Smurfing is an example of Modern Society

How often have you seen an example of something that people know is wrong, they know its abuse other then what was intended and yet they fully take advantage of it anyway? This happens a lot in the modern world too, where we take advantage of something and we know its wrong but we are willing to turn a blind eye to it.

This is what smurfing is in this game. Smurfing ruins games for new or returning players, it creates a toxic environment and completely cheats the system that Riot puts in place to prevent this. Riot has never tried to actively say "Smurfing is cheating and we will treat it this way" and yet they clearly disagree with it, creating a matchmaking system that is supposed to "detect" smurfs but really does not.

As a result, I would say that 90% of new players are actual smurfs on alternate accounts or were previously banned. The automated banning system only compounded the problem, pushing all the toxicity to the bottom of the game, while the top groups of players stay clean.

When is Riot going to clean this up. Levelling a new account is a horrific experience and a real test of human patience which is why so many players quit and don't come back.

Or do they not simply care? Most players seem like this...

"If it does not effect me... why should I care?" attitude is great and all... (Great Community!) but is that really the best way to solve this problem?

League is and will likely always remain a free to play game. This means that banning smurfing will never be the right answer because players will just make a new free account. The only realistic answer is to group smurfs together like riot already does and make it so new players face other new players while smurfs face other smurfs. This means that for older players, leveling a new account will be torture since they are put into a smurfing queue in exchange for new players not having to deal with them.
