What's being done about solo queue?

Yenn··21 votes·1,951 views

I've been Diamond I in every season, and Platinum before Diamond existed. At no point in the past has solo queue been in the sad state it's in right now.

I'm seeing ragers constantly. Prior to Season 4, I only saw someone legitimately rage in maybe 1/100 games, and I don't recall ever seeing it in season 1 or season 2. Now, it happens in probably 1/3 games.

People are leaving the game, trolling, or intentionally throwing at the drop of a hat. I can't count how many winning games were thrown because someone got angry and decided that someone else doesn't deserve to win.

The skill level is all over the board, but this is more of a side effect of the current state of balance. As a result, rank is pretty meaningless. Games no longer come down to which team plays better, but which team has the worst player.

On the old forums, this thread stayed up for months with no response, other than Lyte indirectly responding 'lol you see so much of this because you're toxic,' which we can tell is complete bullshit from the screenshots.

#This should not be happening at Diamond, let alone at all.

We've watched this problem get worse with every passing season, and nothing was done to intervene. Why isn't anything being done about this?

So, my posts showing someone intentionally feeding and telling my entire team to 'go kill ourselves' is deleted for 'reporting other players,' even though no names are visible. Afterwards, another post complaining about someone intentionally feeding and spamming homophobic slurs is deleted for 'don't be a jerk.'

What are we supposed to take away from this? We should be more accepting of people who intentionally feed and spam homophobic slurs at us?

You don't have to accept it. But you don't have to make a big show of it either. We all know it exists, and we all know how it goes down. You don't need to tell us your specific story. Otherwise, the boards would go crazy.

Yes, but it's drastically worse in preseason and is more problematic than mid-season ranked.

It has been worse than ever since of the end of the season. We saw this every other season towards the end, when we're in what is considered "preseason" people thinks that ranked doesn't matter and you can troll as much as you want and it doesn't do anything to you.

Try reporting them and moving on.

You mean like I've been doing for four seasons, with no results?

Intentionally feeding, rage quitting, and trolling in ranked should result in bans for a single occurrence. Currently, they don't.

Rock Rockburgh4 votes

How would you confirm that it actually happened, though? If you punished people who were reported once or twice, you'd have to check almost every account at least once a month! People report just to mess with their teammates, and that would only start happening more if reports were more heavily weighted.

If one or two reports are enough, you can't automate the system, for the reason mentioned above. That means you have to have a human checking every report, which would absolutely be a full-time job for multiple people. Riot probably can't really afford this, and it's kind of excessive.

On top of that, people have bad days. People get angry, go on tilt, start raging-- it happens. One or two bad days shouldn't result in any major penalties-- some chat restrictions, maybe, just to protect your teams until you calm down a bit, but nothing more. Definitely not a ban for one offense.

'Riot probably can't really afford this'

Did you even think before you posted that?

If someone says 'ur shit u dont deserve to win' and four people report them, it's pretty easy to see that they intentionally lost the game.

Chat restrictions are worthless. There's already a mute feature. We play ranked because we want competitive games, not because we want to hug it out and dance at mid.

Rock Rockburgh1 votes

Well, first off, most games probably won't have all four teammates reporting someone. I know I usually don't report when somebody tells me to-- people go a bit too far with it sometimes.

So if you go by "four people reported them for doing X in this game," then you'll have very few scenarios considered, and there probably won't be a significant change in the cases that Riot looks at. If it's four people across Y number of games, then it gets a little better, but now you've got a massive number of cases to consider.

There were, at one point, five million concurrent players. If we assume that 1% of these are reported often enough to trigger the system (we'll say four games out of eight) then you have fifty thousand cases every seven hours or so.

Now you have a choice either automate punishments and risk false positives (because there are people who report just to troll) or assign people to look at each case. Let's go totally crazy here and it takes only one second to review a case. There are 28,800 seconds in an eight-hour shift, which is just over half what you'd need to deal with the 50,000 cases.

So, if it only took one second per case (which is just not true) then you could do this with two people at a time, three shifts per day. I'd estimate it's closer to 30 seconds per case at a minimum, though, (since Riot can't be too heavy-handed and has to actually think about things,) so that works out to 1.5 million seconds. Now you need 52 people working each of three shifts in order to keep up-- and forgive me if I'm wrong, but I think that would at least double Riot's employee numbers.

Wizardhawk1 votes

Riot makes hundreds of millions a year, they definitely can't afford to pay a few people $20,000 a year for this kind of thing.

Rock Rockburgh1 votes

See my response to Yenn here for a general approximation on this. In short, though, they would probably need at least 50 people working this in each of three shifts (so a total of 150 employees) in order to keep up.

There are some assumptions made, but I think it's probably pretty reasonable.

They don't need to keep up with reports, they just need to prioritize by rating. The higher the rating, the more likely it is you'll see that player again. At something like Gold, it's pretty unlikely you'll encounter someone twice, because there are so many people there. Meanwhile, at Diamond I, you see the same people multiple times each day.

Explain to us under what scenario intentionally losing a ranked game should not result in a ban, please.

EffectFX2 votes

Because it should result in being removed from Ranked queues and forced into non-ranked play first, if the behavior continues then they can escalate it into a ban.

And ONLY if it can absolutely be proved that they're intentionally throwing the game.

Sure, ban them from ranked. That's fine. It's better than what's being done now, which seems to be nothing, unless they do it consistently for months at a time.

As it stands, Riot won't even acknowledge that people rage quitting games, intentionally losing, or trolling are problems worth looking at.

Last season alone, I've lost over 60 games to this behavior. If you just removed these games, not even turned them into wins, I would have been Master.

EffectFX1 votes

It sounds like you just need to take a break from League, I rarely have losses because of this behavior

Yenn1 votes

It doesn't matter, I have a thread documenting a ton of losses from this behavior.

I also just had a game where our mid lane suddenly left the game. We checked it's match history, and it's last three games have scores that are something like 0-13-0, 1-15-2, and 0-11-0.

We were winning by a large margin, this player wasn't behind, and nothing was said. It just left.

While in reality, players who have a tendency to behave like this should have been removed before they reached Diamond.

Highly unlikely. They can't be removed without being reported.

It's not unreasonable for Riot to ban all of the ones at high rating and work their way down.

It would be more than they're doing now, which seems to be absolutely nothing. They punish people who rage and trolls more harshly than they do the actual trolls.

Because they want to brag about their reform policy. The ones you are talking about will never reform and will continue to act the way they do, and banning them is bad for Riot's tribunal ego.

Our ADC just got angry and spent the entire game at the fountain spamming Taunt. This is the third time today.

Yeah this is the issue I'm seeing in general. People who don't give a damn about the other people they're playing with. What exactly should we do so that people follow the golden rule? Do unto others as you'd have them do unto you.

Yenn2 votes

Our last pick wanted Nidalee top. It didn't get top, so it picked Nidalee jungle and intentionally fed.

How can anyone justify not banning for this?

proud and bronze2 votes

how could they do anything about it? lets do the math.

LoL has over 30 million accounts and milliions of games are played every day. if someone is reported in just 1 million games per day and it takes a riot employee 1 minute to review and judge each chat log, that would take 1 million minutes per day. that means riot would have to employ 2000 workers 8 hours a day seven days a week just to read all the chat logs.

even then they would have to review the behavior in the game. someone saying 'im going to troll and feed' is not a punishable offense. only actually trolling and feeding would be punishable. so then they would have to watch all those games and determine if the behavior is worth a ban. 1 million games per day.

it is just not possible. it cant ever happen.

Sabre Blade1 votes

They won't even reset the rankings. I'm stuck in an endless hell with constant losses over and over cuz of ragers, afkers, and disconnectors. It's bullshiiit.

The reason is they dont give a crap about the trolling player... Riot themself is a huge troll and I think they welcome that type of behavior from their player base. take me for an example this is currently right now Example - master yi walks up to enemy team kills himself 30 + times, I call him a horrible player or sorry I said your FKIN BAD. He is still currently playing on his account with no issues. I have a 2 week ban, makes sense ....

They can care less how you troll, how many ppl you piss off and how many games you throw nothing will be done to you the troll. But for you who call out the troll, riot does not want you for you are the " TOXIC " one. The ruiner of worlds and riots $$ bills. You threaten to riot that the loser who has nothing better to do in life but waste your time in a game might leave riots game for another because he realises he is horrible and riot loses the 2$ he might spend on that troll teemo skin. Therefore, you are the one that is in need of punishment 2 week ban indeed, for riot is ever vigilante in watching out for anyone that is called a bad player.

Dedrius1 votes

Riot doesn't really care about SoloQueue anymore, if its not E$ports, they aren't interested.

Yenn1 votes

Another team full of people raging at each other and one person saying that they don't want to play and going AFK.

Yenn1 votes

Just had a last pick say it was going to feed if we didn't give it mid, so I let it have mid. It counter picked itself and went 0-7-0 in lane.

If I didn't give it mid, it would have intentionally fed. I gave it mid, it counter picked itself and still fed. Either way, it completely fucked over it's team. This shouldn't be acceptable behavior at Diamond.

Yenn1 votes

I just carried a player two games in a row as Cass top. I got it in a third game, and for no apparent reason, it demands top.

It locks in Shaco, builds full AP, and intentionally feeds. It ended the game 2-13-5, and three of the assists were the enemy team diving our fountain.

Yenn1 votes

Another person calls a lane, we work around them so they can get that lane, and they have Silver level mechanics/feed all game. Pretty awesome.

Yenn1 votes

Just had a Vlad permanently pushing to the enemy's second/third turret with no ward. It died five times in a row by doing this, and then started raging and calling us homosexuals for not somehow taking advantage of him pushing hard without vision.

This player shouldn't have been able to get this far. I've played with it in past seasons, and it hasn't improved, nor has it stopped raging. Yet it's still able to queue for ranked.

Yenn1 votes

Just had our ADC start a surrender vote and leave the game. The game was 13-17, and he was 0-3-1.

He rejoined 6 minutes later and started intentionally feeding. -22 LP.

Honestly, I haven't noticed any change since season 1. People cared less about the game. A lot more people are concerned with their rank now. People get sensitive when it comes to their egos. All in all people are just people.

I have all chat blocked. I only ping for team 99% of the time. Couldn't care less what any of them have to say anyway. Best thing I've done in this game.

Yenn1 votes

Just had a game where I picked support so my team mates could have the lanes they wanted. Their scores were 1-6-0, 1-4-0, and 1-5-1.

My Vayne was still doing okay, but the jungle decided he didn't want to play anymore and told us to surrender. I told him to play better instead of surrendering, because we have a stronger late game. He says 'or i can play better in my next game' and starts running into the enemy team.

Demoted to Diamond V. This isn't okay.

Yenn1 votes

The game is 38-24. Our Irelia just died by diving the enemy team with extremely low health, three times in a row. Someone said 'stop diving like that, we might throw.' It says 'you're the reason im afk' and leaves the game.

It's match history includes three other leaves in the past week.

Yenn1 votes

Our Lee Sin just bought two boots and spent the entire game pretending he was playing LoL for the first time.

Back to 0 LP Diamond V, with 9 losses I had zero control over, regardless of playing well and being ahead, and seven trolls.

Just encountered a player who has 6 games he AFK'd in the past 2 days. He was talking shit to our top lane all game, and then swapped lanes, died two times, and our Thresh said something like 'you really showed lux how its done' to him. He responded 'one more word and im afk;' this was the first thing anyone said to him, and he was shit talking all game. He died one more time, then spent the rest of the game walking back and forth at the fountain.

Yenn1 votes

So, how about that leaverbuster 2.0? Currently seeing a record number of 'leavers' who are just giving up and walking back and forth at the fountain.
