Great job with Irelia / Akali rework, Riot!

Wow, these two reworks were INSANELY successful!

How do I know?

Well, there's at least 2 of these champions every game.

That must mean the reworks were super successful, everyone now is an Irelia / Akali main!

Congratulations Riot, you really outdid yourselves with these 2 champions, before they were kinda 1-dimensional now they can do ANYTHING and EVERYTHING.

Hell, they're so good when I play my little Renekton I am so jealous of these 2 champions that I might pick em up and start playing them myself!

Why would I play a 18 sec cooldown champion (lol!) when I can just play Irelia and Akali and make LCS Big Plays for my youtube channel montage?

Seriously, these champs are so nice people in ranked perma ban them cause they're toxic and don't want other people to have fun.

That's why there's 3-4 of them in blind pick every time, so we can all have fun! Especially the akali / irelia players tho!

When are you guys gonna rework Renekton? I already have a couple things in my mind that need to be changed / improved so he is more fun like Akali/Irelia for starters we should make his stun an AOE and give his gap closer an ammunition stacking mechanic where he can stack up to 15 dashes where he can finally catch akali and irelia. That's just off the top of my head, I am sure you guys are gonna come up with something crazier than this, I mean you are the brains behind Akali and Irelia ffs! I could never in my wildest dreams imagine something so FUN as those two champions!

Godspeed Riot, every new rework increases the boundaries and capabilities of Riot Games balancing team!!! Can't wait till you "re-balance" all the champions and they are all fun to play, maybe by then I will be able to play the game with my joystick even!

''X champion isnt allowed to be fun/strong since my outdated boring champion isnt''. Just cut the crap.

Losing is boring

Winning is fun

I had that mindset until i got to plat.. then i started to think that it became kind of repetitive to just believe that and play the same champ over & over.

"X new champion should always be overtuned first instead of being undertuned and slowly worked in because fun and riot is never wrong!". can't anyone just admit that riot has made some bad decisions sometimes.

A) This thread is 2 months old B) There has never been any case of a champ whos been op for seasons until end. Riot doesnt really have ''real'' favoritism. Kog'maw is a great example of this. Champ was straight busted for practically 10 months and then when he got nerfed he got hotfix buffed patch after. Yet, we can clearly see how dogshit(no pun intended) Kog is right now.

A) sorry, forgot they removed champions last month.

B)Janna (took them years of bitching to let that one drop out of the meta).

Janna got nerfed throughout the seasons. The only time she was the best supp throughout the 4 years was in ardent meta.

she did get a lot of nerfs but those nerfs were incredibly minor slap on the wrist nerfs that barely amounted to anything until the e decay nerf. She was top tier for years until this season. Thats where the d5 janna main meme came from.

Irelia and Akali were just reworked from old outdated binary cancer into feature-creep cancers with their new set of problems, and especially in the case of Akali, having a new set of problems while basically all of their old problems are still there too.

Yeah..

ankoanko191 votes

How does new Akali have the same problems as the old one? Does the new Akali click burst you and play super passive until 6 and only win if you have worse stats or is the new Akali made to outplay you inorder to win?

She just went from stat-checking into feature-checking, arguably one and the same thing.

There is no difference between being checked by raw stats and being checked by overloading. They are both instances of the opponent being unable to do jack shit against someone who they can not play against due to the said someone's blatant advantage.

I don't get how people don't seem to comprehend that feature-creeping a thing and a problem just as bad as stat-creeping.

ankoanko191 votes

Because they arent the same thing.. There is a difference between being checked by stats and being overloaded. Old Akali & Irelia were considered overloaded but their abilities were point & click and AA based aswell. So even if old Irelia ''misses'' her E, she still outdmgs you 7s with her W, because her W gave her free stats. This means there isnt a real way for counterplay. Current Irelia & Akali have a lot of counterplay. If Akali misses her E, that is a 13s trading right there. If Irelia has 0-1 stacks of her passive, she will always lose or if she misses her E. In short, these champions have skillshots and can be outplayed with more than just ''I statchecked them''. This wasnt the case before. It's just that both of these champions are very good right now, so it seems like they're the same like what they were with their highest peak (ie how they were in S5)

A champ with "a lot of counteprlay" won't picked and hotly contested in pro play like the current Akali, it's the exact reverse. And no, she is not picked because her damage is a little off the chart or whatever, she is picked because her as a package is fundamentally broken by having way too much stuff going for it.

Fancy kits like Akali is very easy to give an illusion of counterplay, however it doesn't make it any less overloaded or unfair. There is no difference between winning against someone because your stat-stick is bigger, or if your kit is just "better" and the opponent can't do anything against you because you have a solution right up your ass for everything they can do and more. They are both bullshit victories, and in fact the latter is far more sinister because turds for brains like a lot of players are do not understand that feature creep is just as much as of a threat to game balance as stat creeping is.

The current Akali's kit is a straightup upgrade of the old kit, by retaining most of her old stuff but on top of that the new smokescreen is the old one on 2 steroids (did you say something about Akali having "a lot of counterplay"? Look no further than W change) as well as the far more general and practical version of R that frontloads the power instead of requiring Akali to really only make use of it when she's fed (the R also used to require a hostile unit if you wish to intend it as a mobility and that was the only mobility she had barring from the very short blink she had when casting smokescreen, now Akali has 3 free-point mobility without any need of an enemy unit).

Akali is no longer binary, sure, but what the new Akali means is that she no longer needs to be fed to be strong as she is just strong all the god damn time by having a fundamentally overloaded and broken kit. And that's not a "fix".

And no, she is not picked because her damage is a little off the chart or whatever, she is picked because her as a package is fundamentally broken by having way too much stuff going for it So why is Graves only picked if he is op and oneshotting or any assassin for that matter? She doesnt bring real utility other than 0.5s of a stun on her ult. The problem with Akali is just that she has a lot of survivability + dmg. If Riot nerfs her survivability (Shroud duration decreased, healing decreased, E/R cd increased) she will have a lot more counterplay. Her numbers are just very good right now. Seriously, check them for yourself.

Your 2nd statement makes no sense and basically says '' Silver players dont understand the mechanics of complex champions like Akali so they're op because they have a lot in their kits and people in low elo dont know what to do against that''. Akali doesnt outclass anyone whos kit is relevant. And by that I mean they're not some Pantheon/Mordekeiser level of old champions who should never even have a place in league to start with.

I agree, she has too much survivability for her dmg. This seems like a problem more to do with numbers than her actual kit. If Riot reduced the shroud from 7s>3s it wouldnt be near as oppressive. If Riot increased her max rank E from 10s>13s she wouldnt feel nearly as mobile as she currently does. The new akali isnt the old one with steroids, the old one clickbursted you faster than what the new one (with skillshots) does. It's an upgrade to keep her relevant but also give her MEANINGFUL counterplay.

Yeah, well both of those two champs also lost something important to each of them.

Akali is one of the worst champions atm on the rift I don't know why you complain.

45% win rate (and I'm talking about pros so mechanics being bad are out of the question: https://www.probuilds.net/champions/details/Akali ) Underpowered kit Easily outscaleable

Pyke has more damage and is easier to play than akali and a better execute and CC and invis and is a support champion

She's just frustrating to play against due to her smoke.

ankoanko191 votes

Riot doesnt balance for low elo.. Before 8.18 Akali had a 51% wr for Diamond+ (Can still kind of see it if you turn off the 8.18 function for Akali, the winrate was lowered with 2%) https://lolalytics.com/ranked/worldwide/diamond/plus/champion/Akali/Middle/

GripaAviara1 votes

I don't know what the f is that site, but akali is at 45% winrate diamond+ (mid) . Top atm she counters main top lanners so she's mainly a counterpick

https://champion.gg/champion/Akali/Middle?league= http://na.op.gg/champion/akali/statistics/mid

ankoanko191 votes

bad sources. Lolalytics stays up to date. champion.gg & op.gg are practically more like tier lists.

GripaAviara1 votes

Says who?

ankoanko191 votes

Says.. themselves. Champion.gg does not update constantly. From what I can see it updates once initially, and then once again a few days later, and then does not update really for the remainder of the patch

What does this mean? It means that champion stats towards the end of a patch are not accurately represented. If a champ shows up with a really high winrate on champion.gg, playrate goes up, banrate likely goes up, and winrate often goes down. You just need to keep this in mind as patch goes on, particularly for pickrates. You might leave a champ open thinking that is has a low pickrate on champion.gg, but that data could no longer be accurate. Lolalytics doesn't work like this. It updates its site every hour. You can see someone like Tryndamere having a 32% winrate for one hour and the next have a 55% winrate. It all varies which makes it a lot more accurate than champion & op.gg. Lolalytics also calculate statistics for higher elo games (Diamond+ while Champion.gg can only use Plat+).

If you dont believe me then just see that Lolalytics has the option for you to calculate the WR for 8.18 while champion & op.gg still stays in 8.17.

Fine akali is strong, that's why pros have 45% win rate.
