One good player still can't win it for your team

Sorry, but this was the height of League, when it was possible to carry your team. Why? Because it meant your skill was paying off, you were the most important person on your team and at the end of the game you knew you won because of it. A good game felt good. Still haven't brought that feeling back with this "preseason" though. Good games still feel mediocre and bad games still feel like shit. The original problem of last still remains, despite all of the "balance" team's efforts.

**One person still can't win the game for your team, but one terrible player can still lose it for everybody. **

Read that sentence aloud and tell me why I, as a player, should consider that fun or even remotely logical. Tell me why a developer with an ounce of common sense won't read that sentence and come to the conclusion after about 10 seconds that this encourages flaming in chat? Tell me why anyone with an IQ above 80 would think that being forced to rely people you've never met to take on critical roles you have no control over is supposed to be considered good game design. Oh right, the pro scene. Because we're all pro players with dedicated teammates. Random pubs don't exist anymore, right?

Not even Homer Simpson would come up with such a daft gameplay system. If I wanted to have this experience, I'd just go to Vegas, play the slot machines and maybe win some money out of it.

Everybody like to point the finger in game but did you ever stop and think that maybe that player with the poor score ended that way because they had to play against the best player in that match ?

Irrelevant. One player shouldn't ruin it for 4 other people.

That makes absolutely no sense dude you can't have someone solo carry a game while everyone else in the game has even scores.

In order for YOU to solo carry other people have to play BAD

That's not what I said. And yes THAT does make sense since such a thing existed in League for several years, yet people were still flooding in to play the game. But again, that's not what I was saying, though I'm sure you'll want to sidestep that little tidbit.

Your statement makes no sense.... How can someone solo carry a game and not have someone on the opposing team that they would have crushed to get to that point ?

That situation has existed since the start of league.

Sorry, for some reason you've decided to assume several things. None of which I ever said. You assumed that there must be a best player and a worst player, both of whom must be on opposite teams, which I never said. You also assumed that the deficit in skill can't possibly be distributed among more than one person and must be localized entirely on a single individual. Which I also never said. You also seemed to believe that I think every game plays out exactly the same (or should play out exactly the same) with exactly one person at the top and everyone else below him. Which I also never said.

I don't think I'll be replying to you anymore, since you seem to be casually putting words in my mouth. I've found from experience that individuals like that tend to have the hands over ears yelling loudly mentality, which is something I don't have any interest in. Take care.

But you realize this works the other way around too right? If your team sucks compared to the other team except for one person, those 4 should not in theory win because they played worse than 4 people on the other team.

I'm not talking about theory. I'm talking about the experience of playing the game. It's a game. It's meant to be for fun. Hello? Not everything is about numbers and statistics, sometimes how you feel does matter and it FEELS like shit when 4 other people play well and one person drags them all down.

ROYALR3IGN1 votes

Well if you're going to around looking for an explanation you're going to get one with numbers because it helps people understand why things are the way they are. Is it going to be a bad time if your team sucks? Yup. That's the concept. Why would 1 person being relevant in a match mean more than the other 4 people on the other team being as a whole more relevant than your own?

Yes, numbers helps people with absolutely no concept of empathy "understand," while casually ignoring the experience of the game in favor of chasing 50% in everything for the rest of their lives.

Why should 1 person drag down the rest of the team when the other 4 aren't doing anything wrong? Why should more people suffer for the incompetence of 1 person they have no control over and have no power in choosing?

Sorry I haven't been on the boards all too much lately.

Empathy doesn't help you win games, all it does is piss you off more when you lose a game you were "carrying".

How useful is empathy anyways? Great, you had a pop off game but you ended up losing. There's not really much difference if I feel bad for you or if I don't.

The 50% chance of winning is the ideal ratio for matchmaking. If you're winning more than 50%, the game will continue to put you more difficult games until you plateau around 50% because it thinks that you are better than the elo you're currently in. This is the literal definition of climbing. You climb until the games become relatively even to win or lose based on skill.

I don't see why everyone seems to hate this. If the game thinks you suck because you keep losing, then you'll fall into a skill bracket where everyone else is playing at the same level. It's basic math; this is why some games are going to be harder than others. But the game has no way to tell whose gonna not be playing at their best today, whose tilted, whose playing drunk, who just got fired from their job, who just discovered some op strategy, it has no way to take into account all these other factors that affect your play except for your past performance to expect that you will play exactly as you did before, and to match you based on that.

"Why should 1 person drag everyone down if the other 4 aren't doing anything wrong?"

This logic is the same reason I cannot say the reverse, "Why should 1 person pull everyone up if the other 4 aren't doing anything right?"

Its a team game. If one side is winning heavily, devote your resources to the other side of the map and get that side ahead to counter balance the side that's losing. If you can't do that, then it means your team is losing in more than one place and you'll have to make up the difference somehow in some other aspects whether its better macro play, scaling compositions w/e. otherwise yes you do deserve to lose that game, because you're being outplayed all over.

I'm talking about FUN. How FUN it is to play the game. You don't HAVE to win the game to have fun, but it sure as fuck doesn't feel like FUN when you know one person out of the five is a problem you have no control over.

i mean it kinda would seem in a team game the best team should win not the best player.

Woodakoodashooda2 votes

2+/5 people who played well should NOT be denied their victory just because only 1/5 on the opposite team did well.

One good player can win a game for your team, if the other four people are willing to cede the glory to that player and let them carry. The problem I frequently see is that so many players are absolutely certain they're the one who is going to carry, even when it's obviously somebody else. If they'd just sit back and enjoy the ride rather than always trying to make risky plays, their games might go better. I'm a mediocre player and I learned early how to let myself get carried.

MrFawknSunshine2 votes

sometimes learning how to be carried is the hardest thing to do in this game.

every one has this ego they have to be the hero the ' alpha"

alot of knowing how /learning how to be carried is being knowledgeable enough to understand your team's win condition.

There's so much truth to this. I've been in ranked games where I've done less than adequate, and because top was super fed, I let them get the kills and followed them around letting them make the calls.

I have my motto, which is "sometimes you need to sit back and let yourself get carried".

AR URF1 votes

what bugs me is one person can't really win you the game, but one person can lose you the game.

Now it's not entirely true. What I find is if two lanes are even, but say bot lane is smashing. Then yes one person can carry the game, but those types of games are rare.
