Correction, a game that judges 'YOU' on how often 'YOUR TEAM' wins or loses, isn't accurate. 5s and 3s are more accurate because it judges 'YOUR TEAM' on how often 'YOUR TEAM' wins or loses.

The random factor of the extra 4 people you play with each and every game of solo queue does not bring correctly estimate your skill level except at the upper tiers of ranks. Bronze - Gold are literally the exact same rank, climbing through them takes persistence rather than skill.

the sad thing is that the ranked system really doesnt reflect how well you play. even uberdanger who is diamond says that he only made diamond because he could spend day after day grinding games. the reason it doesnt reflect your skill is because just one person on your team can make you lose regardless of how well you played.

Except the system doesn't judge how well you do.

Everyone doesn't play ranked so yea that statement holds true to an extent.

Actually i'd say it doesn't. My last rating i had was gold 5, which i got in about 1.5 weeks due to my internet having issues at the time which caused it to randomly disconnect every 30min-1hour. So i went from silver 4 to gold 5 in a little over a week, just so i could get free stuff... yeah my rank reflects my skill level.

That said, i feel like it's becoming more accurate as the game devolves from a strategy moba to a twitch reaction style action moba. Game knowledge is becoming less relevant. Champions (mainly the brusiers and assassins) are having their kits designed in ways which mean it's more important to get your own champion's mechanics down than it is to understand what and how the enemy might use their champion's kit.

The problem is that the system judges based on statistical numbers. For a somewaht relevant estimation based on numbers, you do need a certain samplesize(scientific relevant usually is 2000+) However, most players have a far lower samplesize, so the estimation is prone to flaws, as there are alot factors out of the players controll in soloQ. So Rueian is right, since people rarly will have 1000ranked games in a season, that would be ~3-4rankeds a day...

i for example reached plat 5 last season, with nearly 70% winrate and only ~70 rankeds played total. I'd argue that plat 5 doesn't really reflect my skill level. Your rank only really reflects your skill if you frequently play rankeds...

Your rank has nothing to do with your skill level

Well, in fairness, it IS a guesstimate at best. Anyone can luck out and get promoted higher than they should be, and then it's very hard to fix if they end up in a rank they shouldn't be in (you gotta drop to bronze level MMR to fall out of gold for example, so there's potentially plenty of lucky ass silver grade players in gold, you also literally can't drop out of silver, which is why some people consider it to just be more bronze)

Not to mention it also works the other way around with the existence of smurf accounts, which exist solely for people too good for the accounts rank to whip players and stroke their e-peen

I don't play ranked since I don't have the time, but I've been playing since beta and often get matched against plat or diamond+.

That is why ranked is a poor reflection, it is only small portion of their experience.
