Passive Int Feeders What are you doing about it Riot?

Classic Smurf Passive int feeders. This one of the reasons why Smurfing is toxic to Ranked games.

They do all they can to not feed but make sure their team loses so they can stay in the rank they want to smurf in. They LITERALLY throw games but do it in a way that the stupid Riot ban bots wont ban them. They almost never talk to the team because thats the fastest way to get banned. They dont group with their team. They dont take objectives that the enemy is going for and let their team die in 4v5 fights but in the end they will have a good KDA but it was 100% their fault why the team lost. If they played at all to help their team it would have been a win.

Once they get below 50% win rate they play great and get some wins in to bring up their MMR but never play to win to advance.

They always say "Im just having fun" when they are LITERALLY Ruining the game for 4 other players

Seen this on streams multiple times. And people actually will try to claim "soft inting" is not a thing

Cause “soft inting” just be called intentjonally throwing.

For 9 other players, since sensible players don't enjoy an easy win versus a smurf.

I have seen people that literally stays a kilometre away of every teamfigth because "if I get in a teamfigth and die I migth not get an S". They basically lose the game but somehow get an S, so they get an S as a reward for throwing the game. In ranked, obviously.

What is this kind of shit and why is it not reportable?

I didn't know this game measured distances in real-life meters. That's pretty cool. What's the conversion rate to the "units" (or Teemos) usually given?

A reminder that 'Ranked' is not intended to be 'for fun'.

Ranked is for climbing and putting your best foot forwards to win. Normals are the 'for fun' mode.

It’s a game. It’s for fun. If you’re not having fun what’s the point?

5050BS13 votes

Im not having fun because they are throwing the game. If I had a team mate that actually cared about trying to win it would be fun.

This is the same as a bully saying they are just "having fun" while they shove someone in a locker.

The op described a phenomenon of some players ruining games. I don't know if it's really a thing, but what you wrote here sure doesn't seem to bear any relevance to what he wrote. What's the link between the two?

Sure! The original poster is aggravated because players in his game are trying out new champions and, being inexperienced with those champions, playing suboptimally with them. The original poster feels this is sufficient grounds to harass his allies for it. His anecdote further goes to say that the inexperienced players are justifying their suboptimal playing by saying “I’m just having fun.” This original poster thinks this game is not about having fun if the fun is distressing the other 4 allies. I made efforts to remind him that the game is indeed just to have fun. The original poster, afaik, posits a solution to restrict those players to nonranked, apparently unaware that both Smurfs, trolls, and try-yards exist not just in ranked, but in all game modes, and there is no practical solution to segregating players based on their intensity.

650 Ranked games 380 of them as the champ they are throwing with is not "Trying out a new champ" Also that is what Normals are for.

Im talking about Passive Smurfs that literally do what they can to say in one rank. But this is also streamers and youtubers that do it for views. If you think that your fun at someone else expense is "ok" then you are part of the toxic problem. Your "right" to fun stops when it steps on my fun.

No, he described smurfs holding the team back in order to stay at the MMR they prefer, and lying about just having fun. Now whether or not there is any truth to this, this is what he described.

This original poster thinks this game is not about having fun if the fun is distressing the other 4 allies.

If your fun requires 4 other people to be deprived of their own then your fun is toxic and should not be allowed. As simple as that. There are other people besides you in a team game so selfishnes doesn't fly.

I made efforts to remind him that the game is indeed just to have fun.

Sure, but the team nature of the game limits the manners by which you are allowed to use it to have fun. You enjoy playing a given role and kicking ass at it, have at it. You enjoy just dirping around and not giving a flying fuck about what happens to the other 4 people on your team, you don't belong on that team.

The original poster, afaik, posits a solution to restrict those players to nonranked, apparently unaware that both Smurfs, trolls, and try-yards exist not just in ranked, but in all game modes, and there is no practical solution to segregating players based on their intensity.

Yeah, the issue of detection and punishment is way more complicated than the op would suggest, but the basic idea of players shitting on their teammates games should get punished is spot on. And discarding that idea just because no practical solutions for it are obvious is a ludicrous suggestion.

You played those modes? There’s just as many nerd ragers and try-hards. Not everyone in this game is going to be trying for LCS. Some of us have jobs and lives and when you graduate high school you might understand. Deal with it.

TheMonkeyKiing4 votes

This is exactly what I hate but you worded it well. Yes there are people who can throw games while dodging the punishments because they can make it look like they aren't intentionally feeding. Sadly, it's too hard to detect if they are doing it intentionally because it would require manual inspection, and even then it is still hard to detect. I'm not saying it's riot's fault, but the players who ruin this game.

BigFBear4 votes

I don't get it. Why do people do such things? What's the reason to intentionally stay in a lower elo? And why can't they do that in normal games?

to stomp or derank it's fun

I personally want to hit iron 4 next season, and when I was trying for bronze 5 this season I would be so insanely fed, and just let my team lose

i had a tristana in a ranked game leaving the team at the start of every fight and going on base by foot (not dc) or farming jungle right next to us. Didn't talk at all in chat.

5050BS3 votes

This is one of them. The bots will not ban them but they are trolling the team and should be banned

Hocker2 votes

I've had two people lately doing things to intentionally bait being flamed only to say they will feed if they get flamed... and proceeded to feed.

sneakydoug3 votes

You can disagree with me and downvote me all you want. I’m calling it as it is. Riot will never just mass-purge every individual you happen not to like. This is a company, it’s intention is to make money. And banning your customers is generally a very poor strategy. Like, really, banning and restricting players who are... having fun? There would be literally no player base if riot banned everyone who wanted to play a new champion once in a while. So it’s not going to happen. If it causes you this much distress I advise you to take a nap or focus on things that do make your life happier.

ZDarkos11 votes

Theres a difference between having fun in a normal unranked game and intentionally throwing the match in a RANKED game just to stay at that level.

I regularly try out new champions but that's what norms are for. Not ranked games.

Thefrostyviking5 votes

Dude.

There is a large difference between trying and failing and intentionally failing.

There are legitimately people who will play say 3 games on their mains and just stomp hard as hell, then throw 2 games on some other random champ before going back to completely stomp 3 more games on their mains.

A korean pair did this on....i think it was yi+kayle? They had a gross 80%+ winrate on them with around 1900 games played or around that........and then their troll picks, tahm and nunu had a happy 0% winrate with 2000 games lost in a row on those champs.

But because they balanced the winrates and never said anything the systems didnt register them.

This isnt "trying new champs" or "relaxing" this is straight up screwing with others for their own fun, and plenty of other people are doing similar shit all over.

Now i personally believe there isnt any kind of easy solution, however its perfectly justifiable to be mad about it because it is truly toxic.

Back to what people have been requesting for a while now: Have MMR to adjust based on performance (with the current neural network and tons of parameters in game rn, it's literally cake to get the desired outcome). People will complain less about trash games, and this would automatically resolve itself.

Also, have you consider that they may be legit and can't climb due to bad macro games?

Leetri2 votes

Riot's stated that they'll never add performance based matchmaking because it's just not good. Overwatch had it and they had to remove it because people could get to top 500 with 30% win rates by padding certain stats. Imagine if everyone could get Challenger by just ulting as Soraka every time the ult came off CD, that's more or less what happened. Match quality would drop like a rock in League. "Don't end yet I need 5 more kills", "wtf go away, I need this farm for my rank", "I won't defend Nexus, I probably will die and lose even more LP if I do", "report jungle for taking my farm and LP", and so on. Kill stealing would be an actual thing since now you're actually stealing LP from that player. Then there's a ton of factors that goes into a win that you can't quantify through stats, such as callouts, zoning and so on.

ListrOfSmeg1 votes

Just a couple of thoughts on this: - Soraka healing on your CD: You make it based off of proximity to death of teammate/s, i.e.: did your ultimate prevent death vs heal low enemies in combat vs heal champions at 90/100 percent health. - Don't end, need more kills: Not sure why in a game where destroying a structure to win, you would anticipate increased value of a player to be measured proportional to quantity of accredited deaths to an enemy champion. etc, etc.

They may have said it doesn't work, but it's just as likely that the metrics they trialled, attributing to the value of a player in a game were poor. I think it would be extremely complicated and time-consuming to design, but I don't believe for a second that one metric solely based on win/loss result can ever be has optimal as an alternative based on reasonable measures of a players contribution within the game. What it more likely comes down to is that the amount of resources (i.e.: hours/cost) to get something better and not abusable is too great and obviously less revenue generating that a shiny new skin.

I'm just saying your comments are really rudimentary and it involve very limited thought.

Because what I'm suggesting is taking the entire game performance, scaling, gold lead, cs lead, etc. of the entire team, over time. There are factors that is certainly isn't measurable easily, etc. but in overall it is STILL better than current, where the hyper carry gets the same outcome as the feeder as long as they are in the same team. Getting that 5 more kills isn't going to improve anything with a trained AI. And all these computation work is literally impossible to do manually minus a neural network trained specifically for the task, with good parameters. I don't expect to see this anytime soon, though.

But of course, spending that effort to build a sustainable important core game mechanic is way less important than developing a buggy one time event to promote new skin sales "cough Odyssey cough".

Edit: clarification on stat grind on overall MMR: it doesn't. Not against a good neural network.

BugsLivesMatters1 votes

And that is exactly why Riot will never implement that kind of MMR system. It would just cause more problems than it would fix.

I mean sure, theoretically they could sink a tonne of time and money and resources into making a system that can't be exploited as ListOfSmeg is saying. But come on, this is Riot we are talking about. They will NEVER invest such tedious amounts of time nd resources into fixing a system unless they had reason to believe it would net them profits.

GayFluffyUnicorn2 votes

Meh overwatch is vastly different. Look at riots new stat site. I can compare myself to master/challenger camille players for example. How much they roam, cs difference etc etc. If riot has the ability to pull out THAT much data it wouldnt be too hard to INCLUDE not solely but include your performance. So that people like me who shit on the entire game five games in a row but still lose because 2+people refuse to win a game climb.

5050BS3 votes

They could do it with neural networks but that would mean spending time rewriting the MMR system and Riot only wants to spend time on VGU and Skins

It’s really not at all the same. You can walk away from this game and still maintain a healthy mental state. Being shoved in a locker or physically bullied at a school.. hmm... don’t think it’s that easy.

It’s a game. Some people are not going to take it as seriously as you, and there’s nothing you can do about that.
