Disenchanting an Ultimate Skin Shard doesnt even give enough OE to unlock a 975 RP skin

Eedat··134 votes·5,106 views

Just think about that for a second. Disenchanting an Ultimate skin shard gives 650 OE. Unlocking a measly 975 RP skin costs 675 OE. Let that sink in.

Riot promised us free shit then rescinded that idea. Now we get a system in which it takes a centurey to unlock skin shards to permanent. I'm still sitting on skin shards I received from last year's christmas event and I am nowhere near unlocking ANY of them.

Because they are a business and not in it to give free stuff away. They want to trick you into thinking you can earn free stuff, then you get frustrated with how long it takes, and you give in and buy stuff.

Yeah...problem is, I actually paid money for those chests last year. Even then I had to disenchant some of the loot I bought just to unlock other shards to permanent.

Why didn't you just buy the skins directly instead?

Hello the loot boxes=gambling thing? The chance to get something better for less. That's why.

This. It's a common tactic that's used in loot box or trashy free to play mobile games. You're given a lot of free stuff early on so you can enjoy breezing through rewards. The rewards will slowly stop coming in and the game will get harder until you're not having as much fun as you used to, giving you the incentive want to buy back that level of fun. Don't you think it's a bit odd how they introduced a system where people benefited way more than they should have, only to gimp it a little while after and make it even harder to gain stuff (IP to Blue Essence) that wasn't even tied to said system originally? You can Google it, it comes down to a science of fooling the customers.

Just keep the shards until they increase the value because they made hex tech boxes virtually useless to get at this point and won't be making any money off of it.

Epic+ shards are just fucking useless now. It will take months of hard grind to actually unlock them - and using money to speed up the process isn't even a viable option, as I'd actually spend less directly buying, say, Project Vayne than buying chests for enough OE to unlock it from a shard. Disenchanting them for piss-poor returns sucks. No, I'm not disenchanting that DJ Sona for shitty 650 OE even tho I will take years to unlock her.

And no, that "years" part isn't just a hyperbole. Assuming you play a high number of champions well enough to obtain all 4 monthly free chests during the season, AND you get super lucky with key drops - you'd still need an equivalent of either 5 ultimate skins, 9 legendary skins, 12 epic skins, 17 regular skins, 22 750 RP or 31 520 RP skins. Now, how often you get skin shards in your boxes after useless shit like champ shards or emotes? How often are those shards of Epic or higher rarity? With no exaggeration, best case scenario will take years.

So, all the more expensive skin shards serve only one purpose now: gathering dust in the inventory. Riot should have just been honest with us: "Yo guys, we decided we don't like giving away free cosmetics after all, so we are taking that away."

Is anyone really surprised? These are the same people that returned legacy skins after a promise was made that they were unique and a one time thing.

Now fast forward to hextech crafting, and I've gotten dozens of skins for free from it, I haven't bought RP since they released it.

Riots losing money on the large number of free skins they were giving away, and like their business decision to re-release those limited skins for money, they're limiting our free unlocks so they can in turn make more money.

I mean, its a smart financial move, but they're clearly dodgy and scummy while they do it.

I am actually certain that they have made more money from the hextech system than they lost.

Many of the people who would be buying but didn't were already not likely to buy much.

I, for example, quit buying years ago and would never buy even if hextech didn't exist ever.

Hextech does however provide people with thay temptation to throw in tons of money for minimal return. Something about that gambling experience is so addicting that those who get trapped in it are more likely to blow more money than they lost from their remaining customers. Take into account transaction costs/shipping for RP cards and big buyers are actually much more profitable than little buyers.

Instead, what this is is a money grab. An attempt to make every player who only used the hextech system to start buying stuff.

At least it gives enough for a 750. Riot is a small indie company, they cannot afford to just give out the better skins like that.

Did you just call the company with the most played game in the world and with one of the most elite esports programs a small indie company?

Disenchants Ultimate Shard Rito: HOW DARE YOU?! YOU ONLY GET ENOUGH OE TO JUST STARE AT THE 975RP SKIN AND NOT BUY IT STILL!

Well I mean honestly Rito still gotta make money. I complain hella much about not getting free stuff on LoL, but hey it's just skins. Aint a pay-to-win game.

I'ts not that I'm not getting free skins. The thing I'm more angry about is that they introduced this system of free stuff and are now trying to sweep it up from under us. I've been playing for years. I didn't mind getting not getting free stuff. I liked having the sale shop during events and was fine with that. But now I've gotten used to hextech chests and free cosmetics and players expect that from riot. Another thing is that they're shifting everything into the hextech system (IP becomes BE, event rewards become part of hextech, etc) and since they're replacing a lot of things that I liked during events (like my shop and skin sales) and putting it on this platform, I hate that they're devaluing hextech points. I hate that they're ruining this system that they're forcing us to depend on!

That is a good point. At the very least, disenchanting an ultimate shard should get you enough OE for a rare skin unlock.

That's right, instead spend your money on us, we are very greedy, hence our current update (which shit on everyone whom ever enjoyed playing this game) please, spend your money on us, PLEASE.

Callimander2 votes

Don't they realize that them shitting on their players will just cause the players to spend less money on the game? Personally I'm not spending another cent on this game till they get their act together and I'm sure many players feel the same!!

Ah nevermind my bad, to be honest I get confused of the rarity of both of those.

I feel like mythic is better but it isnt. Mb.

However still expensive.

I agree that the shard value is way too low now. There should be a decent reward from getting an ultimate skin shard, even if you don't want to upgrade it.

Luckily I've disenchanted all of the unwanted skins before preseason and have 8k orange essence :D

staticX261 votes

Disenchanting permanent 750 RP skin (375 OE) gives you more essence than disenchanting a Legendary skin shard (364 OE).

junglerboy161 votes

Actually if you do the math, you LOSE OE if you upgrade an ultimate skin shard to a skin permanent.

For most skin shards, finishing them with OE puts the value of OE slightly higher than 1/1 with RP. Counting the value of the skin shard itself, the best value, a 520 RP skin, costs 324 OE (124 from the shard, 220 for the upgrade), a ratio of 1/1.60 RP to OE. 750 costs 600 OE, ratio of 1/1.25. 975 costs 870 OE, ratio of 1/1.12. 1350 epic skin costs 1320 OE, ratio of 1/1.02. (Don't have any legendary shards to verify, and lolwiki's numbers are outdated so not trusting those). Ultimate skins cost 3250 RP or a whopping 3600 OE, for an abysmal ratio of 1/0.90.

If you're not seeing the issue here, it's that OE doesn't have a set value relative to real world currency (RP, bought through dollars, pounds, euros, etc.) In order for an ultimate skin to have a fair price, the upgrade to permanent cost needs to be brought in line with the other skin values, A reasonable case of matching the 750 RP skins at a 1/1.25 RP/OE ratio would bring the cost down to 2600, and once the shard value is removed, that brings the upgrade price to a clean 1950 OE!

Wait... Say that again?

You mean to tell me that after all that math I did, what this is all telling me...

Is that the fair cost of OE was what it was before they screwed up the pricing?

Dafuq Riot, you still get to decrease the value of disenchanting shards as much as you have already but the price gouging is just breaking the actual value of your currency.

Hire a mathematician or someone with a high school degree before trying to ship your next currency update, we're not stupid.
