Aatrox Design Contradictions
His passive and W imply he wants to be a sustained damage fighter. BUT, his CC is extremely telegraphed and is on a long cooldown, so he cannot stick to people to sustain a fight, which in turn also costs him his defensive capacities.
His W Heal restores health, so obviously you'd want to choose the heal option to improve his longevity in fights. BUT, he needs to use his non-heal W to get his passive, or he loses thousands of gold worth of stat efficiency.
His ultimate passive giving him more Bloodwell suggests he wants to dive in to instantly get his passive. BUT, he's highly prove to getting kited and/or bursted down, so he doesn't really want to dive, he wants to skirmish.
His passive, synergy with AS, sustained damage, and skirmishing capacity suggests he wants to split push. BUT, his ultimate suggests he wants to teamfight.
His damage dealing skills suggest he wants to build AS, on-hit and AD. BUT, he needs to build defense if he wants a prayer of getting his passive, and his poor base damage doesn't synergize with a bruiser build.
Riot wanted to make him less binary by expanding his build options. BUT, since even more of his power is now tied to his passive which is in turn contingent upon him surviving, he's even more binary and useless when behind.
Aatrox is supposed to get his defensive sustainability as long as he constantly pumps out DPS. BUT, since he's prone to getting kited, this means he's either overtuned and can accomplish this or is undertuned and fails utterly.
on Aatrox... not for nothing. And Aatrox don't need so much AD thanks to his passive and fervor (two ad item is enough).
