if this game truly was "perfectly balanced"

how would you go about making decisions that involves picking your team? If everything the same would you just pick whatever?

how would you decide what to ban? (obviously pros would still target ban)

If A=B, does that mean each and every single game is based around what 1st pick feels like playing that day?

We'd play what we want, and ban who we don't want to fight; both without nearly as much backlash from random teamates.

We'd play what we enjoyed, and ban what you don't want to play against or key cornerstone champions for certain team comps.

However, that's even assuming that you're playing draft to begin with, despite blind pick being the much more played game type... and call me crazy, but i'd much rather have a chance of winning or losing any game based on how well i play, not on the average power of each team.

It basically cant because said 1st pick person will get counterpicked, and thats where the balance will break.

Perfect balance?

I would vary my pick based on who wants to play what. I primarily play Fighters, Tanks, and AD Assassins, so I'm happily flexible.

I would ban counters to champions on my team, or champions that would be strong VS our particular comp.

People would pick teams for a certain strategy; Teamfight, Poke & Siege, One-Three-One, Early Strength, Mid Strength, Late Strength, etc.

It doesn't necessarily mean entire teams will be decided by first pick. Just because the enemy locks in a tank first doesn't mean I won't play an Assassin - if it's perfectly balanced, I can assume they'll have squishies to assassinate.

Because if A and B have the same power budget, it doesn't mean they are identical, it just means they are equally effective in what they are designed to do.

This is also why teambuilding is a thing, because champs are far from being perfect who could do everything effectively.

That's the idea anyway.

Depends on what you mean by perfectly balanced.

The only way to actually achieve balance would be to make every character balanced would be to make them all functionally identical. If that happened then people would pick the ones that have visual stimuli that give them an advantage, such as champions with a lot of red and that are large and threatening.

If you mean balanced around a power budget then people would only play the hardest characters to counter and the counters to that champion.

If you mean having a perfect 50% win rate, then they would play the easiest champions to hit that 50% win rate with, or fruitlessly try to break that rate with a high skill cap champ.

Darius would be a melee carry that can replace an adc (hint: it's already possible), picked against immobile teams, AND if his team has tanks and ccs

Ashe picked against immobile bruisers that can't catch her Thresh generalist=can be first picked Vladimir damage amp=teamfight guy Karthus global pressure=picked if you want to win by 20 min with an early game comp Ivern picked to help juggernauts TahmKench mobile zhonya=lul assassins Braum living shield against champions like miss fortune and twitch Yasuo the true anti-mage Ezreal if riot makes his W not a joke, he would be picked to help a heavy AA team like with MasterYi or Jax

Unfortunately, unlike zhonyas, devoured teammates can die in kench's belly. Its funny when he devours a low hp teammate when I have the five stacks on them, i just spam laugh

Rock paper scissors is perfectly balanced, there's still a reason to pick one over the other. If League was perfectly balanced, then you would pick champs based off their interaction with your team, the enemy team, and whoever you're best at, rather than whoever is plainly overtuned.

If the game was perfectly balanced, there would still be counters and synergy, but in moderation. Picks matter, but no one champion crowds out another by stats alone.

Game can't be perfectly balanced. Balance has more to do with how people really feel than actual numbers. To give an example in my eyes players are more likely to tilt, play bad and then blame the champion when the champion has recently been nerfed. The difference in performance may be EXTREMELY small but people, when it's a nerf, will think it's big especially when it's a champion they play. The only place where balance might be perfect or able to reach such a state is in pro play.

I mean there will always be flavor of the month champs. It could be that champion(Q)=champion(W) but because champion(W) has a 30% play rate people WILL say they are broken.

By mere personal tastes.

I'd still pick AurelionSol and I'd still ban Fizz simply because I don't want to see him.

Who ever has the highest pickrate, probably still Lee Sin. If you ban the highest pick rate you have the best odds of hitting a player who plays that champ.
