@ Meddler. Can we get some clarification on why Warlords is changing again?

It was stated that Warlord's Blood Lust was in a good place and that the healing might need smoothed out. However I can not help but feel that by changing it to scale off total AD that it just pigeon holes the Keystone into being a Carry Only pick. Why change it so soon after it's release? Late game healing is already ludicrous on any carry, who's ranged or has high mobility, and builds a Blood Thirster or BotRK and I am sure it's not Warlords that makes or breaks that.

I understand it's former iteration was somewhat oppressive early game but the current version has a lot of versatility on other classes like juggernauts and fighters who don't build tons of AD or potentially crit. It was nice to have an option in the ferocity tree that didn't require so many caveats to use.

I am also wondering if this is being done to encourage less lethality ADC/Assassin builds by giving them a reason to build Crit? Still I feel like this makes the keystone relevant to only a small group of champions while leaving others less viable or attractive options.

Thanks for reading!

This change is not going to hurt it for anyone who currently uses it, going from lifesteal % to total AD % is going to be a straight up buff for everyone that uses the mastery.

What is changing is that the healing from this mastery is no longer going to be affected by the opponent's armor/other damage reduction. You are always going to be healing as if your strike was hitting a 0 armor target. The added verbage in the mastery mentioning critical strikes is there to show that the mastery will be giving bonus healing on critical strikes just like lifesteal does already (since you do more damage).

So, this is a complete buff to the mastery that was likely given because Riot found it underperforming.

Edit: It occurs to me that this might be a nerf to anyone who uses this mastery along with on-hit effect abilities, like Nasus using Siphoning Strike, as Nasus' total AD is quite possibly less than how much he would be healing even if the opponent had armor when the strike does that much bonus damage. Realistically I can't think of any champions that fall in this category that would actually use this mastery though, and even the ones that do will likely see little change as the lifesteal from bonus damage is being offset by the bonus from ignoring armor/dr.

Any auto-attacking On-hit champions AatroxXinZhaoJaxMasterYiShyvanaKindred etc. could use the current Warlord's Bloodlust (7.5). For my own main, Xin Zhao has a 50.34% win rate with it in patch 7.5, meaning it is a decent, viable alternative to Fervor of Battle right now if I want more sustain.

With the new change in 7.6, all those champions are left shit out of luck and are stuck with Fervor again. It only scales to a maximum of 40% AD in the late game. For people who build a ton of AD items like AD Casters and Marksmen, the healing is still viable, but for the champions I mentioned who often only build one mediocre AD item like Blade of the Ruined King, the healing is going to be completely gutted. They'd only get around 60 hp healing per energized attack at level 18. That's down right stupid.

If you are looking down on 60hp per energized attack, you might want to math out how much hp you are actually getting against decently armored targets currently with the live version of Warlord's Bloodlust.

50% of 150 (I'm using 150 because you were) is 75, so with only 25 armor it is already down to 60 healing. Any armor point above that makes it worse than it will be after the 40% total AD change.

I honestly think you are overestimating how much healing this mastery is currently giving you, its nice sustain certainly but if you are looking down of 60 hp from 150 AD then you might want to lower your expectations.

You forgot that Lifesteal applies to BoRK Passive and Sheen Passive. Bork adds 100 on-hit damage when you attack just a 1250 hp target. The Sheen Passive does double the Champion's base AD as on-hit damage. Even if the target had a decent amount of armor, current Warlords heals a lot more than just 60 hp. Lifesteal also applies to on-hit physical damage from the champions, like Xin Zhao's 75 on-hit damage from his Q, for example.

I don't think I'm overestimating the mastery, I think you're the one underestimating how much more these champions really lifesteal off of on-hit damage rather than AD.

As if Aatrox's 'rework' didn't already?

Aatrox's rework did what Riot said they wouldn't do for katarina... they changed up his itemization so he's moreuseful building like a bruiser now with item 3153 item 3071 item 3006 item 3065 item 3068 item 3742 instead of his old melee carry buildpath.

I didn't say that his rework didn't hit him hard already either...

But if they make the next patch changes then he's going to be back to being the worst champ in league right now...

I assume you don't want that
