PSA: If you're a laner, cover jungle entrances at the start of the game

A Basic Island·6/18/2017, 9:05:07 AM·133 votes·3,881 views

Just got out of a game where my bot lane let the enemy jungler start at my blue buff without anyone even knowing

When i got to blue buff i figured he had just cleared it after his red while i was covering a lane (yes my mid died before i could finish raptors>red). Boy was i surprised when i saw the respawn indicator pop up at about the same time as my red

This applies to everyone, not just laners.

I've always found it hard to understand how everyone copies the pro meta on everything from role selection to champion selection to item builds, but when it comes to the most basic components of gameplay the majority of players ignore the pros. Since when has a pro team ever sat in fountain for the first 20 seconds, rather than run out to cover a line across the map to spot any invade or group as 5 and go straight for an invade?

Why is it so hard to go to the bathroom before queuing and then be ready to start, rather than go to the bathroom during the loading screen?

The sad thing is, once you play for a while you start doing it too, lol.

What I dislike most is when the other solo laner just waits at their own turret. I can't cover all the top entrances by myself without using a ward! If I wait in the buff bush by myself and they approach from my blind spot, next thing I know I got an angry Warwick and Jax ready to bust my ass open.

What do they do in the first minute and a half? Jack off? They can still use one hand to navigate the mouse and position themself by an entrance.

This is true, but don't go too far up especially if they have hard engage (Blitz) or really good stick (Olaf)

But if I cover the invade, how will I protect my tower between the times of 00:00 and 01:30?!

Seriously this one thing tilts me so hard when I jungle. Watch the damn jungle entrance.

woodvsmurph6/18/2017, 5:11:56 PM3 votes

Yep - i main top and support with some jungle when i want to mix stuff up. One of the most tilting things is when teammates don't care enough to bother watching for invades early. Sitting at tower or setting up some cheese bush camp lvl 1 isn't really necessary - just watch the buff on your side of map or jg entrances at least to make sure enemy doesn't 4 or 5 man invade and grab an easy kill plus 3 buff your team. It's as bad as sitting in base because you had to: use the bathroom, smoke break, take dog for a walk, etc. Just do that BEFORE going into champ select - otherwise you are basically handing the enemy team a free kill or a bunch of free summoner spells or both by not being there to back your team up. Do you want your jungler to gank for YOU and help YOU out? Then don't do selfish lazy stuff that risks putting them way behind from the very start of the game.[zombie-brand-clap]

I made a video about how to help protect against invades by placing control wards at certain locations. While it wouldnt have helped you in this situation because it was at the beginning, it would help after the first back.

Its very important to for people to understand the match begins where people can start impacting the next several minutes, as far as gold per/min, starts as soon as you can leave the nexus. Where you go, what you do, what you can get away with all have an impact... you can choose to do nothing (go afk at tower till minions spawn) or prepare and ambush, invade, or steal an enemy camp. Many people just go afk at towers, and thats why the clever and bold take advantage and try to get ahead with invades.

That jg coverage video I mentioned. Helps reduce repeated invades, and ganks. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fBRyTLoXpTQ

*Edit: Also thank you for making an actual PSA instead of treating it like a meme and just stating an opinion or minor rant, upvote on that alone.

PSA : Stop asking the toplaner to ward your buff, the first ward in toplane is the most important thing for the laner, ty.

Often times it's really easy to get caught out sitting at jungle entrances alone, or even at 2/3.

Idk, lately I seem to get invaded every other game on blue side and someone blows flash or dies for free just covering the entrance. Now I sit in the brush behind red as you can spot an invade but they almost never check it.

i sware people where better about this S2 than they are now.

PSA, if people do this, do a 5 man invade of red buff to cheese an early kill.

it's either everyone covers entrances, or no one does, especially at bot lane; i've given away countless first bloods by being the lone walking ward at bottom jungle, and eventually learned to never cover the jungle entrance at least in my wood division elo

Top laners tend to take tanky runes and/or doran shield, so they are less likely to give away first blood tho

I always ward the red buff at 1:40 if I'm top side red side, I watch blue by standing in the bush and leave at 1:35 but walk through the river to make sure they aren't coming.

TheBigTittyKitty6/18/2017, 6:24:35 PM1 votes

Personally, I don't sit on an entrance because if we get invaded on i'll die due to numbers. And if we don't get invaded on then, Even better. I just stick a ward down either in my jungle or theirs.

This is a must in ranked. I can see casual players being more dgaf since it's a pretty rare occurrence overall but in Ranked it's worth it to make sure.

Yha i was playing AP shaco top and stole an enemy blue buff at the start of the game. Also enemy top and jungler WERE friends till that happened from what i understood in chat.

Dust16/19/2017, 2:03:50 PM1 votes

Since I main jg Im definitely hyper aware of invades. I ask my laners to ward my other buff at like 130. I dont mind if its taken, I would just like to know so I can go take theirs. Also, Ive gotten so used to invades I always pop a ward on the other side of the buff wall...has saved me countless times.

HaIlMonitor6/19/2017, 3:31:39 PM1 votes

I am a blue mage Jungler also, I feel your pain!

Nefas6/19/2017, 10:03:34 PM1 votes

There aren't many more annoying ways to start off a game than to have half the time guarding towers.
