it's not that he's op, it's that his kit is over loaded and he just well rounded in just about everything. This causes him to edge out more niche picks due to his excessive reliability

AbIntro2 votes

He's useless late game unless hes rediculously fed. That's a weakness, right? *Also he was designed to be an early game dominant champion.

Thryale3 votes

he's not useless. Lee has plenty of utility to maintain usefulness late game despite having a dmg fall off. A shield + large aoe slow + instant move block make lee very formidable all game.

As for early game dominance, I don't have a problem with that being a feature of a champ, but Lee is probably one of the leading causes as to why the game has shifted so drastically to favor early dominance champions. If you can get your team a large enough advantage, you can end the game by the end of the mid game, that way, those late bloomers will never be able to shine in the late game.

Slaaneshine1 votes

So essentially, to beat Lee, you survive. Regardless of what people say he does fall off pretty hard, but he does so in favor of having easily one of the best early games in the game. He isn't useless later on, but in comparison to scaling characters like Kog'maw and Vladimir, it's far from equal.

Thryale1 votes

true, but in the current meta, the early game is really important, and that early to mid game transition is crucial to winning games atm.

The game has swung from (on average) single champs getting incredibly fed and hard carrying to (on average) the entire team accruing up enough advantages so that there is no one particular champ the enemy team can focus to make a comeback.

And lee excels at giving his team those global advantages, whether it be lane pressure and kills in early ganks, or objective control with fast clears and the mobility needed to get where he needs to go.

Basically this is why he is considered OP.

He has high base damage meaning he can build full tank and still kill people easily. He has high sustain in jungle due to passive. He has two dashes that can be spammed. He can displace a person easily.

That's it. Honestly, 2 spammable dashes is kind of OP in current gameplay. If they removed ward jumping from W he would be much more balanced but would be much less useful due to the fact that Qing into someone then ward hopping behind them and kicking them into your team is like, his only use once 40-50 minutes into game unless he goes 100% tanky, which very few Lee Sin's do. Also in my wood 7 experience, most Lee Sins are really egotistical. I've yet to meet a nice one. Also they are usually nooby so it's fun getting caught out and then getting kicked to safety by them.

His sustain is 5/10/15/20/25%. If he maxes that first he is doing no damage. If he maxes it second he falls off. Idk why people say he has high sustain. And ward hopping on someone reliant on dashes to get in and out is a necessity remove it and he will need straight numbers buffs or some kind of utility elsewhere perhaps even the return of his massive AS slow. I mean do you ever see Lee powerfarm and do well? Doesn't matter if he has 25% sustain if he runs in and can't even contribute damage when he isn't very tanky early.

Lee isn't that strong. He just is versatile. His kit covers a lot and the average good Lee will build tanky. The most damage I ever build seriously is a ravenous and a LW late game with a jung enchant.

Bear in mind that he also get's a shield to protect his actual health bar as he clears in the jungle along with that 5/10/15/20/25%. Also, note that it grants spellvamp which scales with his abilities and also grants him health for casting smite.

Honestly ward hopping mechanic is fine, but trinket ward hopping is the problem. If one wishes to ward hop as lee sin, there should be a penalty/cost to do so. It shouldn't be a zero gold cost to get free W dashes. Before the trinkets existed, Lee's mobility was considered balanced- the wards/sightstone costed gold, and the wards/sightstone took up inventory space that could have went into a much bigger item.

No-one is "very tanky early" (except maybe Volibear). That being said, Lee doesn't *need * tankiness to deal damage. His mobility let's him get in, burst and get out as needed.

Thing is its a 40 hp shield at lvl 1. Hardly anything to call strong. And he has no innate tank abilities in his kit. His trinket hop is only up once every about 90s. With trinket upgrade he has a sightstone. Idk what the problem is because every other champ can build it. He just benefits the most and wasting wards just to ward hop sacrifices vision.

His W isn't spammable and his Q can be dodged.

He also has some of the best ratios in the game.

Eedat1 votes

No he doesnt. People always look at his ratios and fail to realize that they're *** bonus*** AD ratios and not flat AD ratios

That means that the extra 60-70 base AD that most champions gain from level 1 to 18 dont increase the damage of Lee's abilities at all. Thats like Lee is operating at a full I.E. worth of AD less than a champ with flat AD scaling at level 18

Ult: Lee Sin buys 160 AD = 420 Damage

Lee Sin buys 160 AD but the scaling includes his base AD = 442-552 Damage

It is't that much of an decrease to put a "bonus AD" scaler on an ability. It barely deals much more damage to take the "bonus" part of it away!

So I say again that Lee Sin has some of the best ratios in the game.

Eedat1 votes

Where the hell are you getting your numbers? 70 AD at level 18 would:

add 63 damage to his sonic strike (.9 AD ratio) add 63 damage to his resonating strike (.9 AD ratio) add 70 damage to his tempest (1.0 AD ratio) add 140 damage to his ult (2.0 AD ratio)

So his full spell rotation loses 410 damage. If you are going to argue that 410 damage "isn't that much of a decrease" then I'm done. Ignorance is bliss as they say

It is a decrease, but what I'd rather see is the numbers going down in return for that "bonus" to be removed from them.

double dash, high sustain, high damage, execute, good utility, snowballs incredibly well, strong early ganks, even stronger 6 ganks, manaless.

synergizes really well with sightstone since it grants him his main gap closer and he can control the jungle.

low win rate across all tiers despite high popularity will continue to save him from the nerf hammer

KaisadiIIa6 votes

You are forgetting the fact that he will punish you the first little mistake you make, but he can mess up everything and you won't be able to punish him. That's extremely annoying to play against.

Eedat1 votes

high sustain? You mean the 5% lifesteal he gets from his level 1 W that he gets at level 3? Do you even know how to combo Lee Sin's clear? Because you dont even get the reactivate W for the lifesteal until the very end of his combo when the camp is mostly dead already. Have you even tried to play Lee in the Season 5 jungle? Do you even jungle at all? Wait, no need to answer that. I can just check your statistics. You don't.

How is lee op?

Lee Sin has an entire garage full of tools. He's pretty much always has a weakness in his opponents he can exploit, where the only real weakness you can exploit with him is trying to overpower him in that 1 thing you do really well.

Most champions simply don't have that many capabilities, leading them to do only few things well. By comparison Yorick pretty much just has a shovel to do anything - from raking leaves to cleaning out the pool, painting the fence to waxing a car, Lee Sin can run circles around him. Yorick only wins when it's a hole-digging contest. Odds are - it's not going to be a hole digging contest, and it's a lot harder to force 1 specific type of play than it is adapting to what's going on.

Being a jack of all trades, master of none is just extremely useful. It really limits counter-picking, making for a safe 1st~3rd pick in any picks/ban phase, which is a serious advantage when you consider a lot of champions do have fairly hard counters and lane match-ups.

A similar thing can be said about: Kayle Gnar Nidalee Elise Lulu Jayce All of which have been in a top 3 highest-priority spot for tournaments before.

Generally speaking, the most jack-of-all-trades champion in any given archetype is usually the one you see in pro-play as well. You're rarely going to see a fighter like Yorick that only does 1 thing alone (win lane, does nothing else), where seeing a fighter like Vi that's capable of doing pretty much everything any fighter can do is more common. At least in pro-play, as having no weaknesses your opponents can exploit, along with the tools to exploit your opponent's weaknesses, is generally a lot better than having a significant weakness and 1 weakness you can exploit.

Anyways - being able to go with the flow is why Lee is a significantly more popular pick at the pro level than most.

Crazy high base damage at all points in the game, crazy mobility, pretty good cc on top of that, 350 base movement speed for whatever reason, mixed damage with E which isn't much, but early on it really makes a difference, good sustain, extremely difficult to run away from, damn near impossible to kill, etc

Eedat3 votes

He's not OP. Hes actually pretty weak right now. Its just popular to circlejerk about how OP he is for upvotes. Thats it

YossarianSensei3 votes

He's not

He can't carry games, doesn't tank very well, doesn't do enough damage, and doesn't have enough CC

He's a jack of all trades but that's not what you want in solo queue.

Ship 0F Ducks2 votes

hes not op.....hes just good at dueling....most of his damage is single target, and if his single target abilities didn't hurt then he'll be completely useless.

I hate lee because of Riot's hypocritical policy

They nerfed Kha'Zix's q and r before World's, and the community cried that it was too much. Flash forward 3 months into World's they have the audacity to say "Kha'zix is getting the best of World's so we're gonna nerf him... AGAIN"

You know who was picked the most in World's? Kha'Zix

You know who had the lowest win rate? Kha'Zix

You know who was 2nd most picked? Lee Sin

You know who had the highest win rate? Lee sin

I hate, and I mean HATE how they FURTHER nerfed Kha'Zix's w cd AFTER World's while lee got off without anything. And now, Vi, J4 and Nidalee have nerfs on PBE, Lee gets off without anything.

He miraculously dodged every single nerf, and that pisses you off how hypocritical riot is.

That's because Lee just isn't that strong.

I bought LeeSin to answer this question myself. His kit is fun and taking anything out would be bad. I was never so dominant that I could 1 v 1 anyone but I could always escape. I mean always Escape. I get caught out and I just Q, or ward hop, or ult, or a combination. I don't even need to worry about missing skills cause, hey energy comes back quickly. His passive even gives back energy after using a skill.

Then when I was actually doing well I built 2 attack item, and was tanky due to sight stone and cleaver. This did not stop me from doing damage. I was able to spam my skills and get a few kills. I even lagged, pressed everything I had and when I reconnected I got 2 kills and ulted someone into baron pit.

Lee Sin is not a mega tank like Chogath or DrMundo . Nor can he take down towers like MasterYi , but unlike those champions he has no weakness. Unless you CC him then he will be able to kill and or get out. He is not the strongest but with no weakness to take advantage of, like a Fizz without his E or mana or Anivia without her passive or mana, so people call him OP.

Yulen Xoshxius1 votes

There is also a skill gap I am noticing with Lee Sin. I don't actually have a problem playing against him if it is a player that is not as skilled with him. The good Lees however are crazy to fight.

Burgee2 votes

He can counter jungle without any fear of being caught due to ward hop or Q to get away, and a slow to stop people from chasing.

His kit allows him to play really recklessly with zero consequence.

If he misses his Q, he can just ward hop to you and catch you with his slow.

If you catch him out he can kick you away, and ward hop the other way.

Is he super safe in teamfights? I guess not. Do teamfights hold much weight in solo queue? No they don't, coordination is lacking unless you're premade. It's picks and catching people out that wins games. If you have any competent lee, he's not going to get caught out, but he's really strong at catching someone else.

Poptart Evelynn2 votes

It's not that he is op it's that no one else has as much stuff in their kit to compete with lee.

Solidair31 votes

He's easier to deal with than he once was. It's a problem of overloading. He has surprisingly good scaling, lots of utility, and gap closers, so it's pretty natural to think he's OP. But honestly, his win rate isn'y very good, and many just aren't good with him, so I wouldn't say he's op, but he can be really irritating.

Immortal Strife1 votes

I don't think that he is currently OP, strong for sure and viable but not OP.

Flawless Fetus1 votes

He's not. He used to be. Awhile ago. He was strong, but not /to strong/ before they removed the AS slow on his E. Currently he's on the weaker side of balanced, but sheep will be sheep.

Also, a lot of people are butthurt that now you need to be a jungler to jungle. The fact that Janna/Teemo/Ez/Plenty of other champs can no longer survive in the jungle bothers people. In S4 you could soraka jungle just fine. Nowadays you need to play a jungler to jungle. Lee is a jungler, and atm people don't like those.

KaisadiIIa1 votes

He's not OP. He's extremely annoying and unfun to play against, though.

He's not...not even close...which is why he's not played a lot in Master/Challenger and nobody complains about him outside of Bronze/Silver for whatever reason.

Hawkefire1 votes

There are actually a lot of factors into why I consider Lee Sin overpowered.

First and foremost, his numbers. The amount of damage that Lee Sin can dish out is actually quite insane, and it gets even more insane if he actually itemizes damage (as in, building more like an assassin, instead of a bruiser). In fact, his burst is quite nearly on par with Talon's burst (the character with the #1 highest burst in the game), and he can dish it out almost as fast.

This is one of the reasons why I don't understand why people don't take Lee Sin midlane and just build him as an assassin, as he has pretty much the safety of zed, and does pretty much the same burst (I believe it is slightly less, if you want, I can show the math on it, but you would have to wait a bit), and he also has utility on top of that. Although, I do suppose that taking Lee Sin midlane does require a bit more skill (Lee Sin mid needs to hit his Q, if he sucks at landing his Q, then he will not win the lane) than taking Zed simply because of the way their respective kits work.

This is further compounded by the fact that even if he doesn't itemize much damage (as in, he builds more of a bruiser build), he still dishes out a fairly huge amount of damage, which is too much damage for your team to ignore him, but at the same time he is also too tanky for you to focus him, and too mobile to pin down (this aspect is lessened slightly lategame, but he is stil dealing enough damage that he is very threatening, but you are also unable to reliably focus him because he is both too tanky and too mobile).

Another reason why I feel that Lee Sin is overpowered is largely due to the counterplay associated with fighting him. A (good) Lee Sin is actually very hard to pin down and hit with skill shots, and it is very hard to catch a Lee Sin out of position, largely due to the sheer amount of mobility built into his kit, but it is also due to the amount of utility that is also present in his kit (a knockback that also knocks up enemies that are hit by the champion that was knocked back, and a potent aoe slow). Taking these factors into account basically means that Lee Sin always has the advantage, uless the Lee Sin player HIMSELF makes a mistake. This means that defeating Lee Sin relies on how good the enemy player is, but not really on how good you are at playing your champion (now, this doesn't mean that your skill-level at playing your champion doesn't play a factor in determining whether you can defeat that Lee Sin player, but it does mean that it is contributing significantly less then it would be if you were facing most other champions).

Because of reasons that the average boards user will never experience since it requires a really high elo

Chessburger1 votes

I think he's overrated at the moment. He was top of the top in S4 but right now with all the jungle nerfs and the warrior nerf, also considering next patches ciderhulk or whatever the items called I think he's in the most balanced spot a champ with a kit like that can be.

He's only reliable if you're high diamond or up imo where you can play it near his max potential.

Boards have been circle-jerking around lee for a long time, most of the time it was justified, right now (since the jungle changes) it isn't. His popularity even dropped in LCS by a huge margin. Even a slight nerf further will push him to around 42% winrate if it happens imo.

I do realize this is a really unpopular opinion right now. People are usually slow on the QQ train (hello bruiser fizz)
