Is the new Malzahar worth picking up as a mid lane champ again?

After the recent changes in patch 7.11 how is our favorite void prophet doing in the mid lane?

Voidlings are real bad now because they are unbelievably slow and spawn next to you. They are only useful for pushing unopposed (or melee) lane or if you can pop them just before ulting a solo target. Q is a bit harder to hit, does a little more damage late, and lets you kite slightly better. If you can reliably get an E on your opponent and then hit them with a Q the damage is quite respectable midgame. Ult is a little better against one but is way worse if you get CCed out of it.

My opinion at the moment is that unless you have a unnatural love for Malz there is nothing he does that you can't get better and more reliably elsewhere.

I'd say he is pretty good.

Personally i have been goign with a item 1027 start for the better mana regain on E. Go back for item 3802 and then don't finish it til later. Rush item 3151 / item 3116 (which one you want first is up to you).

At level 6, provided you can reset your E properly with Q and Ulti, you can take down pretty much anyone you need to.

I've played against him twice, he did pretty good. Played kinda similarly to old Malzahar where majority of your damage comes from your ult.

If you didn't play him for his voidlings then go for it, he's got much better AP scalings now. Pushing also seems to be much better now.
