Can we NOT do this to supports like myself, please?

The line I want to highlight here is line 4. Every damn adc does this when they want a tank supp.

"well you're not going ...."

Uh, yes I am. Now stop, please.

If I don't have a tank supp, I don't have a tank supp.

I swear supports sound more like SJWs every day. No not every ADC does this to you. As a Jungle/Sup player I havr had it happen maybe once in a season since S2. The one or two ADCs who do demand you play something else are called jerks, and they exist in every single role, including Support itself.

Once I was going to play Bard top while my brother was going to play Tristana ADC. I jokingly sent him a trade request. He accepted it at the last second. So I load into the game as Tristana with Windspeaker's Blessing and all that and he has Bard with ADC runes/masteries. So you know what we did?

He went ADC Bard and I went Support Tristana Top (I built a bunch of actives and Frozen Mallet and spent the game flashing into the enemy team to ult their adc/mid into my team and then jumping out). We won. It was great.

yes it is

Well it depends on what you consider easy.

IMO it's harder to play Thresh with 5 actives in a teamfight than a Vayne

i play bard

Support players are legit the most entitled player base in the game. Playing the easiest role in the game,

Easiest role to get into? Yes. Easiest role to master? Hell no.

having super decent items

Yea, a big total of 3 items:

2 items (item 3107 and item 3190) that basically broke the support role and make the role even more boring than before because now this is basically a race of who's getting the op items first (except if there's an ap ''support'' on the team). People asked many times Riot to do something about it but they do jack shit

And item 3504 who is only build on enchanters on certain team comp or if your adc is fed.

still want buffs

Rework on certain supports that need help, not buffs. You saw what happened with Sona.

bitch about everything and when there's a post about champs like Lulu they downvote you so hard.

Try to not to put everyone in the same basket, would you? That would like seeing that all Riven are toxic and all Yasuo feed in every single game.

It's obvious that Lulu needs a nerf somewhere, or an indirect nerf maybe.

I don't disagree with you and usually really like your posts. I do find it a bit odd you're calling him out on taking a situation that happens sometimes and generalizing it but in the very same post you say supports sound more like SJWs every day. Aren't you doing the same thing by saying this? You can't say supports are sounding more like that when it's only some of them right?

Hrm. On the one hand, I hear your fustration...On the other hand, I'm also of the opinion that if you can, I DO recommend getting and learning to play a few tank supports. If for no other reason so that if your team wants to go DPS and nobody wants to go tank, you'll be able to pick up the slack.

Dryditch8 votes

sigh

I get it. You don't really want to play support. You want to sit back and press one button every so often to give your adc or yourself a shield. Hell, enchanters are fun. They bring a lot to the team.

The fact is, when your team doesn't have tanks, you lose. It doesn't matter how good you are at landing your CC. Cooldowns mean you can't peel forever, and you won't have a frontline.

Pick up Alistair. Pick up Sion and punt minions. Pick up Thresh and learn to land hooks. Your support pool will thank you.

The support role is not for Tanks. Top lane and jungle is.

PeepingPeafowl48 votes

Supports don't even have the income or build paths to make up for a lack of a real tank anyways. It's locket, redemption on like every support that isn't an AP carry.

Gotta love the dude your replying to acting all condescending when he has no idea what hes talking about.

Chembaron Yamada5 votes

I play Tahm Kench when I am support and we are lacking a tank. Often enough it turns out that I am more effective than the enemy "real tank".

I think a support is absolutely capable of filling the tank niche for the team.

PeepingPeafowl14 votes

Tahm and Leona are a bit of an edge case because a lot of the tanking power they have comes from levelups and not so much items.

I don't see how Tahm out does a real tank in terms of engage but he has good peel so I could see it working if the enemy starts the fight and you don't.

Kilanost1 votes

If you are tanking better as support the enemy team is either super behind or not itemizing well.

Lauchmelder3 votes

While yes, that's true, I also have to agree with Dryditch.

If the team is lacking a tank you should play a (at least pseudo) tank support. You're lacking the money to be the most effective meatshield, but at least you have a bit of tankiness to soak up a skillshot or 2.

PeepingPeafowl16 votes

If your team has no front line you should dodge, unless the enemy team is also poorly composed.

A tank support is not going to stand up against a real tank.

Lauchmelder5 votes

Never said it would.

But a squishy team with a pseudo tank support (the thing we call "tank support") has a higher chance at winning than the full squishy comp.

I mean, squishy comps aren't unviable. If you go for the splitpushing you can have a team made of glasscannons.

PeepingPeafowl3 votes

Fair enough.

I guess I would just prefer to dodge rather than play out a game like that. Having to be two roles at once because your team was not interested in good comp does not sound like a good time to me.

Dryditch2 votes

What kind of crack are you on?

Do you even realize the meta in soloqueue right now?

Top lane is home to bruisers and juggernauts. Not many tanks can survive up there. In LCS, tanks are top laners because the teams understand that they need tanks. In soloqueue, vayne, pantheon, fiora, and kennen are top laners because players have no fucking idea what teamwork is and they just want to carry.

Jungle has been inhospitable for most tanks for a long time. The only "tanks" above 50% winrate in the JG right now at plat+ are WW, Nunu, and Jarvan.

Tank items cost significantly less than do damage items. They can be purchased and utilized effectively on the gold budget from a support as long as you don't feed all game.

You won't be a god tier tank that can carry the game, but you'll provide a semblance of frontline that enables your 0/12 top lane yasuo to pick up a kill or three and stop being useless. Maybe you'll even stay alive long enough to get a second round of abilities off and set your team up for more success in the teamfight.

Likelihood is you won't survive. Likelihood is a tank won't do much beyond initiate, peel, or disengage. Doesn't change the fact that you can do more for your squishy team of Yasuo, Yi, Syndra, and Vayne as Alistair than you would as Soraka or Janna or Sona. They have damage. They don't need more, and they probably don't need a healbot when they don't have anything close to an actually disruptive frontline.

chipndip11 votes

And outside of Alistar, who gets shat on pretty hard in lane atm, who's going to be a disruptive front line AND peel for the adc at the same time when everyone else is a carry?

Dryditch3 votes

Taric and Thresh both do a pretty decent job.

Braum and Sion can also be effective peel if your team keeps up.

Admittedly it's not an optimal situation, but you're providing more value than your team would get from a healbot if you can slow, stun, or otherwise CC the enemies.

chipndip17 votes

Taric: Shat on harder than Alistar in lane. Also isn't a front liner.

Braum: He's not front lining and peeling at the same time.

Sion: He's not good for peel, and without gold, he's really just an engage bot before getting bursted. He's way better in lane than all these other guys, though.

Thresh: Fallen so far from grace...

If I just play what I'm gonna play, and build Locket/Redemption, we can just be tanky by proxy and we get heals. If I try to be a front liner for a team full of carries, we'll have no peel, I'll die anyway, and we'll have way less healing on the team. I'd rather not bother.

Glory ln Death2 votes

Sion support is always the optimal situation.

Except early game against a strong poke lane. But he comes back strong once he gets his ult.

Troll for Trump7 votes

Too bad tank jglers are all horrible right now. Top lane tanks are just extremely situational picks for laning matchups

Tanks are just too weak early.

wahhh, someone has a different taste in the supports they play and they're not "real supports", this is why I have a 47% winrate in bronze 5

Dryditch2 votes

My most played champion this season is Nami by a large margin. While you ran off to check my winrate and rank, you might as well have also looked at the champions I play.

None of this invalidates my point. It's better to have at least a tanky support than it is to have yet another squishy target.

Clementine4 votes

You average 8 deaths a game with Nami.

Dryditch5 votes

And I win 58% of those games.

I also average 18 assists a game, and except in extreme stomps, am usually 10 assists over my deaths.

What does my score in game have to do with my ability to analyze and assess a situation outside of game?

Clementine1 votes

You feed every game, on every champion, in bronze 5. You have no knowledge of the game, sorry

Dryditch4 votes

I have plenty of games where I play like ass. That's why I'm Bronze.

I also have plenty of games where I do well in lane, have other lanes that feed, and then teamfights equalize our scores, and it turns into a series of slugfests where I'll die to protect someone who's doing better than I am.

Tell me when the last time you actually played in Bronze was. I don't mean placements where you get matched with random idiots. I mean actually played in Bronze, where you end up getting your ADC to 8/1 bot lane, but it doesn't matter because top's died 5 times and now there's a 5/0 Tryndamere or Yasuo or Renekton just steamrolling through your team that doesn't understand how to safely push waves.

Sure, as a support, you could run away, or stand at a safe distance and heal. Then you're left alone at base or tower or wherever with four members of the enemy team running at you with a minion wave.

OK, give up the tower. Now it's your inhib tower they're knocking down. Now it's your nexus... because your performance in any given role does not make up for feeders in other roles.

Maybe it's like the Anivia game I had yesterday, where I was 5/2 at 20 minutes. Top lane and Jungle produced an 8/1 Jax at that same time, and I don't even know what was going on in bot lane. Those teamfights, try as you might to win them, don't actually work out.

You want to criticize me for "feeding" on every champion? Play a couple of games down here. See how they actually work. Anyone who isn't dying more than 5 times in a game on average is either a smurf or a booster.

???

I haven't died more than 5 times on Nami in my last fifteen games as her, and I'm awful at playing Nami. I don't see why it's so hard to not die as her.

Dryditch4 votes

You're right. It's not hard not to die on Nami. If I wanted to save my KDA, I'd just sit in the back of every teamfight and toss out a few heals until I got low, then run away.

Just because you die fewer than 5 times on her doesn't mean your team does. Blame that on your teammates being ass? Great. You shouldn't be Bronze 3 with over 150 games on that account. Welcome to higher ELO.

Oh, wait. You, as a healer and a support, are dying three times in a game where everyone else has +5 deaths and your ADC has 7? What were you doing that let your team die that much? Were they all just dumbasses, pushing lanes with no vision? Was your ADC off by himself being an idiot the entire game?

Maybe I'm the idiot for trying to move in and heal teammates when I'm playing a support with a heal, some CC, and a speed boost to get my allies out of trouble. Maybe I should just let them all die, and sit back while the enemy takes the base.

Supreme Senpai692 votes

Real talk, one support main to another, let your team die unless it's a teamfight. Don't just trade one for one. Like, if your jungler gets caught out, don't run in and ult and die to let him get away. I've stopped doing this and have drastically improved. Now I just need to stop dying to protect my wards.

7/10 times they die right after anyway, because they were bad enough to be caught out to begin with. They'll make the same mistake twice. And when people have bad KDAs they tend to play a bit safer. Now, feel free to die to save two or more people, cuz then it's just a matter of gold; give the enemy team 300 gold or 600? But the support is more valuable than just one ally, otherwise people wouldn't take supports and would instead take another ally in that position!

Also, something else I've been practicing is just give up the tower! If you're alone or if they can dive or if you can't protect it just get out of dodge because then you lose a tower AND feed them a kill. It goes against the support player's mindset to not protect towers, wards, or teammates but knowing when to let shit die and when to save shit is probably the most important part. GL!

Dryditch2 votes

Thanks, man. :)

I'll start putting that stuff into practice. I already know to just let towers go, but the teamfight thing screws me.

Uh, yes I am. Now stop, please.

If I don't have a tank supp, I don't have a tank supp.

The truth is going to hurt, But being honest is what matters. I use to play tank supports, but I stopped because of only one reason. No one following through. You could be a top tank support, but when you jump on the first mistake the enemy player does, and your adc does not follow through then all you're going to get over and over again in chat is WTF are you doing? Or Why? Now you can play passive as a tank sure, but if you dive in and no teammate wants to follow through then your tank support is useless. The whole point of picking tank is to tank. Tanks take the hits so your teammates can hit them from the back line. That is how a tank is supposed to work. Tanks are 100% teamwork. If your team chooses not to work then your tanks will keep dieing, and dieing, and dieing, and dieing. Now non tank champs have better spells to get themselves out of trouble. or to help get the enemy player down faster than tanks can. Until players can react to tanks going in or back up the tanks when they go in for a poke I would not suggest playing tanks. Truth hurts, but that's the biggest reason why many don't like to play tanks.
