Kled's laning phase is too punishing when played wrong

I feel like getting dismounted due to having a bad laning phase, getting ganked or losing a trade is way too punishing at the moment and sets kled way behind in farm. Once you lose Skarl farming is incredibly dificult since the pistols cd is so long and the only feasable ways to get your mount back is to either b or go ham and hope you can get Skarl back before your lanning opponent kills you. Just because of the way health pots sutain works I've been having trouble against matchups that kled should have an advantage on like Darius for example. The problem is once you lose your mount the opponent can back off, recup their health with 2 charges of corrupting potions and be on their merry way farming and pushing the lane into your torret. Menwhile your only mean of wave clear comes up every 20 seconds and your only way of trading to get the mount back (w) is spent on csing the pushing wave. Additionally if the enemy jungler camps you to make you lose your mount you lose all encoruagment to try and trade with your enemy laner.

I actually think once mid game comes if kled didn't suffer to much durring lane he is amazing with his engagements and the character's design and VO is aweasome. Just wish he didn't require to be played so exquisitly in the early game in order to be fun. What are your guy's thoughts

Wow, Kled has a weakness? No way!

Why would they make it easier to get his mount back in laning? He instantly gains loads of HP back if he places himself well in fights and can be a monster. The champ was designed to fight, not to retreat and play passive. So the options he has when he's out of combat are limited, for a reason. If he got his mount back every 10 seconds in lane his sustain would be crazy. When you lose your mount, play smart and farm near turret, landing q's periodically, auto attack when you can, call for ganks, etc etc. I don't get why Kled should have an advantage against a Darius, he has a bleed that can mess with your skaarl passive, and he's amazing in close combat being a stick bruiser with some bursty like moves. Darius weakness is anything ranged because he can get kited across the rift. Nobody says you can't buy pots either. Ask your jungler for a countergank if the jungler is camping you and can never get a kill, why wouldn't you exploit that a little more?

His pistol has 80% scaling so it does some pretty respectable damage and can get like what? 20 or 25% courage if you position it right?

First of, the reason kled counters darius is because Darius can execute kled while he is mounted, and if timed properly kled can also save himself from Darius' R by gaining back Skarl before he can be executed... its not a hard counter match up by any means, but the potential given by Kleds mechanics is definetly there, at least in theory. The thing is, you say "kled is build to keep fighting" but if kled messes up and can't fight, he becomes useless except for some meh cc on his Q and an ult that while great for a team engage, can be not very usefull if your team mates don't know how to use it ( this is the reason why tahm's ult was recently changed).

i'm not saying Kled shouldn't have weaknesses. Detering his aggresion early on and poking him to dismount it are to very valid weaknesses. The problem arrises when these windows of opportunity are so easilly accesible by the opponent that Kled cannot lane properly against a knowledgeable opponent. I'm not talking about removing Kled's weaknesses, I'm talking about making them less severe when the champion is put into a hard matchup or lossing by 2 kills. Keep in mind that a losing Kled might be better of going back to base to try to fight his opponent than actually getting the mount back by farming, specially since once dismounted he loses access to his full health bar and becomes an atractive target for ganks.

The main problem arrises from the fact that while dismounted if your opposing laner pushes the lane in, you HAVE to use your Q to farm, which makes it imposible to gain courage at a decent pase. I'm courious to do testing but from memory I recall having to farm 4 waves pasively in order to get skarl back. Keep in mind that if you are 2 kills downs jumping against your opponent if they have a hevy damaging ult is probably suicide

wanna know some other punishing laning phases? When a mage runs out of mana or ur a close range champ like Alistar and gets poked insanely because ur going against a ranged champ like Heimerdinger kled is invulnerable while dismounting and his gun thing can be used to escape when dismounted...and his health regain is too much..i think that stuff makes up for his bad laning

while there are some counters and thats natural to a game that works with different clases, what I'm talking about is the general mechanic of how kled plays, not specific match ups (although counter punish him even harder than other lanes). Moreover, mages running out of mana CAN be extremly punishing as well, which is why riot uses mana costs to lever laning balance ( ex: illaoi has to be awaare of her mana costs while in lane but not mid game). So yea what I'm saying is kleds ability to earn gold and experience in the ealy game can be extremly difficult when behind (which is a problem that all divers share) but kled is even more punished because of his weakened state. That kind of balance has nothing to do with ability to gain heaalth or not, since once he is behind he does not gain access to this ability. I'm just suggesting whether is worth analyzing the rate at which kled gains courage from farming as well as some other basic numbers such as health, cds, and the such, nothing else
