A concern from the last remaining Nautilus jungler

PapaGreg21··41 votes·1,648 views

His last nerfs have made it so he runs out of mana after 3 camps, even though he only uses 2 abilities for jungling.

Riptide should have had bonus damage against monsters ever since they took all of his offense out of his shield and moved it into his E ability.

I actually played him a lot previous season, with good success, despite him being unpopular, and played him this season too, before the jungle changes. After those, his clears simply weren't fast and healthy enough to be even slightly competitive.

His last Nerf killed his toplane too, apparently.

Crippling a fine champion solely through resource starving... It's not good balance.

I mean, Amumu runs out of mana after 3 camps too.

King Odin1 votes

Yes, yes he most definitely does.

TheSingularity2 votes

Except his spam spell reduces dmg taken and deals more reliable dmg on a shorter cd.

He can clear with his e reasonably. Naut needs everything to simply survive

I'm sad about it, too. I used to love Naut jungle, but I kinda felt like he just generally gets out-classed by other tanks. Think Jarvan: QE is much like Naut Q (but J4 QE has more mobility), W like Naut WE, and J4's ult is in many ways a better lockdown than Naut's R. Plus, since J4 is AD, his AAs are useful. I switched to jungling J4 from Naut way back when because Naut just felt like an underwhelming J4 after trying J4 out.

Troll for Trump2 votes

And J4 jgl isn't even that remarkable...

A lot of older jglers have been outclassed

Erh, Naut R completely outclasses J4 R in many ways.

J4 R is better against immobiles, but Naut R is better for CC (for one, it actually CC's!) and amazing against mobile targets, as it lets you follow up with Q+root.

As someone else did say Amumu runs out of mana after 3 camps as well and only uses 2 abilities for clears.

TheSingularity1 votes

Amumu clear speeds are superior, healthier and he can q over wall for more efficiency.

Nauts 2 spells are simply inferior to amumu's in every way. Amumu can clear reasonably with just his E. Naut can't do shit without we and even then his speeds are slow af and he is far from healthy when he's done.

Generally most of tank junglers are dog shit nowadays, some of the AP junglers too. I guess we must all play Lee Sin, J4 and Elise once again. Is it like 1553105135931513. time that these 3 are so popular ?

sardiniii2 votes

Interestingly, they are all champs that can influence the map very well

Thinking emoji

Also,

You dont have to play them, you just play them if you want to win

DoktorKaiser1 votes

No offence but why the hell would anyone play online games except to win them. The only time I have fun when I lose if I am playing with couple of friends, otherwise there is 0 enjoyment in losing.

sardiniii1 votes

So play what wins, thats my point

Thanks for agreeing

DoktorKaiser1 votes

But thats not fair, I love Volibear, Nautilus, Skarner, Amumu, Sejuani, Hecarim, Fiddle, Morde, Warwick etc. and while some of these champs are/were strong and maybe even the best at one time, most of the times its Lee, Elise, j4, Kha and Rengo. Its not that fair to force me to play these champs, especially Lee who I hate with a burning passion ever since his release and I swore not to ever play him. I understand that there should be a cycle and there is a cycle at almost every position, but in jungle its always these champs, especially Lee and its been like that for 7 long years. I am tired honestly :(

sardiniii2 votes

Yeah, that sucks.

I have felt the same thing sometimes, I usually just take a break when it happens Play another game That sort of thing

Best of luck

Ot they could revert the manacost nerfs and/or buff his W damage a bit in later ranks, so you can max it for jungle clears. He's the second lowest winrate toplaner with a poor pickrate right now (https://euw.op.gg/champion/statistics), he certainly can use some buffs in general.

That said, mana is still an overall big issue in jungle balance. If you look at the meta junglers, they either are manaless or can clear without useing much mana.

Yeah, soraka, janna and sona should have better jungle clears too.

Anags1 votes

If you are going to call him a support then he needs even more buffs. He's basically the worst support in the game behind only fizz.

You're comment is just stupid.

sardiniii1 votes

Not really, he has crowd control on every ability and he can build well with major support items

TimX24968B1 votes

at least braum jg can clear better than rengar.

sardiniii1 votes

Or just play him top

This is like saying "A concern from the last full tank ekko player" Its a game play style that they font want naut to fulfill

Troll for Trump3 votes

Uh no, Naut jg was his original role. People abused him top. That's like saying Riot doesn't want Ekko mid during the time period when Tank EKko was a thing. They nerfed Tank Ekko, also nerfing ekko mid; that doesn't mean they don't want ekko mid to be a thing, they just want to get rid of tank ekko.

sardiniii1 votes

Thats what im saying. Simular to how riot want ekko to be a midlaner and not a toplaner, they also dont want naut to be a jungler

If you really love playing him , just play him top, it will proably be just as fun

Troll for Trump1 votes

But they want him to be jgl..

sardiniii1 votes

Then why is it near impossible

(Judging based off your post not experience)

Troll for Trump1 votes

Top lane naut is viable because, in addition to cc, he has sufficient base damages and waveclear.

Obviously, if you nerf his base damages and waveclear, he can lane as well, but it will hurt his jungle even more, since jungle Naut needs those AoEs and base damages.

Note that almost all of his abilities are some form of AoE as well, so the nerfs are even worse for jungle naut with the mini monsters in the jungle.

Raptors, for instance. A 10 damage nerf would technically nerf 70 damage from the raptor camp, 10 from each raptor. While in -lane you have at least minions to deal dmg to other minions, in the jungle, you have to do all the damage, so he has to finish the mini-raptors off one-by-one (or burn W, and, as mentioned in the post, he has mana issues, so that sucks) more often.

Basically, you cannot nerf top naut without nerfing jungle naut. It is not as clear cut as Top lane Tank ekko vs AP ekko. It's closer to shoving Lulu from solo lane to support, but still slightly different.

How could you nerf top naut without gimping jgl naut? There isn't any way to do it.

Tobias Brackner1 votes

I assume you are opening Blue?

Also Nautilus Jung is best Nautilus

SpecterVonBaren1 votes

Just give him back his W damage.

COBRA C0MM4NDER1 votes

Try attack speed marks and MP5seals.

I have no mana problems and can clear my Red, Blue, wolves and 90% of the raptors before I'm dangerously low and desperately need to recall.

Then again I'm B4...so what the fk do I know about Naut jg?

(...and that's without a leash, just sayin')

But you're not the only one who loves Naut jg =D (although my favorite is lucian jg....ulting dragons never felt soo good.)

TheSingularity1 votes

I'd love for my bae to return to the jungle.

He's just so weak, takes so long to clear and is more feast or famine than xin zhao. The jungle changes destroyed him. Nerfs and frozen heart stat decreases destroyed him. All riot seems to do is destroy him.

The fact that braum can jungle better is stupid. I WANT MY MAIN IN MY MAIN POSITION BACK!

^ This guy gets it.

tis so disheartening.

Seasons 4 and 5 were legendary. No one played naut on OCE, not to mention him in the jungle. But it was so satisfying looking at the end game screen, at my DA ratio and the carries who have sick KD ratios, being able to go "yeah, that was me". Supporting from the jungle was the best, now regardless of who you play (even ivern) you're directly carrying, simply because your dmg is so far ahead.

Trinket changes (no more pink trinket), a jungle item inferior to spirit of the ancient golem, mobility boot cost nerfs, lack of early game homeguard, jungle camp damage buffs and 4 drakes that don't help tanks at all. These imo, are the biggest non-direct-nerf factors that have hit naut hard.

Best moment was in season 4: Kha walks over my ward (in bush on oppo side of red near drag pit) as I finish red, so now both junglers are heading bot on different routes. I'm approaching krug bush as a shen starts ulting their kha. Kha leaps into what has become a 4v2 dive consisting of those 2+morg/twitch. We had a braum and kog bot. Braum immediately ults but shen dash+taunts kog. I flash wall, hook shen off kog. Braum face tanks twitch/morg who then gets knocked into the air my depth charge along with kha/shen. In that time frame shen/kha were snared, slowed and marked with braums passive.

All the while kog is raining hell down upon them resulting in a 3 for 0 trade our way. Morg was the only one to escape.

That in game moment, is what got me truly hooked on naut. It was glorious to say the least.

What was your best moment ever? What got you hooked? heh Curios as the only naut players I've seen in 3 years are FOTM players
