pretty sure (like 80%) its based on the highest mmr of the two, but i wouldn't mind confirmation.

As a duo you are rated slightly above your real average MMR. Which means your opponents will have a slightly higher MMR than you have to match that on equal levels. Premates are considered to have the better organisation and therefore an advantage.
