Weekly reminder that Duskblade should be looked at in S8

Costs the same as Youmuu's, and yet due to the passive offers a MUCH more massive powerspike.

Youmuu's is a great rush if you need to roam rather than desire the burst from DB, but Duskblade's spike is clearly beyond that of just "1 full item" and can often turn a matchup you've already played poorly into one you're totally dominant in; nullifying even major leads of the opposition.

I understand it helps deal with ADCs, but it was argued by Riot that it would be given a niche alongside Youmuu's so the two were debatable choices as a first-rush-item; but DB is by far the winner of the two. It also offers the invisible power that Riot so strongly preached against having as part of their game design. Why would you as any AD Assassin NOT want ward-scanner + AD + Lethality + CDR + extra high burst on item passive as a first buy? You get covered for roaming and for laning, even in a piss-poor matchup.

P.S. I love assassins; hands-down my favorite class, but Duskblade is sucking some serious fun and variety out of AD Assassin itemization. It's honestly a total snooze-fest to see every AD and their mother build this item.

item 3504 being rushed? Nerfed item 3147 being rushed by champions in every role but support? No problem it's fine.

Speak for yourself. Played against a Rengar support last night who rushed Duskblade, proof in my match history.

I'm fine with the Ardent Nerfs but Duskblade has been a problem for a long ass time, a lot longer than Ardent was.

Duskblade didn’t singlehandedly warp the meta for a quarter of the season and became an objective similar to baron and dragon during the worlds patch

NineTailedMystic4 votes

With Ardent nerfed and hopefully their defensive itemization taken down a notch, Assassin's shouldn't need a hyper powerful Duskblade to deal with it.

Troll for Trump1 votes

ADCs are still warping the meta, so clearly not.

WolfChases1 votes

There is no point crying about ADCs being OP simply because they are Riots favorite class. They either nerf the assassins so they cant shut down ADCs or buff Supports, support items or reduce the cost od ADC core items. It's always about ADCs even if they do not get any direct buffs. We don't have even late game ADCs that are strong late game lol, even Twitch and Vayne arent weak early and they are demigods late game. With new runes and Press the Attack that "garbage early game Vayne" chunks you down to half HP in 3 AAs.

Troll for Trump1 votes

So get Riot to nerf ADCs lol.

item 3147 wasn't mandatory during x months nor during Worlds

Tanks and supports were so powerful under those patches that Assassins were basically irrelevant in pro play.

But don't get me wrong, marksmen were and are powerful.

However in that patch it was mainly the tank+support picks that dictated which marksmen were to be played.

Now that defenses are down, tanks and items are down and supports nerfed we once against have a lot of assassins and divers running around x)

And the actually strongest marksmen, like Trist, twitch and Vayne.

Ez with gold for harass rune x)

i still agree with u about Duskblade... this item need to be addressed... but i don't think u can compare it to the ardent sh*t.

Thefrostyviking1 votes

No i don't really think so x)

Ardent and the tanks were in a league all of their own.

But it's strange, for some reason AP assassins feel stronger now in the mid/lategame.

AD definitely have a huge spike at 1 item with duskblade but i´ve been trying Diana in ascension to see how some builds work and i find that she can really detonate a squishy if she catches them.

AP assassins really seem to be scaling well now somehow, wonder if the lowered magic resistance really had such an impact.

i think its this.... add to this most players aren't used to rush mr and prefer rush their core build without taking matchup in account. And orb thing (the runes of sorcery) is good against ap champ.

Ah fair enough.

But duskblade isn't being rushed by champs in every role... Also forgot that assassins got a key part of their identity nerfed, and that duskblade was compensation...

Riot has committed to the idea of "delayed burst" and don't want assassin to have much upfront damage in their kits. However they also realize that doesn't really work so they snuck the upfront damage into an item so they can have assassins actually function without having to say delayed burst was not a great idea.

So in other words, AD champions get the same thing they specifically hated AP champions having with Deathfire Grasp?

Kloqdq7 votes

I think the main difference is Deathfire turned everyone into a reliable assassin and it increased all damage greatly. Unlike Duskblade which only has a certain chunk of damage on it. I do think it still isn't good on either side but Deathfire was by far a way more powerful item, especially at the time.

It gives all of the stats that an assassin needs alongside the disgusting passive that will never be balanced. It sucks how assassins are usually balanced around one item. You're really weak if you don't buy it but too strong if you do. Sorta like what Gunblade does for Akali and Katarina. They should just remove both items and actually balance assassins properly for once. Having a chunk of burst damage on items is a horrendous design and that's coming from someone who mains Kat. Not to mention that there's no variety in builds.

Mcsquzzy2 votes

don't forget the tact on red trinket effect

Daunt2 votes

Oh i also forgot to mention the slow that melees still receive when they proc it. I can't believe that's still not removed for them as well, it literally makes you unable to miss your skill shot as well as being completely unnecessary. They really need to cut a lot of power from it since it offers so much. Although i'd rather see them remove these kinds of items but that would require a big update regarding those champs and itemization.

Morendabanus2 votes

But then they'd have to actually give us something nice when they reworked assassins, instead of randomly removing mechanics for "muh counterplay" and then lobbing on random balls of high stats so that we can still function; see Rengar passive - LUL.

Where is my ap duskblade?

Mcsquzzy1 votes

your thinking of item 3285 , the only problem with it tho is how duskblade can refresh in a bush while this requires running around and slinging spells

Sun Wu Ryuumoku5 votes

nah, duskblade Ap is item 3146

YuGiHo1 votes

i think of luden to be more like shiv than duskblade since the passive can be expended on a minion

Handy Sandy 4 votes

mages have the highest winrates tho buff assassins :^)

everyone needs an item they must all build For ADC item 2319 (can never get enough) AD assassinitem 3147 AP Mana usersitem 3165 AP non manaitem 3165 (cause nothing else AP gives 20% cdr unless they are aa reliant which they can useitem 3115 ) Sup item 2049 aa jungler item 1041 ability jungleritem 1039 Tankitem 3109 (gotta keep the ADC alive since that wins games) bruisersitem 3053

Please nerf this item. I don't enjoy auto losing fights due to it.

WolfChases2 votes

Agree. As someone who mains Rengar I can also tell that duskblade is beyond broken. It's even more broken on Kha'Zix who takes R as the first evolution point and is bread and butter item on Talon. Heck, believe me or not, that item is good even on full AP Evelyn. Damage is fine, it just shouldnt proc that often.

EinarUlfar1 votes

Aye. Also have to agree with many comments here, seriously feels like the passive was somewhat of a, "Damn. Removing insta-burst on Assassins was a bad move. We need to find a way to..slip it back in. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)"

I have a strong dislike toward how much that one item can change a battle; and I looove Assassins' damage output + mobility.

WolfChases1 votes

Yea, me too, I am playing mostly assassins or assassin like champions since the day one. Not because I consider them op but simply because they fit my playstyle and I played them even at the point where they were considered weak. I play Elise, Evelyn, Rengar, Kha'Zix, Full AD Nocturne, Diana jungle, Kindred etc. and I still disslike the concept of assassing being able to oneshot someone not vecause of him being assassin but just because of one single item. That isnt healthy concept. I would like to be able to assassinate someone with my kit by utilizing it properly and not because I have one specific item. Period.

dogehkiin1 votes

It isn't OP, it didn't break the meta to a point where you needed 1 duskblade in your team to win.
