Is there a 'healthy' way to implement stat-stealing?

we've had 2 champs that do this (without killing you first like Mordekaiser needs to), Trundle and Veigar

Veigar used to borrow the enemy's AP when he ulted and added it to his own damage. deemed unhealthy, removed

Trundle isn't really a point of controversy right now but his Q 'steals' your stats by taking a little bit of your AD and doubling it for himself, and stealing health + resists when he ults. Nobody who Trundle is intended to target enjoys his gameplay of clicking on you and stealing your stats; is there a better way to implement it on a champion like Trundle?

I thought Old Veigar didn't 'steal', it just calculated with a scaling based off the enemy's AP.

And stat stealing is toxic.

That's what I meant, more of a borrowing thing

I don't really imagine a Trundle rework where he doesn't steal your stats; it's just kind of his thing. Stat reduction is something that Darius and Garen already do, and drain-tanking is shared between him, Darius, and Illaoi. Stat-thievery is what makes him stand out on his own.

possibly if his Q required multiple hits to steal a significant amount of stats, so he doesn't take it all at once but can be dangerous to fight in prolonged trades? not sure what to do with his ult though

really because that's the only way he'll ever be healthy. Trundle literally punishes you for building items. Unless you introduce some passive that says something like "Trundle doesn't gain stats from items, instead he steals all his stats from enemy champions" he can't be healthy.

the problem with you labling what viegar used to do as stat stealing is that. he didnt stat steal. his ult was designed to make him really good against ap champions. the reason it was toxic is because squishy mages couldnt itemize damage to fight back. this allowed him to be oppressive without actually doing anything. If viegar had instead stolen ap that could have had counter play build around it.

yes Trundle an ultimate.. not a freaking ITEM that procs with every attack...

when you think about it, if the person whose stealing stats is already fed then theirs almost no way for that person to even fight back, even in a 2v1

It's extremely hard to balance around mainly. Trundle is designed around doing it and he can only REALLY do it to be more durable unless you let him bite your ADC.

the healthiest way I can think of is making his Q a short range skillshot or something, some means of unreliability to give other melees a fighting chance

not sure what can be done about his R, lol. maybe a tether that breaks if you keep him away for long enough

I'm not implying Trundle is a problem right now though. If anything I think your AD should gradually be given back to you over the Q debuff duration.

Just because he isn't a problem at the moment doesn't mean we shouldn't at least talk about it, I think. In fact I think it's these gameplay problems that hold him back.

I'd like to see as many juggernauts in a fair, playable state as possible, so that I have a big roster of them to pick from.
