How do you mess up a SPACE DRAGON?

I know this has likely been covered by dozens of other forum goers, I know I'm likely months late to this party. But it really does bare repeating how frustrating this champion is currently in ALL aspects of gameplay. Before I get really in depth, let me get the praise out of the way.

YOU ADDED A SPACE DRAGON TO LEAGUE OF LEGENDS. This is by far the coolest concept I've seen introduced since Volibear. His personality, spot on. His visual design, BEAUTIFUL! His dialogue and interactions are the most complex and hilarious of any champion to date. I'm slavering over the lore, and I can't wait to see the what becomes of pantheon once he gets his remake.

There, now let's talk the problems. This champion is not like other champions, that's most of the time a good thing. Originality/Uniqueness etc, etc. But for A. Sol? His orbiting stars fail spectacularly at living up to the fantasy of the space dragon. His Q? Great. His E? Feels sweet, don't like how much vision it grants but y'know what okay. His Ult? Boring as hell, could have been revised or given cooler effects.

But let's focus on the orbitals. What do you want to do as a space dragon? Breath starfire, be a badass, creator of the cosmos. What do I not want to do? Play this game of ring around the rosie, trying to keep MasterYi champions Zed away Ekko that Fizz ONE SHOT. Lining up the orbitals are not fun, they don't feel gratifying, they take so much mana, SO MUCH. I'm jealous of Anivia's mana costs. I SHOULD NOT BE JEALOUS OF ANIVIA'S MANA COSTS. They travel at a snail's pace, and the decision for CC to remove them entirely? I... I have no words. Even if CC turned off the outer orbital, fine, yeah, sure, leave me with the regular range. But right now any form of CC leaves you more vulnerable than a lvl 1 teemo that forgot to buy starting items but goes to invade yes that happened. I've never played a champion when I actually get a kill, it comes as a complete surprise to me. I feel NOTHING when I kill a champion. I could get a double kill and I just feel hollow from it all. I don't know how to describe it, but I get no thrill from my main way of damaging enemies, no sense of feedback.

TL:DR

  • Extravagant mana costs.
  • Incredibly slow orbit
  • Last hitting is complete BS, increase execute mechanic.
  • No positive feedback from 'Outer' Orbitals.
  • Does not match fantasy of space dragon awesomness.
  • CC removing orbitals is too punishing.
  • You build AP, too squishy. You build bruiser AP, still squishy but no damage.
  • Far too easy for enemies to avoid, way too Latency dependent.

Aurelion Sol has one of the best designed kits over the last couple years.

I donno, I like Sol. I play him jungle, and typically do really well. The orbiting mechanic is kind of anticlimactic, sure, but it's fun to play with.

And uh, don't just walk around with W on. May help some of your issues. :P

The initial casting cost of 40 is far too punishing early on, instead leading most players to simply use Q and forget they even have the ability to activate W for the first few levels.

Oh noes, 40 mana is such a punishing cost on a spell!

It are the worst thing to ever happen to any champion ever!

Oh no! You have to think about when to use it! HOW TERRIBLE!

It's things like this that make me wonder how we can even play the game. Just so impossible to do anything! Rito pls.

I have one major fix. Instead of W just increasing orbital range, it needs to change the orbital pattern from circular to an atomic style pattern so that you have some way of causing the stars to cross your person so that you can damage enemies that get too close. http://cdn.arstechnica.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/atom-light-640x360.jpg

Literally all of your points are wrong. Good job.

Wanna break it down or keep it to a single sentence?

And the worst part? I have NO CLUE how to fix the majority of these problems. This champions just doesn't feel like it BELONGS to league of legends!

If you think Volibear is interesting then...

Wow.

Volibear is a god damn lightning polar bear wearing battle-armor. His kit's aged, definitely, but I still think that's awesome.

Also, Volibear is partly based on Iorek Byrnison, a character from the His Dark Materials trilogy, and the first book, the Golden Compass. https://www.binarymoon.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/goldencompass.jpg

Well, Iorek isn't a lightning bear, just a regular talking bear in armor. So yes, partly :p

Did some one say Auo Shin?

I really think riot is releasing stuff to fast without testing it. I'd play the crap out of Sol if his kit wasn't Urgot levels of clunky. I think the biggest issue is his stars don't grow or spin faster with ap, and his q can't be used point blank. Also make it easier to charge up a big q.

with the nerfs he got I think he should be able to detonate his Q like Anivia can. He has no escape so i dont see why he cant

Sol has one of the best kits over the last couple of years.

  • E mobility allows decent ganks(making him a viable jungle).
  • Passive+W is good for zoning or farming
  • A Sol's meant to be an AP bruiser/off tank. And he does do tons of damage when he's built that way man lol.
  • How doesn't he match the awesomeness of a space dragon? He literally breaths celestial fire as an ult, can create a cluster of star out of nothingness, and has three of his own stars that orbit around him constantly that deals a fair amount damage.
