Can Renekton get some tweaking?

Freeza with an I··5 votes·4,490 views

He's so anti-fun to play against. He has a metric shit-ton of healing due to Conq and his Q. Literally goes into a minion wave, presses Q, back to full health from half. His double dashes gives him a get out of jail free card and an easy all in. And his W's stun basically lets his entire combo go out on you with no counterplay. He's also one of the heavy Spear abusers. Could he PLEASE have some tweaking? Him and Jax are some of the most steamrolly champs on the planet that take literally no thoughts to play. I literally first timed Renekton against a counter and he's so ridiculously easy that there's no downsides to playing him. If he was a bit squishier it'd make sense, but right now he's basically a juggernaut with mobility.

Renekton abuses low elo laners because no one in low elo lanes properly and that is his strongest point in the game.

  • They let him free farm level 3 and rage despite him having arguably the weakest level 1 and 2 in the game in top lane. You can literally shut a renekton out of the game by all-inning them at level one because they are used to everyone being afraid and letting him free farm and will likely to need to blow his flash and points to get away. I do this with pretty high success rate of either a FB or summs + pots every single time I fight renekton.

  • They are afraid to force long engages because they get chunked even though renekton has no damage after his initial burst in lane. This means even if renekton just chunked half your health, he has NOTHING left, why are you running?

  • They forget his ult gives HP and go for extremely bad fights.

  • No one builds early armor, they just rush their core items blindly.

  • People stay under tower way to long trying to greed for CS and end up getting dove when diving is literally his archetype.

  • People refuse to give up CS in top lane. Renekton will fall off, literally as long as you don't feed you will end up stronger than him. Losing those 5 minions isn't worth giving him a free kill which gives him a CS advantage anyway.

I get it, he's really annoying to play against but at the same time low elo renektons are allowed to win every lane for free because everyone just let's him get away with so much and he never get's punished. As well as the points above. Still annoying tho.

Edit: If they lightened up renektons early game, just know that means they would push his mid and late game stronger.

Awesome post, especial the first point. This should be posted in every renekton complaint thread. Renekton has really high cool downs early game, so if he wastes his e (17 sec cd) it should be an easy gank.

R0ses R Red1 votes

Pretty much. Another point worth noting is that it's actually quite easy to read Renekton and make choices accordingly. If he has no fury, you're free to bully him a bit. This bullying can keep him off the wave and help keep his fury low by extension. If he has like half fury, you can bait him into wasting the bar without losing much health. Then if he has a full bar and makes it clear that he doesn't want to use abilities on the wave, he's thirsty for a kill and will probably attack if you're in his reach. In that case you have 3 choices:

1: Bait him into thinking you're walking into range like an imbecile, then immediately get out of the reach of his dashes. This will lead to him dashing through the wave and easing up the freeze that he's likely to have. The wave will soon be in a safer spot.

2: Walk too far into his reach and fail to exit it. On most champions, you'll be forced to helplessly watch as he safely walks away, continues to run you down, or flat out kills you.

3: Just let it push on its own. You're likely to lose a lot of CS with this option, but Renekton isn't getting 300 just for you existing in addition to his CS advantage.

He is squishier tho, its why he falls off late game as he has to build more resistances to have the same survival as a juggernaut, renekton w/o kills is about as useful as tank teemo, just don't feed him when it's early and his dmg falls off

I had him pushed back all game, once he hits six he can dive no issue with no downside to him. Unless you're permaCC he wins

rush a tabi vs him, it cuts back his dmg dramatically, usually once he hits 9, w/o any kills his dmg plummets as his Q is his only viable base dmg in his kit, his W scales almost solely off his ad, his E doesn't do much in dmg, and his ult dmg is insignificant , the only way he scales well is if he is ahead

I did that as well :/ His damage with Conq negates it. And the stun helps him get all of Conq up.

Your really overestimating how much conq is actually doing, if it helps, typically his engages are telegraphed by E, meaning taking a champ with defensive abilites is also a good idea as you can pop them when he combos you and cut back his damage dramatically

He still needs some power removed. Spear, I heard at least, is getting some fixes in the preseason. But for Renekton even without it he still deals too much damage and has too much mobility.

Renekton is a mobile juggernaut which is stupid.

No.

Renekton is actually a combination of assassin levels of burst (thanks to lethality among other items in the shop) and almost the beefyness of a jugger. Real Juggers do quite the amount of damage, but they need a setup. Renek does NOT need a set up. He is no "mobile" jugger. He just jumps and insta-gives you his cooldowns.

There was a few comments some months ago about the Riven huh... curves let's say, and the sudden buffs to Renekton at that moment in our timeline. It doesn't take someone to be that smart to figure out how things work around here.

See the main weakness with renekton is his cooldowns, unlike juggernauts, after he blows everything, he has nothing for 6 seconds at least, during this time literally all he can do is auto attack darius has bleed, illoai has slam on a 2.5 second cd, aatrox Q has a 3 second CD, voli is AA reliant anyways and has his ult for extra dmg, to be completely honest, renekton has some of the worst sustained damage out of any diver, even vi/gnar typically have better sustained damage

I play renekton, there is a lot he can mess up, and w/o kills he feels like shit, on top of this, even with 40% CDR his cooldowns remain very long, the only problem with him rn is spear of shojin which is just a problematic item in general rn

Renekton needs no setup? Why is the rage bar mechanic a thing? Do you think that them giving him full rage bar damage without rage would have been better? Fury is their way to lock his damage behind a condition.

To unlock your full potential you must push the minion wave, or R for fury which, to be honest, nobody does. To say he needs no setup is simply delusional, have you even seen how pathetic Renekton's non-empowered W damage is? LOL

Saevum1 votes

You do realize that his ult gives him free fury? or are you delusional?

Not only that, pre 6, small trades give him way too much rage for the amount of damage he can unleash.

IF he is "gated" why does he have so much kill potential all early and mid game? get your facts right.

That's why I avoid the boards so much. That's why I avoid correcting people geez.

Next reply will be: "he is no top lane bully" argument incomig. lawl. the boards.

because late game he hits like a wet paper towel, most fighters/juggernauts/skirmishers have outscaled him by this point and most marksman/mages are too hard for him to get on top of, additionally he cant kill tanks, he's literally only a tanky stunbot at this point

Saevum1 votes

Yeah, sure. That's why we like to let a Renekton with ult active sit on top of the mid laner or the bot lane because he does no damage late game. He hits like a wet paper tower with SoS, tiamat, and sterak's. And he doesn't insta give you his cooldowns in 1.5 seconds with a tiamat active to make it look like he just shoved the lane.

if he's on top of your mid laner, then their out of position, also if he has that much dmg, why not focus him out when he dives in? he will pop rather quickly

He is a toplane bully. That is his niche. And are you saying that you use R as renekton to generate fury? Do you literally use your ult in lane to generate fury? By the way, using the wave to gain ragebar pushes the wave. That's unbelievable, right? And if he pushes the wave, you can either gank him or farm safely. But that's unheard of! We want to stand in place and autoattack a lane bully to death. Isn't that what toplane is? Another no-skill melee marksman lane? A bunch of hairy men swinging wet noodles at each other until one of them loses the sustain fight?

overexaggeration. Renekton only dives players that took bad trades with him. There is no situation, ever, where a Renekton will dive a full hp enemy player, when even or slightly ahead.

That doesn't make my argument incorrect. Sorry, try again. Unlike other shitposters in this board I'm actually willing to get some counter-arguments to why an early game champion should not have good early game damage.

ImTheJuggernauty3 votes

It is false though. Renekton often DOES dive people and dish out a full combo in lane when he is even or slightly ahead. He's not a passive champ in lane at all unless far behind already, or against a strong counter. His entire kit is meant as an initiator/dive kit during lane phase. He has the ability to get in, stun/combo burst, and then dash back out with very little retaliation from a good number of top laners.

So yeah, you exaggerated, or more like, completely lied. A renekton who is even or slightly ahead doesn't just sit around waiting all lane phase for the opponent to make a bad trade. Sure, a good renekton capitalizes on bad trades from his opponent. But he also looks for openings to go in and combo, even if the enemy laner hasn't done anything except misposition.

And nice try though, but labeling me a shit poster doesn't help you at all. It just makes you look arrogant and triggered.

By the way, I'm not making an argument that renekton is too strong or weak. I'm simply arguing that you're depiction of his trading patterns couldn't be more wrong, but your fragile ego couldn't handle being contradicted. For the record, I don't really believe that ren needs a nerf, you just assumed that.

So, let me give you a hypothetical situation. This Renekton gains fury, therefore he pushes lane. Therefore you farm safely and he is open to jungle ganks. He loses. He doesn't push the wave, so he doesn't gain rage, therefore has no kill pressure. He loses. So what exactly is the overpowered fact about him? The fact that you get Tryndamere'd by letting him freestack fury in the early game? YOU DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT trade with RENEKTON. His gimmick is short fights. Do you engage in long fights with Darius? If your answer is anything but no, you don't have a valid opinion on this topic.

And, by the way, I called myself a not-shitposter, did NOT call you a shitposter. Do not put words in my mouth That's one of the most pathetic ways to "win the crowd".

ImTheJuggernauty1 votes

My mistake on the shitposter interpretation, but to be honest you weren't very clear. It seemed implicit that you were calling me a shitposter, but I wasn't attempting to put words in your mouth.

And anyways, I, again, am not stating that renekton is OP. I have not made a single statement or implication that renekton is OP.

My entire point is that renekton LOVES to go in and dish combos on full hp lane opponents, even if he is even or only slightly ahead. The only times he wouldn't want to is if he is:

A: Very behind B: Way too low on HP C: Countered so hard that it would be a bad idea for him to jump in and dish a combo D: He's not good at execution and his lane opponent is simply better

If anything, you've put words in my mouth by insinuating TWICE now that I somehow think renekton is OP. I don't. Sure, SoS is a terrible item and he can abuse it, but I don't think renekton is OP.

And of course you wouldn't engage in long fights with a darius as Renekton, unless you are far enough ahead for it not to matter (trust me, as a darius I've been stomped by good renektons in some longer trades, simply because he was far enough ahead that I couldn't kill him over a 5-6 second period). What you will do as renekton is look for good moments to dash in, stun Q-W (or whatever the exact combo is) and dash back out quickly before darius can retaliate with any meaningful damage. Wash rinse and repeat once or twice, and either darius has to back or gets murdered. That's how a good renekton beats darius. If he can't execute it properly, then darius will retaliate and likely win the trade.

I literally pushed him away from his minion wave until he hit three, once he hit three his damage is so high early on that I instantly would look 60% of my health on a burst. Even at above half health under a tower, he has so many get out of jail free cards that he dived me by himself and got out with a decent chunk of health left.
