Who did Manaflow Band Actually help?

Azadethe··16 votes·6,871 views

I've been playing around with the new Manaflow band since it game out, and Here's what I'm noticing:

  1. It didn't affect Mages much at all. The average Mana recovered has been about the same.

  2. Low Mana Cost spammers like Ezreal Can now effectively go Mana-Item-less. No. I'm not kidding. Ezreal's strongest kit atm starts him on item 3147 , because Manaflow band heals his Mana more than he consumes. (Same reason item 1039 was reworked and Jungle Ezreal caused a Q nerf in post Season 7)

  3. Tank/Stackers like Nasus Ornn Sion Veigar Never have to recall anymore. They can indefinitely have mana now, which means they can just push objectives and sustain the entire game (I do it on Ornn myself, because Ornn has the most imbalanced Mana Costs vs Mana Gain in the game. The new Manaflow Band fixes all this problems, and never has to recall. Can fast pace to level 13 without ever visiting a fountain, as long as I don't die; I have a 67% Ornn win rate, even in this hyper nerfed version of him, and a lot has to do with the Manaflow Band change).

All the change did was create the same problems that the old Meditation did: It made Adcs and Tanks's use of Mana behave like Mages.

You know what's ironic about that? To compensate for adcs and tanks not building mana regen items, Riot gave most of them over double the BASE mana regen of mages. This means...... while mages have to struggle for mana or buy the right items/hold the right runes, Tanks/Adcs generally get more mana for doing less.

The TLDR: It's enabling champs which already have other strengths to completely abandon their weaknesses and completely become well rounded with no weakness to exploit.

The big difference is you have to stack it so the laning phase sucks unless you're manaless

It's really not. Try it on Ornn. It times with his W perfectly, which almost never misses. 10 W's = full stacks. Also times well with Nasus's E cooldown, which is also hard to miss.

The only champs that have trouble stacking it are actually supports, and that's only because they have to recall to upgrade item 3096 or item 3311 Mid can occasionally have a problem stacking because it's 2 long range mages who have an inability to poke each other regularly, but even there it's not hard, and there we're talking pretty much about mages.

The max Mana gain well makes up for any loss of early game mana refunds.

Some champs can stack it easily and safely but others either have to land skillshots or take risky trades. It's really not that great on a lot of champs. It also depends on the matchup. My biggest issue is it makes bad matchups worse since it's harder to stack and you have to deal with no mana regen until you do stack it.

Like ok I'm happy for Ornn players but there are issues with the rune.

You're missing the point of the thread.

The Champs you are complaining about it "being hard to stack" on are generally mages, who are the ones who always took the rune.

Tanks and Adcs have no trouble at all stacking it, because tanks get in and dirty in their lanes and have pretty safe abilities to use it, and adcs have long range and regular use of it.

Mages on the other hand have to expend mana more frequently to farm, which means it struggles more on them.

Not really, when playing botlane Ziggs I usually take it along with the biscuits (sustain and more mana), have never really oomed either. I stack those items into a Tear, RoA, and finish the staff.

It actually helps with wave clearing over time, as the 1% mana per 5 seconds doesn't sound like a lot, but it adds up (especially when you're stacking so much mana to begin with).

Early the mana band and biscuits give me an extra 410 mana in lane, on some champions almost doubling my mana pool. That's not including the usefulness of the biscuits (healing while in lane), or the band's bonus mana regeneration (for long term).

I like the new one better

I use it for swain plays. item 3693

You're missing the point. It's helping Adc's and tanks and bruisers more than it's helping mages.

Gotcha. I think it's better that way. I used to played adc for the least because of the mana shortage in the past.

It's not. Mana throttling was what made adc's and tanks manageable. Now Ezreal and Nasus are no fail champions.

There's a reason Ezreal is literally up to a 29.9% pick rate (literally in amost 1/3 of games).

Darius That always has mana can produce 1v5's 3 times as often. It's him running out of mana that makes him manageable once he's on 5 bleed stacks or high level.

29.9%?

He's at like 45% and has been for multiple patches now.

Different pages are giving different stats:

https://lolalytics.com/ranked/worldwide/platinum/plus/champion/Ezreal/ Just under 30% for the last few weeks, spiked to almost 37 today

https://www.leagueofgraphs.com/champions/stats/ezreal down to 27.5%

http://champion.gg/champion/Ezreal/ADC? 13.51%.

I'm kind of wondering how different their metrics can be to be this volatile in their state gatherings.... I know champion.gg generally lags, but the others should be closer together..... and I'm betting Champion.GG isn't tracking non ADC Ez, while other sites might be taking into account ban rate into their metrics.....

What annoys me is.... I rarely ever Ban Ez, but if he's getting this much play, there's got to be a reason. I personally don't mind him unless I'm mid and he's Mid, and has Dark Harvest, but he has faster wave clear which gives him free shots and angles. Any other context, I enjoy outpositioning him, and making his E escapes useless.

I use it onJhin and Xerath

Mostly because they both need to use their abilities to farm and poke. And its stops me from buying something likeitem 3508 or item 3003 Even then the only one you could arguably take is Ultimate hat because the other option is a magic damage shield. Which you could argue should be in the resolve tree along with a physical damage one.

Azadethe1 votes

You're missing the point. Sort of. Jhin is another example of where it's kind of hurt the game, but Xerath is a mage..... where it was supposed to help.

Those are all getting the same mana recovery as they used to. I main them. Average about 3700 -4000 mana recovery on both versions of manaflow band a game.
