League of Legends Is Not The Same Game It Used To Be

This game does nothing except give me headaches anymore.

It's sad because I used to have so much fun playing League. Now, however, it's become such a "team game" that no matter how well I do it's a huge pain in the you know what to even be useful on a losing team. I've tried queuing different roles but it doesn't matter. If I'm not duo or pre-made and my teammates are not on the same "playing field" as the enemies, it's a hard painful game every single time. It also usually results in a big fast Loss unless we hold off until late game and the enemy team throws hard.

I started playing League 3 and a half seasons ago and this year is the least fun I've ever had playing this game. I never used to tilt or even question my teammates but this season I've started having huge problems mentally because no matter how hard I try it's never enough. That's not something ANYONE likes to feel. In the past I didn't care about my team, I knew that if I played well enough there was a pretty decent chance we could pull through in the end. This season however I NEED my team for some unknown reason. Even when I get off to a great start, even if I play flawlessly, the enemy team finds a way to deal with me every single time if my team plays poorly or makes terrible choices. It's the worst feeling in the world when you start a game 6-0 then end the game 6 kills with 7 or 8 deaths.

I hate to say it but League of Legends has been destroyed for many players over the years due to many of the things that are constantly being removed from the game. Every single time a re-work is done champions get ruined horribly. Taric isn't the "superman" of armor he used to, Poppy & Sion lost their entire identity as champions, and Soraka became a team slave with little to no defense from enemies. The new Assassin rework also appears to be literally KILLING champions just because their old style is not "befitting" to what Riot wants. The game I fell in love with years ago is not the game I'm playing now and it's getting worse and worse with each passing year. How much longer will it be before I start disliking League?

Not sure how anyone else feels but my frustration is growing more and more. This isn't the League of Legends I want to play.

overall from this whole thread what can people learn, is that riot is transforming assassins into skirmishers.

Sion has way more identity now. He used to be your standard big Noxian soldier dude, but now he's a hulking juggernaut of undead flesh, with cool abilities and, IMO, the most fun to use ultimate in the game. Poppy : same thing as with SIon. Old Poppy was some diplomat yordle. New Poppy is a humble but strong warrior, guided by the principles of justice, and on a never ending quest to find a true hero.

I'm not complaining that they didn't become "better" my point is, they are no longer the fearsome solo carry champions that they used to be. Both Poppy and Sion used to be one man armies in the proper hands, much like Illaoi is in her current state. As much as I hate Illaoi, she is a prime example of how League of Legends champions were ALWAYS designed in the past (in terms of top laners at least).

Little by little Riot is removing elements from all champions which previously allowed them to accomplish the impossible. Take for example Fiora's old ultimate, Sion's old ultimate (which used to be able to tank even the fountain laser, it was that terrifyingly strong), Poppy's damage increase and invincibility from her old ultimate, Katarina's spammable W (which was reworked so that the player cannot always control it anymore), Gangplank's super powerful E from the past (replaced with terrible barrels), Soraka's "Starcall" (which with 40% cdr had a .8 second cd and allowed her to basically solo enemies), Nidalee's spears, the list goes on and on. These abilities weren't nurfed because they were too powerful, it was because Riot wanted "teamwork" and these abilities inhibit enemies from being able to work around individual opposing champions.

In Riot's mind, if there's any ability that allows someone to solo carry a losing game and turn it into a win, then that ability ruins the enemies ability to "outplay" you and needs reworked. This is a terrible philosophy that Riot has been following for 3 years now and simply put it's taking all of the fun out of even playing.

League of Legends climb to fame was never the fact that it was a team game. It has became and stayed popular because it has set itself apart from all the competition (DOTA 2, Heroes of the Storm, etc.) as a game where a single individual was able to prove their worth without having to fully rely on their teammates. Mechanics such as farming, outplaying, timing abilities and camps, positioning, timing windows, split pushing, etc.. these are the things that allowed players in the past to be capable of solo carrying. These things have become less and less important as the game has aged simply because of items and champions introduced into the game paired with re-works on any champions who proved themselves capable of solo carrying games.

As a side note, your definition of Sion is sad. Old Sion was 1000 times more fun to play. His new ultimate is nice but compared to the fear levels of facing the old perm stun Sion, the reworked version is lacking big time. The same thing basically for Poppy. They removed basically all the skill factors from old Poppy and turned her into a low skill floor Tank who doesn't have to do hardly anything at all to do well. I absolutely hate the new Poppy.. I used to play Poppy and it doesn't even feel like the same champion. It feels more or less like they simply removed Poppy from the game and put a completely different champion in the game with the same name.

What you seemed to like about Poppy and Sion was they had skill, but their old kits lacked any thereof, perma stunning people isn't skill, it's a bad mechanic that ruins others enjoyment of the game. Same with Poppy. Her old ultimate was all kinds of stupid. You pointed, clicked, then facerolled. Where's the skill there? If you played the new Poppy, then it saddens me you don't understand the new skill ceiling she has. By no means am I saying I'm good at Poppy, but the sheer amount of thought and prediction that is required to use her accurately is immensely more than it used to be.

Sion in the past could stun 1 single target and he had no other CC besides that single target stun. Let's compare that with current Sion who has in contrast gained an AoE knock up, a slow, and another knock-up from his ultimate. Now tell me, what requires more skill - being able to target many enemies or having to decide which enemy is the best one for you to focus of many? Old Sion also couldn't ult himself back into lane every time he made a mistake and died, he couldn't ult himself out of bad situations, he had to CARE about his positioning. Contrast that once again to the new version of Sion.. he doesn't care. New Sion has a "get out of jail free card" every single time he dies post 6. He gains a revive passive on top of that which means it's even more punishing than the old one if the enemy has a close trade with him.

New Sion has a massively lower skill floor than the old Sion.

TheHappyReaperz2 votes

Have you tried hitting Sion's CC? The AOE knockup has a couple second charge up time, and Sion's ult is one of the hardest things to land, since it gives the enemy so much warning before he even gets near them. Although his new passive isn't the best thing ever, it's much better than the RNG stuff his old passive had.

Requiemsfire1 votes

Sion's current kit requires timing and prediction of the enemies movements so that you can chain together your abilities because everything in his kit is a wind up skill shot. He also has to position himself on top of the enemy to land his Q knock up effectively. His ultimate is the strongest ability in Sion's kit so using it to run away severely hampers Sion's initation in team fights.

Knowing what target to focus is a natural must of League of legends in general but we'll pretend this is a skill that current Sion doesn't need.

His passive is useless in a huge portion of the situations where Sion does die.

Ralanr1 votes

If you're ulting to lane as Sion then you're playing Sion wrong. Unless you hit someone while doing it then it's a wasted ult.

As for the whole "Single target vs AoE skill comparison" are you actually being serious on the point and click stun requiring more skill than his highly telegraphed AoE knock up?

All you need to do with the point and click stun is get in range and click a button. Sure you can focus an important target, but that's not really skill. Skill is the execution of the ability. New Sion has to position himself right and predict the enemy position on top of beating their reaction time in order to CC them.

And the "get out of jail" free card isn't that great. Even pre-6 you might get a cheese kill. A. Just yesterday I fought an Olaf in top and when my passive was active he would just walk out of reach. Neither of us had boots and my movement speed boost wasn't enough.

Sion's passive is literally something you can survive by walking away at average speed. He needs an RG or FM to utilize it properly.

And you want to talk about punishing the enemy for fighting you? Old AD Sion with his Ult was practically unkillable. Sure it was a hypercarry build, but this was pentakill in enemy fountain bullshit unkillable.

You're complaining that you can't carry as hard as you used to?

Being able to use team coordination to punish fed enemies for mistakes is vital to the game's health. If all that mattered was one player out of 10 got fed and that decided the game, I would not enjoy League. If you want to play a game that you can carry reliably, try Just Cause 3. Online pvp games by nature are not meant to be easy to carry, and if you expect the enemy team to not coordinate, then this isn't the right genre for you. Or just play ranked in bronze 5, but expect the same lack of coordination on your team.

League is meant to be a team game. That's not some arbitrary direction set by Riot devs, but is what makes this game great.

Of course it's meant to be a team game and one most surely needs his/her team to win a game. But, team dependancy has crossed a line, especially since usually your team is nothing more than a bunch of strangers. League has always been about teamwork but, right now, a single unit's effect on the game has never been more insignificant and that is bad since teams' coordination is most of the time suboptimal. This season's condition only worsened from the way Riot boosted snowball potential, especially down at bot lane. When you make a mistake you get slim to none chances of coming back anymore, more so with the continuous increase in damage.

League is above all a team game YES! But, since fully coordinated play cannot exist in soloq, the importance of a single unit needs to be boosted back to its old values.

The following might read as the condescending answer of an asshat, but stay wit me through the first line, you will feel better for it, trust me...because I know exactly what you mean.

Not sure how anyone else feels but my frustration is growing more and more. This isn't the League of Legends I want to play.

Then...don't.

You know, its perfectly reasonable to not play a game when it developed in a direction you don't like. There are other games. I left League months ago, for exactly this reason. Dynamic Queue was a design decision that caused me headache. It was, and still is (S7 keeps it, only we also finally get soloQ back) total garbage.

So, what did I do? Look at my ranked games, and the dates played.

I left. I played World of Warcraft and Minecraft for 2 months, and then went on an Overwatch Trip. I don't regret that decision.

And now, that Riot announced that my favorite gamemode will be brought back, I returned. Simple as that =)

The whole problem with League of Legends is kills give way too much gold. We have noobs going 10-0 in 12 minutes and shitting on players who are a lot better than them because an even bigger noobshit couldn't stop feeding him in lane. This shit needs to stop. Kill gold needs to be reduced.

Mig891 votes

Ive always thought this. I kinda wish they could make kills worth less. The point of a kill should be to take an enemy off the map. I think it'd help new people learn that CS is much more important.

Yea it really fuckin irks me that I spent a lot of time learning to CS properly only to have some asshole noobshit retard on my team feed so much that the enemy's gold gains outpace mine. I really wish they would nerf kill gold. It's too punishing to functional human players with a working brain who have to play with morons that can't stop feeding.

Well I have started playing in I guess season 2 and Imo this game gets better aspecially last time, they are Creating interesting champions, they are not as broken as they used to be, all new champions except yasuo I consider really well done. It's harder to carry solo like it used to be so one moron can't destroy entire game, macro mechanics are more important, there are No More champions like Old kassadin with almost 100% ban rate.

This game really gets better you just probably miss the game lol used to be and you used to play but trust me, league of legends wasn't better in the past at all.

you know

every NEW game feels fun unless it sucks

When a game is NEW/fresh to you, you are enjoying yourself much more, regardless of outcome. When you're new and kinda learning, you could get utterly shit stomped and still kinda have a decent time if there arent massive flamers

After a few years (or months for some people) that NEW novelty factor wears off, and if you genuinely enjoyed the game, you'll stay for awhile.

This is how i personally feel why everyones saying that league just isn't fun anymore. I'm sure it's insanely entertaining to anyone actually new to a moba game

i gave my opinion on why the game as been nothing but frustrations for me but ill post it here too:

{quoted}

Soraka is a bad champion now this does not mean she's weak... being strong does in no way mean good or vice versa... usually they even seem to be in opposition... soraka is bad because... she's not a healer anymore... the healer-mor of the game is a bad healer... when you rank support champions soraka should be on the far end of the least tanky and least aggressive champ... for that matter support champs should deal slightly less damage and should suck up the utility that many adcs have... now for soraka... her heal is a bad heal... depending on its level... her level and her itemization her heal can go from a very weak heal to a negative heal... because you cant consider just the hp gained by your team member... you have to consider the overall group's health... what happends its that her heal then has to have a short cooldown which in turn forces it to heal less for balance and you end up with a heal that... doesn't feel meaningful... so while it might seem for the enemy that her heal is un-fun because it heals her teammates too fast... its also un-fun from the soraka player because it doesn't actually heal and it doesn't feel good as meaningful... add to this that her heal is now on a very short range only makes it so much worse... it feels terrible her passive is also bad because it it doesn't add anything... usually at 40% health the teammate is as good as dead... well below the safe threshold... also saving said teammate usually requires soraka to actually dip below her own safe threshold... forcing her to return to base after returning from base which would be the most common use of said passive... so overall... feels bad as for her Q its now the unfortunate way of healing... forcing a weakened champion (from using W) to make aggressive plays when she shouldn't a very unreliable way of healing... with a very very weak heal... as for a soraka player it's usually not fun wasting too much mana having to nearly spam her Q to regain small amounts of heal only a few times... on the other team being constantly spammed by something that has a long range and that can slow is just plain annoying... and un-fun... so it doesn't feel good to use it... only barely when it hits... so overall... feels bad as for her E... its just... wrong... giving mana was a core of soraka... her E has a too long a cooldown and its barely able to be useful... sure... an instant aoe silence is something powerful and this skill is somehow the one it actually feels less bad... but its still incredibly hard to be used fully... the aoe silence zone is fairly easy to be walked off so using its full potential is uncommon, and when it does the pay off finally feels good... but only then... so... overall... it feels mostly bad her ultimate had the least changes... except it now has a longer cooldown... and this is unfortunately the actual only way she has of healing herself her health cost is 10% maximum health... so... she should have a percentage healing system... at least... every time you heal you pay more and more effective health unlike other health % costs meaning she cant build health because any hp regen becomes weaker... unless you build warmog's... a tanky item witch itself is badly design (but for other reasons)... and forces you to keep building HP witch is in a way building to make weaker until it activates and it becomes viable or you can build tanky to make more aggressive plays... but end up not being able to make decent heals or meaningful plays later in the game... you can build AP witch could make you an actual healer... the closest you can be to the role you should have but you end up reducing your plays to healing a few times in a very very small time and... doing nothing else because u cant regain health though any viable means... or you can build support items... being more useful for the team and forgetting you have a Q a W... or a mix of any of these but... in the end... they don't feel good... of all the champions i used to consider my main soraka was the one above all... the one that fit my play style the best... and this rework... it really hurt me... not just because of soraka... but because almost all my other main champions... safe for maybe 2 (for now as it seems)... were reworked and lost what made me chose them in the first place... i've played since season 2 and i main as a support... i'm one of those players who actually wants to play as a support... who's first pick IS support... and in the end... i think the problem with riot isn't as simple as most players end up thinking... riot designers have to work with the data and the players that play the game... but... unless the hypotheses of player archetypes is considered the game might not reach what the designers truly want... most players don't want to play as a support... they don't feel it as fur to play as... i do so it got me wondering as to why i like to play as a support and why other might not and why the champions i liked the most were reworked into ones i didn't i've considered that i could very easily be angry or frustrated at the change for change itself... but that only lasts before the change and for a short amount after the change... in this case... it didn't... i've also noticed that most players consider a good champion as a strong champion but the ones i find or used to find most fun weren't usually the strongest ones... they usually felt fun for a certain play style i could have or for a theme... so i think the reason most reworkes were made were because they fit the game better... for a certain player archetype... wihch is the archetype of players in the majority... reason why even after reworks, they usually see more play, as it fits the majority's archetype... unfortunately... riot has been slowly weening out players that don't have that archetype... players that joined the game when there was a... place for them to play... but not anymore... unfortunately... the archetype of players riot seems to be focusing on... doesn't fit a supportive play style... sure there are other reasons why players don't play support... losing xp, losing gold... but i think that's only part of the reason... and why there have been so many reworks... soraka wasn't as good in her previous state... but she's worse now... as in less good

karma, xerath, soraka, mazalahr, zilean, heimerdinger, yorick... all of these... i got them for a reason... and it wasn't because they were powerful... it was because they felt good... because they fit me... i didn't get other champions... i got these... and after the rework... they had lost their spark to me... and i guess like me many other players... not most players...but many others... felt the same...

the game has changed... and i don't mean its a bad thing... it gained a lot of traction... its risen a lot... but... unfortunately... with each rework of one of these champions, and others like them... it slowly became less and less fun to the point it started to become sad...and emotionally painful to play... riot made fun game but... for many players... that game is slowly disappearing and for some its gone Karma once a diplomat team player oriented support... now speaks in platitudes and is a self centered mage Xerath once a powerful archon with a fun mechanic ... now while still strong doesn't actually feel powerful at all, lost a fun mechanic and much more Malzahar a champion with some very interesting skills ... now strong but too much agency has been lost Zilean my first champion, fun mechanic ... now very downplayed mechanic, feels less useful Heimerdinger first champion to play as, fun turrets ... now is focused on annoying rockets (also gives me longing/nostalgia for karma's old ult) Yorick even though it had its problems, wonderful theme and cool mechanics, very diverse ... now, lost everything appealing to him and yes Soraka the arch-healer of the game ... now not an actual healer (i explained everything else about her already)
