The role of support is a joke and has been ever since players began taking mages like Brand, Zyra, and Annie botlane. Now it's worse than ever with players taking Malzahar, Ziggs, Lissandra, and even Xerath botlane to abuse their heavy damage/poke. While most of these mages have minimal CC, they make up for it in sheer power because their kits don't REQUIRE a lot of AP to burst down squishy ADC's and real supports. Riot has decided so far to look the other way and provide nothing for the players who opt to play champions that were actually meant to be supports (except Janna who is the staple), in order to deal with this mage takeover. This, paired with the constant barrage of 4 man and 5 man ganks, it is absolute misery playing a real support trying to keep their adc alive and get them fed.

honestly LIssandra would probably be a pretty good support inherently anyway given she can lock a target down almost indefinitely and peel very well, not saying better than traditional sups but right now? probably.

Xerath with Varus would also be good, though honestly i don't feel Varus is too strong anyway.

Xerath has as much mobility as Zyra, minus the hug zoning ultimate however he can use it to roam damage from a long way out, he has a stun and lots of poke.

how do you go out of mana in two spells with lissandra? i can sustain her in lane for a long time, she has nice engage and disengage she doesn't need to use Q, just her W (root or is that E? can't remember off top of my head) to root in place, can use the claw to get in range for it and potentially at 6 an all-in engage, couple with jhins root and ultimate and the ghost blade rush for early game pops.....

i see Zyra for example has more utility in her zoning ultimate but other than that, not so much, also we have seen Syndra bot lane in the LCK.

my personal old-school favourite is Orianna support :) - she would have mana problems these days for a good chunk of the lane phase sadly.

Ziggs Ziggs is more common as an ap carry than a support, primarily because of two things.

Bot tower no longer has damage reduction for the first five minutes, meaning ziggs can more readily get turret first blood on his satchel charge, and,
The INSANE poke on his q early game. Most adcs can't handle it. (Unless you're Sivir )

I've tried Lissandra support, and it's mainly unreliable. She has to get close to land cc and unless you build her with full armor runes early she has no way of surviving. Her poke is shortrange and it hampers your carry's ability to farm.

Xerath Xerath on the other hand is a stellar support because of his reliable cc and high damage, all of which he can do at RANGE.

Honestly the shift in the meta is probably due to the buffs to healer supports like Soraka Sona Nami , which make them unbeatable even by their traditional counters, like Leona Blitzcrank

Except for the rare exception, Nautilus is often shit right now. He's supposed to be the anti-engage engage support, but I only ever see him succeed with weird full ap builds.

Ziggs This post is about supports not adc/apc Lissandra Agreed trash Xerath In what world is this slow moving projectile reliable cc, his spells are pretty telegraphed.

as I stated in the original post, players are just saying fuck real supporting with CC and utility and bringing mages with high burst/poke and little to no CC/utility. nobody wants to actually fucking support anymore because it doesn't deal damage. Take Bard against Brand, Zyra, Karma, or yes even Xerath and you get out traded so hard. it's hilarious. AND BARD IS RANGED. you get ten times the cancer when you take a champ such as Taric, Braum, or Alistar. When I started in Season 4 people actually fucking supported and left the cancer mages for top and mid. now you have mages playing it safe and just going bot and also refusing to build sighstone. joke.

ACTUAL supports are a joke. Bard, Alistar, Taric, etc. basically if your support doesn't deal damage then you get completely fucked by ranged mage supports. god forbid you take a melee support botlane against Zyra, Karma, Malazhar, or Brand. You and your adc will get poked out in no time. And if you're against a Caitlyn on top of that, good luck laning. I absolute cancer.
