Why is ignite so damn powerful?

Cenobite Azaziel··2 votes·660 views

Ignite: A) Ignore mr/armor since it is true damage. B) Hard counter summoners heal, since A) Will give grievous wounds, and B) It damage naturally outescales it. C) Hard counters heavy sustain champions, such as mundo, WW, swain because of the grievous wounds. D) Barrier will only get one tick of its duration. E) Reveal invisible enemies. F) Interrupts recall. Why so powerful?

A) It is easily stopped by any type of shield. The true damage is to make it reliable, like every other Summoner Spell. B) Because summoner 7 is so popular, its a natural counter. Just like how summoner 21 counters summoner 14 (theoretically). C) Again, its a reliable method of countering those champs. summoner 14 makes up for extreme the lack of grievous wound items, but is on such a long cd it can't replace them 100%. D) summoner 21 should stop two ticks, which is often enough to survive. However, I do think summoner 21 duration should be buffed, to make it more effective. E) summoner 14 doesn't even reveal stealth, only enemies in the fog of war or a bush. This is just one more perk: a bit arbitrary, but hardly gamebreaking. F) Every DoT interrupts recall, this just happens to be the only DoT Summoner Spell.

The problem is barrier has no utility that makes it a better choice over heal in hardly any circumstance, especially when your opponents also carry exhaust or something (which isn't stopped by the shield). But heal doesn't really stop that either I guess, but another exhaust does :)

Poor summoner 21 is really neglected and under powered since the summoner 7 changes.

combine summoner 1 + summoner 21 = Worthless abilities become a great one :)

RIP Malzahar But on a long summoner-spell-length cd, i think it'd be good.

I don't think cleanse removes malzahar's ulti now anyway. Shouldn't be too strong against him, but if it reduced the strength of enemy summoner spell defects even by a bit with a small enough shield to wall some damage, it could be a cool ability to have around with a lot of utility.

Of course since it's single target summoner 7 still has a lot of use in a duo lane, whereas the combo of cleanse barrier is more a single lane kind of thing i would imagine (unless you are wanting to play a safe bot lane I guess with both heal and barriercleanse?)

idk, the tooltip says 'all disables' but i haven't seen it ingame so i can't be sure. But summoner 7 would still have that burst of speed over barriercleanse so it could still be used in some solo lanes. Or if people prefer the health over a shield. Heal AND Barriercleanse would be really tough to kill, but then you've spent BOTH s.s. slots.

True story, plus taking heal an barriercleanse is only giving you a small buffer window before barriercleanse wears off and the heal from heal gets shredded. Flash might be a better choice for mobility still especially if you get caught in a situation that's not so good.

No Cleanse still does not work on Malzahar or Warwick. Only QSS or specific abilities.

Only specific champion abilities and QSS can remove Malza's ult.

Ignore mr/armor since it is true damage.

Pitiful amount of damage

Hard counters heavy sustain champions, such as mundo, WW, swain because of the grievous wounds.

Yeah, every 5 fucking minutes

Interrupts recall.

Are you fucking stupid?

Reveal invisible enemies.

No. It. Doesn't

Extreme Troller2 votes

well i think now smite is more op than ignite.

BerserkGoldfish1 votes

heal counters it though

literally heal turns it off so does cleanse so does qss

Ignite out-damages heal at all levels (because of the healing reduction) and still does ~ 25-240 true damage depending on level. It's just that that tiny amount of damage is usually not enough to make an impact.

Genuwhine1 votes

take heal laugh? only used because players believe they can out beat the other/ for lane pressure otherwise summoner 12 summoner 7 summoner 3 technically would all be better.

insaiyanbacca1 votes

last i checked it doesnt reveal invis and any form of damage can interrupt recall js

Akeydel1 votes

It doesn't reveal stealth, but it does REVEAL as in, if they run into a bush or something. Small and usually unnoticed power there.

insaiyanbacca1 votes

well yeah red smite does that to and red smite can give a DoT so its not like ignite is the only one that does that

Well to be fair, I had a problem with grievous wounds until I realized how ridiculous life steal and regen can be let unchecked. I do think it's powerful (and that's partly due to true damage), but still It's balanced enough to be non-toxic. If it were too weak, then you would just have another case of cleanse where it's hardly ever used :/

A) Ignore mr/armor since it is true damage.

You'd rather it be magic damage and do nothing late game because it doesn't scale?

B) Hard counter summoners heal, since A) Will give grievous wounds, and B) It damage naturally outescales it.

Not really a hard counter, but does weaken it. Heal will still save you from dying to Ignite if they can't follow up. Damage also always outscales defense. Game is meant to work this way. And for a good reason.

C) Hard counters heavy sustain champions, such as mundo, WW, swain because of the grievous wounds.

Get me better options and I'd have no problem with it not having GW.

D) Barrier will only get one tick of its duration.

Time your Barrier for the other damage you're taking that was meant to kill you.

E) Reveal invisible enemies. F) Interrupts recall.

On a scale of 1 to 10 how bored were you when you wrote this?
