In defense of Riot, regarding Cassiopia

This is a message from my mind to the rest of the general public regarding the communication "problem" that people see regarding Cassiopia's update. In short, it's a defense for Riot and a reassurance to all you Cass players out here that you shouldn't be upset necessarily, or worried that there may not be any red posts on the boards.

Riot IS listening, first, hence the PBE changes to Cass so far. Yes, I know they aren't much right now. That's not the point. There are changes happening, and they will continue to happen (maybe quickly, maybe slowly) until they feel she's balanced. Remember there hasn't been but maybe one month since her rework. Yes, I understand, she's nowhere near the champion she used to be, but to be fair, you can't expect immediate changes with an entire rework like you can with a small tweak. These changes do take time.

Second comes from what we who study psychology and philosophy call "conversation theory." There are many articles of basic conversation theory online, but one of the most basic points in this study is the fact that when somebody is listening, they are not talking; likewise, when they are talking, they are giving input, which means they are either a) defending their position, b) asking for more information, c) simply making a definite statement about something already concrete, or d) making a conjecture about something that is not concrete.

Clearly, there is no need for Riot to make conjectures, because they are the ones theory-crafting the champion. Furthermore, they don't particularly need more information or more questions because we, the players, are providing loads of very useful feedback regarding her kit. There is no need to make definite statements either, because we have full knowledge of the statistics, patch history, scaling, and every detail about that champion. This leaves Riot to one option, A. And A is absent.

I know you see Riot's lack of response as a bad thing, but think of it as a good thing. They are not defending Cassiopia's current state. They are not saying she's finished and this is her new playstyle, per se. And while, yes, a "we are listening" would be much appreciated, they are implying they are listening by not replying. It's just like when you are being tutored in math homework; when the student (Riot) is learning the material (our feedback) from the teacher (the community), the student doesn't need to say a word in order to learn the concept unless the student has a specific question. However, so far, we are covering all the bases with regards to the questions. And just because the student learns doesn't mean he completes his homework problems correctly the first time. Or the second time. Or even the third time. But every time, he learns more and begins to understand until his understanding it perfectly.

I realize it's frustrating when you WANT a reply, any reply, regarding Cass and her update. We ALL want her to be a viable pick and watch her change until she's balanced. However, everybody must, must understand that a lack of a reply does not mean that you are being ignored, but the opposite; they are listening.

Going weeks without a reply, a WEAK, REALLY REALLY WEAK, buff on PBE. That addresses and fixes 0 concerns that the players have had doesn't tell me they are listening to us at all. They aren't fixing her E. They didn't listen to us before she was released when we said it was a bad rework. They even said they needed better communication. And what do they do, clam up. Again. And release that "buff" to a champ that went from a 49% win rate and low pick rate to a champ that has a 43% win rate, and an even lower pick rate than before. You may be trying to defend this, for whatever reason you feel, but they don't care about us, obviously. Azir got hotfixed, but Cass can't even get her E bug fixed a month later. They aren't listening. The proof is in the work.

You don't seem to understand that they want more data before making changes to the champion. It has been one month. Give it time. Yes, the buff is small, and yes, it will probably be better adjusted later. Small steps. There is no comparison between this and Azir because Azir literally broke the game. If that wasn't addressed immediately, there would have been huge problems. Again, you're stating that they don't care simply because we personally haven't seen any huge changes recently. You cannot make that assumption. It is a logical fallacy.

Sure, they may need better communication. However, it is in the literal sense a logical fallacy to assume that since they aren't replying they are not listening.

See Xerath for a point of comparison. Everybody hated his rework for months after it was released, but after slow, gradual tweaks, he is now considered one of the strongest mid lane mages at higher levels of play despite having a completely different playstyle than the previous Xerath. Again, I'm not at all saying that I'm in favour of the new Cass changes, but we simply cannot make assumptions about what Riot is or is not doing based on nothing but a lack of board posts.

I can make that assumption since they haven't fixed the ONE FREAKING BUG, that was their excuse to do the WHOLE REWORK. And refuse to fix the bug a whole freaking month later. I think I can make the assumption they don't care. I don't want soon, this rework was absolutely TERRIBLE. At least Xerath could win games after his rework. She can hardly do that, if the rest of the team has to carry you to do it. No, Riot doesn't get the benefit of the doubt on this one. This rework was terrible. The communication is terrible. They destroyed a champion and you want to give them the "benefit of the doubt". No, Not this time, we always give them that right, not this time. One month has been far too long, and they have plenty of data about how bad she is. That buff on PBE is a joke.

Nonono, you're misunderstanding me. I'm not giving them the benefit of the doubt with the rework. I don't like it either. Yes, the buff is minimal. Yes, they can say something like "we're listening to you guys." But the bright side is, they are not defending her rework like they did with Xerath. Yes, they're not talking saying "we understand and are currently making changes," but at least they're not saying "Actually, we think her current state is okay."

I know they wont do this but they should really just roll back her rework entirely. I used to love playing cass now she is garbage. I really do not see why of all characters she needed a rework. Cass does not feel like Cass anymore there are many more champs they needed reworks above cass.
