A friend of mine is in silver, and he's been playing for three and a half years. I've been playing for one and a half, and I'm near plat. Experience is relative, subjective, and not accurately measured in time or rank.

Experience =/= rank

Experience is how much time and effort you put into something. Someone could never play ranked, and they would still have practical knowledge about the game. A rank is simply being able to play the game and win, not necessarily understanding the game and its concepts. I know someone who is plat 1, who has told me that he is only platinum because he knows how to play Graves.

I'll say it again, rank =/= experience

Misrepresent my argument all you want, you still can't argue.

There is a difference between understanding a concept and the practical application of it. Someone could have all the knowledge they need to win the game, but if they do not have the ability to apply it, they will not win. Another person could have less knowledge of the concept, but still be able to put it into application better than the previous person. Thus, they are able to climb higher on the ladder, because the application matters more than the knowledge.

The balance team could be silver or gold, but they would still understand more than you or I. That's why they're on the balance team.

Experience Directly relates to knowledge not the other way. Thats the point im making.

How do i know that bronzie #524,203 placed in bronze 4 is actually knowledgeable about the game?? What does he have to show for his absolute knowledge? Theres nothing showing that he is actually talking about what he knows its just coming out of his ass because he doesn't have a degree of experience to show for it.

Thats why people go to school, thats why people work to get promoted, thats why people play league to rank up.

Experience = knowledge

Knowledge =/= experience

Rank =/= knowledge or experience. It's a reflection of your skill level, not your knowledge level. That's not saying knowledge isn't useful, but it's not required to be skilled.

I think a players overall ability is divided down into 2 basic categories (which is further divided into various subcategories but we won't go that far). A players mechanical skill and a players game knowledge. Mechanical skill being the physical portion, such reflexes and physical precision. Obviously you need some game knowledge to progress in Rank, but you don't need to know everything, and certainly not enough to actually know what you're talking about when it comes to game balance. Kind of like how Steven Hawking is a genius but mechanically inept due to being crippled.

What i am saying is we cannot measure how well someones game knowledge is just by their posts on the boards.

There is no in game rank for their knowledge about league. So when someone has the idea to make a diamond / plat + sub forum for gameplay / balance, it actually makes sense to have people who KNOW what they are talking about.

You know forsure that those players are NOT talking out of their asses.

Actually there are Plat+ players who really only have a very vague idea of what they're talking about. That's why I personally don't dismiss a opinion based on rank, but rather upon the merit and quality of the content of the post.

no not at all, but riot has said it balances to platinum players, so it makes some sense to have some place where they (plat+) can give opinions about balance.... i disagree with it, but this is riots stance.... so should we not encourage proper balance...

89.53% of all ranked players are gold and below (source www.lolsummoners.com/stats). Expecting the vast majority to not be gold and below would be rather strange.

Basically. People who are content with the game's design aren't likely to post random threads about it. They'll just check on existing threads and comment on whatever discussions they feel like joining. Game analysts will probably post once in a while, just to show research or share an unorthodox idea that sounds interesting on paper. And then complaints will be the majority of threads, because the two main purposes of a forum are expression of opinions and asking questions.

Foundational skills and degrees of optimization are different for every player (not to mention difficult to measure with a high degree of accuracy), so we lean on the MMR system to serve as our best proxy to represent a player’s individual skill. With that in mind, our philosophy leads us to balance towards players at the upper end of mastery, which we currently believe to be around platinum and above.
