Why do people on boards hate Darius?

IsIsGankedParis··9 votes·6,524 views

He's not op, at best he gets fed in lane and attempts to end the game fast but can't do that well anymore(ult nerf). Every time I say he needs a buff or a change to his kit to be more healthy for both sides I get told he's fine or he doesn't deserve a buff because he's broken when fed.

Who isn't broken when fed?

Why has Riot given Darius nothing yet?

Why do people of boards hate Darius with an absolute burning passion?

I think the main reason is that there is nothing on Darius's kit that is dodgeable or meaningfully outplayed. When Darius is strong, you can't get near him without dying.

Likewise, there's very little Darius can do to outplay hit opponents. When he is weak, he can't get near his opponents.

I'm overstating both of these a bit, but that's more or less what's going on there I think. There's a lot of cool stuff about Darius, like his steeply ramping in-combat threat and a repeatable true-damage execution ultimate. But the way everything is currently set, he leads to a bit of a binary experience of "he just killed me over and over again and there was nothing I could do :(," or "Wait... there was a Darius in that game?"

these boards are just shit angry about CertainlyT's champs. Doesnt matter if its not OP, or even a fun champ to play. Say it was designed by Xypherous who also created OP champs and everyone loves it, but god forbid its certainlyT.

That's because CertainlyT has brought us more than one RIDICULOUSLY overloaded champion, and more than one near impossible to balance champion... Just my opinion on his champs of course, but yea...

Yep. He does do some interesting things, don't get me wrong, but that man holds the record for 'how many passives can i cram into half a kit'.

Sightless667 votes

I wouldn't exactly call Darius overloaded. He has a pretty standard amount of things in his kit. He's poorly designed if anything. I wouldn't call Zyra overloaded either, or poorly designed.

FyshinaTux1 votes

Keep going mate.

He also brought us Zed, Yasuo, Thresh, and Kalista...

Some would argue that Zyra is overloaded (to some extent), but not necessarily in an OP way, seriously though, how many Zyra's have you seen ult on top of her plants to give them bonus AS? Just sayin.

My reply (which you're replying to) was about someone saying that we hate CertainlyT, I merely said he brought us "more than one" laksjdf;lkjasdlf;kj;alskdjf;lakjsdf... Not that all of his a;lsdkjf;lkajsdf;lkjasd;flkjas;dflkj were OP/overloaded.

Sightless662 votes

seriously though, how many Zyra's have you seen ult on top of her plants to give them bonus AS? Just sayin.

Considering that every Zyra worth anything throws spells before her ult to get the plants out, I'm going to say the vast majority of them ult the plants for bonus attack speed. I mean, are you saying that they ult the plants and not the people the plants are attacking? Why would she do that when she could just ult the enemies too? I don't get what the heck you're asking.

Zyra isn't overloaded. She does the exact same thing in the exact same way as any other utility mage. The only slightly unique things about her are the plants and the passive, and the plants tend to just do the exact same thing as standard nukes, and usually in the exact same way too. If she's overloaded, then I'm going to say that everyone else except Annie, Warwick and Galio is too.

People circlejerk about the CertainlyT thing way too much. If Darius and Zyra are supposed to be overloaded now just because CertainlyT made them, I think the community needs to sit down and try to decide what exactly they want that term to mean.

FyshinaTux1 votes

I'm saying that 90% of Zyra's I see use it purely as a disengage or engage for the damage and potential knockup. i.e. most don't bother throwing out plants first.

Sightless662 votes

A. They suck. Tell this to whatever Zyra players you know loudly and often.

B. No, really, they suck. This is not a kit issue, it is a "players are bad" issue. It's like if people playing Galio used their W after their Q.

C. Even if points A and B weren't true, it wouldn't mean the kit would be overloaded. Having the ability to use abilities in slightly different situations for non-optimal rewards is not overloaded. It's a facet of the vast majority of kits. Overloaded requires that it function in many heavily different scenarios because of a wealth of mechanics.

D. There is also a short time when you can throw plants after the ult and get the buff. If people are doing this, then disregard points A and B.

I wouldn't exactly call Darius overloaded. He has a pretty standard amount of things in his kit. He's poorly designed if anything. I wouldn't call Zyra overloaded either, or poorly designed.

Dot that stacks, scales, and buffs his ulti, aoe that applies the dot, slow that doubles as an auto attack reset, hard cc with passive armor pen, and repeatable true damage ult, as Stashu said.

Compared to Zyra, who has: revenge passive, 3 aoe's (small circle, line, big circle) turrets, melee and ranged,, snare, and knock-up.

Pretty sure Darius has the most overloaded kit of all the champs we currently have, with perhaps not as big a gap compared to Zyra, but compared to, say, Maokai, he's got a shedload of stuff.

Sightless662 votes

Maokai: infinite sustain, unreal base attack speed, every ability nukes, has aoe percent damage reduction that also absorbs damage to nuke you with, has freaking untargetability, percent max hp damage, a targeted gapcloser, and a knockback.

I mean, holy wtf overloaded kit!? Maokai must be the most overloaded champion in the game.

Seriously though, you can make this argument about anyone. If you just list kit elements, you can make almost anyone sounds overloaded or OP. I

And seriously, if you are going to use that argument, pick someone other than Maokai. Maokai does most things well nowadays. He deals with all situations quite well. That's something I'd call overloaded much more readily than I would call Darius' kit overloaded.

Darius nukes at close range, and is worthless outside of it. His close range prowess is not due to any specific mechanics. It is due to numbers. Numerically, no one can outtrade him. The only differentiating mechanics he has are the ult and the pull, and that is not enough for me to call him overloaded. He does 1-2 things well and fails at most other things. That lack of potential is not what being overloaded is. Thresh and Yasuo are overloaded because when they are strong, they are the best at almost everything. Darius has many things he is terrible at, no matter how strong he is. His weaknesses are not lowered or mediated by any part of his kit.

Zyra has skillshot nukes and some CC. It's the same as Lux, Ori, or any other utility mage. There is nothing significant differentiating her from any of them. The turrets mean pretty much nothing different from any standard nuke. You use them in exactly the same way and they do exactly the same thing as any other nuke. That's not overloaded, it's a different way of doing the exact same thing. Overloaded means you have more options, not the same option wearing a slightly different hat.

CertainlyT has produced a few overloaded champions for sure. Zyra and Darius are not among them.

Gray Fanchon1 votes

Darius is overloaded? He's a short-range fighter with stacking DoTs and a true damage ultimate that interacts with said stacks. There isn't that much else to him, really.

Sightless661 votes

That's my point. Tell that to the other dude.

Gray Fanchon1 votes

I don't think he's gonna care much. :/ There's a lot of hurt butts on this forum, especially over CertainlyT's champions.

xypherous isn't still making champions xypherous champions all have reached points where they were kind of balanced and even when they're strong have identifiable weaknesses everything certainlyt touches becomes something that is a nightmare to play against and when they're good there's really nothing you can do about them. their kits are so far outside what 90% of most champs can do that you aren't even sure they're designed for this genre. zyra is this one weird exception of all the kits he made.

Then why is his rework constantly being pushed if this is the case? If he is a feast or famine type champ why has nothing been done besides nerf him yet?

redniwediS1 votes

It's because of how he is a feast or famine champ I think. The only thing that matters to a well played Darius is picks, and right now the meta does not favor Darius. He'll move up on the rework list if things swing back where Darius is played more.

PaperMache76 votes

Because there's champions who are in an even worse spot than him.

Pokeprof2 votes

To be fair, not every ability/ultimate in the game needs counter play, and Darius kinda needs to lack of counterplay in his kit as a trade off for everything else. He's a no sustain, no mobility, 'I die or you die' champion. That's one of the reasons I really enjoyed him when he came out was the fact that he's a very different kind of champion that the rest of the league were at the time, which were all about running and moving and being insane with being able to dodge stuff. Darius isn't like that, he isn't here to jump around like a monkey, he's here to fight and kill, or die trying.

I disagree with this. He is in fact, one of the best champs to be able to outplay, or get outplayed.

When you play against Darius you think, how can I bait out his hook, or his Q. Can I lead him into a careful jungle gank? I'm squishy. How much can I poke Darius before I have to dodge his grab. How much mana does Darius have left?

Compare that to pre-nerf Gnar.

Hmmm... I'm playing against Gnar. I cannot trade with him because his W is too strong. If I poke him down he'll just heal it back as Mega Gnar. I cannot set up a jungle gank because he'll bounce away. I can't all-in him because he can either bounce away, or just beat me anyways, because he does too much damage.

I guess I'll just hang back and out CS him, while dodging his boomerang. I'll outscale him, right?

It is not just people on the boards... most in general hate Darius because of his stupid strong lane strength that destroys most squishier opponents. The biggest offender though is his ult. Not only does it do true damage but it also scales incredibly well with attack damage and since he has a free built in armor pen passive in his kit trying to build armor against him feels pointless.

Since he already has an overpowering lane phase there really is no way to buff his late game without making him a major problem. If they nerfed his lane phase he would never be able to make it to the late game and be effective. To put it simply Darius has always been balancing on a knifes edge any change they try to make will either push his power over the top or bury him in the ground.

Darius is perfectly fine. I Love dunking kids in 3's n 5's with him .

Darius has high def, a grab stun and a dunk.

He's only a pain if you play aggressively, so of course we know good players would change their play styles instead of penting up frustration that they can't be baby butterflies.

I mean, they would clearly change their play styles instead of bashing their heads against the wall, yelling at their team and getting so angry they go onto the forums to ask for a nerf.

Right?

not true at all. He designed Fizz.. currently a complained about champ. Riven who after nerf after nerf isnt exactly weak. Orianna complained about and Strong. As I said its all because the current hate is on CertainlyT. Funny enough a few years ago it was on Xypherous for this same reason.

Garen was at release (and to some extent still is) "easy mode". His passive allows him to recover from bad trades faster than his opponent. Only one of his skills can "miss" (his spin), and even that is really easy to do well with. Plus he can build tanky and still deal respectable damage. And he had an execute. When he came out, he was overwhelmed by players who could suddenly do really well on him (because of how easy he was to play well), which often led to a lot of immature trash talking, misplaced ego, and so forth. On top of that, as I mentioned, he had an execute. And from what I've seen so far, champions with an execute style ability tend to attract players who play very selfishly. These are the type of people that whine about "he stole my kill" in a team game.

Darius arrived, and really was Garen Mk 2. With incredibly strong trading potential, and massive snowballing, he was a shoe-in for unskilled players to do well on. His bleed meant that against clueless opponents, you'd wind up steamrolling the lane, simply because they'd bleed a while, then trade again (and get stacks of bleed again), quickly leading them to be low health. Plus, even more so than Garen, he had a major execute mechanic. However, unlike Garen, his included a reset (further encouraging KS whining).

He's either going to wreck you or get wrecked by you. He dominates just about any melee and is dinner for just about any ranged champion. He needs a rework

SmokingPuffin1 votes

Darius is yet another annoying bruiser who wins or loses based on stats. You don't outplay Darius and Darius doesn't outplay you.

Needs a rework.
