered 'toxic behavior?' Because it sure rubbed me the wrong way. Now you may be thinking about commenting, "Hey, how come you didn't just mute him?" And to that I reply; I seemed to forget that mute was an option. But I don't want to mute everyone just to enjoy the game. I want to talk to people they can be pretty nice. I don't want to have to think 'oh this guy is mean I better shut him up now before he really gets into my head.' I'm all for standing up for yourself, but I don't see why I have to constantly fight bullies when this game is literally an escape into a world where they shouldn't exist in the first place. I like communicating with my team through chat, but when I have to specifically mute someone, just so I can have fun... that's just not OK to me.

Thank you for listening,

Sincerely,_ Zxyre_

Not quite sure where you are getting your information on bans/reports, but a lot of it is incorrect. When you got punished it wasn't because all the people in your game reported you. That's not how reports work. Its not based on how many people report you in one game, but overall and how consistent it is if legit reports are against you.

Then in the case of you report more people than they are being punished is mainly because everyone is on a different scale when it comes to being punished. Just because someone was toxic in your one game with them doesn't mean they are like that in all their games. Like i said before it needs to be consistent. So the system takes into account when people have "bad games" if this was just a one time thing, it obviously wouldn't go against them because well then basically every single person who plays this game would have been ban at one point. Now if they were consistent with their toxicity the system will see this as a continuous problem and thus your report was the final straw in which you were able to get the notification that they were punished. That's also the main problem with reporting a bunch of people. Just because you were the first to hit it the moment it shows the Score scree, doesn't mean your report was that last straw. For all you know those reports you thought didn't count was more than likely given to someone else who had reported them after you did, or in the next game after it.

The system isn't perfect and obviously will never be. It needs help from all of us and that means reporting people who are breaking the rules. Also note that what you might think is toxic/trolling doesn't mean its the same thing with Riot's definition of those terms. Loads of people consider going off-meta as a reportable/banable offense, but will almost likely never see a notification from those players they report because going off meta isnt against the rules.

All in all systems like this will obviously need time to improve and im sure Riot works around the clock to make sure the system is up to date. Riot needs to be steps ahead because there will always be people who try to cheat the system. Its always going to be there and that is why it takes all of us to help the system improve! So keep it up and dont get discourage when you dont get the notification. For all you know it does go through and they either havent been that toxic yet, it was a One-off thing, or someone else reported them and they did get punished you just werent informed.
