I don't know what's wrong with lux. I have no science.

But there is something about this champ that just feels busted as hell.

Her level 1 E is nearly impossible to dodge, and doesn't really ever get any better during lane phase. You're basically doing bullet time all game, trying to dodge her endless poke while also trying to CS.

Her shield is bonkers if she lines it up right in a team fight, for little to no effort.

Her Q hitbox is ridiculous compared to what you'd expect from the skillshot. You can be standing a football field away from a minion and somehow still get snagged, even if you're 20-30 degrees off from the straight line. I don't even understand it. Its like a scene out of "Wanted"

Her ult cooldown is way too short for how long ranged, fast, and damaging it is. 15+ minutes into the game, if the lux has done even remotely well for herself, its a guaranteed burned flash every 50ish seconds, or a kill, or at the very least someone chunked out of a fight because they have to base.

Like idk, I have plenty of friends who say she's not broken, I've seen plenty of compelling arguments about how she's not broken here on the boards by people who are probably way smarter than I am.

But she just feels broken anyway. It just seems like she does it all. Tons of damage, reliable CC, hard to kill, poke, picks, team fighting, you name it. Slot her into any team composition and she's fine. Better than fine, she's GOOD.

And I don't even know what you'd change on her to make her feel less busted. I don't have any ideas here -- I'm just simply stating that the champ feels broken as fuck, and I ban her every game because I just don't want to deal with her.

Sure if she loses the lane, she's basically garbage. Sure. But I've personally found that more often than not, she's gonna win her lane. And that doesn't necessarily mean the game is over -- but it does mean you have to deal with a fed lux now, which is just oppressive as shit and hard as hell to play against.

So even if you end up winning the game, there's nothing fun about it. You still had to dodge endless streams of lux bindings and lux E's and lux R's all game long because the champ just basically has no cooldowns after 20 mins.

Its almost like trying to win a game against a fed release-era Zoe. Sure it can be done, but god dammit it is NOT fun.

Things wrong with Lux:

  1. Hitboxes

  2. Mana costs

  3. Hitboxes

  4. AP items are just... a bit strong.

  5. Hitboxes

  6. Ult reset (HITBOX!)

  7. AND HITBOXES.

Her W is really too good. W max Lux's winrate is stupidly high, way above 65%, and the winrate of that drags her general winrate up

I'm really surprised that the resolve Keystones Guardian and Aftershock are so good on her. After the Athene's and Shurelya's changes, I posted to the Lux mains subreddit saying "Hey this might be good, Athene's+Transcendence+Revitalise+Mana regen support items that give CDR" I did a real number crunch and now I feel slightly proud that perhaps I theory crafted something meta before the patch with the changes went live

Aftershock, while strong, is a weak option for a keystone. Revitalise has a 55% winrate as a primary tree rune, Aftershock has a 54.7% winrate. Guardian has a 56.9% winrate. Guardian increases the winrate of Revitalise, Aftershock reduces it.

Between Guardian and Aery, on Lux I'd assume Aery would be better. I honestly think it is, but Aery's winrate (53.3%) is dragged down my those not W maxing or building full AP. I think as enchanter Lux gets refined by natural selection in soloq Riot'll hit her with more nerfs

But yeah she's strong because she can farm frostfang gold from a safe distance in lane with E, so she scales quite freely, then she can press W for a big shield at any point in the game for free

Her weakness is that she's immobile and her Q is a slow projectile so you can jump on her and kill her fairly easily

A huge problem right now is her shield (which has been buffed in the recent-ish past) in combination with certain runes and keystones. Imo, as a former Lux main, she was in a much better position in season 7, when her ult wouldn't be 30-40 second cooldown until late game. On top of this, her other cooldowns were high too. She has always has a hitbox problem, which needs to be fixed, but I honestly think upping her cooldowns again would solve a lot of her problems when it comes to damage. She has become very safe due to her low cooldowns. Way less of a glass cannon now. A few years ago, you would have to save your stun for when you were sure you could use it, you couldn't waste it. The double tap on the e has always been an annoying mechanic, making her e almost impossible to dodge. I'm sure there could be a way to change this too, like putting in a 1, 2, 3 second or so timer for when you can tap it again to make it go off. Idk, I could be wrong, but I firmly believe that she was much more balanced when she still had...well...cooldowns.

W too good. Aftershock still hasn't been gutted for ranged champs. Hitbox on Q.

Her E isnt really different from Brand W or viktor E in terms of dodging difficulty, at some point you´ll get a sense for it and become able to bait and dodge it.

Although admittedly if you are playing botlane you´re outa luck because she wont have to farm and can constantly go for optimal angle shots which she cant midlane, at least not so much.

Her Q? To me this thing is really easy to dodge, at least compared to stuff like Thresh/blitz/pyke hooks, even Neeko Q.

As for fitting into teamcomps....well yeah? Most traditional mages fit into basically any comp, Lux simply has a bit less consistent damage in exchange for that shield of hers.

Orianna, Syndra, Ahri, Xerath,Malzahar, ziggs Anivia etc, you can stick these guys into any comp and its more likely to work than not....same as lux.

The only thing different about her is indeed the shield and being such a combo onetrick, if you can dodge her shots, cleanse her CC or somehow nullify it all overall like say going invulnerable when she ults then she doesnt do anything aside from shielding her team....provided she can land that one too.

And as for her ult, if you are even remotely decent at dodging stuff then she should almost never be able to land it without help or landing her Q first, its actually that easy to dodge it.....provided you have boots.

As i see it, both Orianna and Syndra are just better overall than Lux, they have about the same effective range but more versatile kits, more consistent damage and they arent completely boned if 1 spell gets negated.

Exception being that she has the small potential to land a 5 man ult or 5 man support shield at which point she helps her team more than Syndra does but for real, how often does this happen?

....

The shield thing is actually often enough that Lux support with some builds is kinda OP late.

Played her some time ago just to see how op she was. Had score 24/2 or something like that. I hate these type of champions. Only eGirls play them for a reason, and Rito love giving them skin becuase they know eGirls will buy them. My problem is giving such a high chance of solo carrying the game to such a simple and braindead champ. And good players don't miss, ''just dodge'' isn't the valid answer to her being unbalanced. Even Dopa, best player in the world after Faker said Lux mains would drop 5 ranks if she got nerfed.

I don't believe she is "overpowered", she is just annoying to play against. The reason (I believe) why she is strong is because she is extremely easy to play and you can play her both as a Mid laner and Support. Even If you are a bad Lux player, you still can be useful, with your CC, shield and Dmg. And let's not forget that she is extremely popular, I ban her almost all the time, just because of how popular she, not because she is broken or anything like that. Her E is hard to dodge If I'm playing Melee champion like Talon, I just want to have a good time in the Mid lane, OK?
