Caitlyn is too unbalanced..

No ADC should have a good early and late game. She has no weakness. At least champions like Tristana have to scale up their range. She just gets it flat out and can win lane, and carry late. Her mid game is all based on staying in the back and taking towers so she is never really bad at any point of the game. She has reliable CC, escapes, and a point and click execute. These 3 things allow her to stay safe, while still being able to deal consistent damage. I would much prefer an ADC to have clear weaknesses but she doesn't. Her weakest point in the game is her mid game which can differ depending on how far ahead she is, which is most likely very far ahead due to her overwhelming lane phase. I would suggest nerfing her range a bit or let it scale like Tristanas.

For real? She offers nothing in a teamfight, no true damage, no cc, no aoe, nothing. If you have a decent assassin or tank focus her, she dies quickly. I agree her traps are cancer but she has clear weaknesses. She's a lane bully, that's about it. Any decent team cannot be defeated by a Cait alone.

She offers nothing in a teamfight? Are you serious?

Hes obviously kidding. If hes not then hes never seen a caitlyn before. She has an AoE Q and crowd control on her W and E.

Myrkrvaldyr6 votes

Right, because a decent team is gonna group together to get hit by her Q as if that were gonna one shot them. You call her W and E cc? Even if they technically are, they're not in the same category as stun, knockup, etc. even worse, they're not aoe. Caitlyn is not a teamfighting adc, there are better adcs than her. She's a lane bully, and lane bullies are supposed to be weak at teamfighting, Cait is.

koshkyra4 votes

is gonna group together to get hit by her Q

What AoE does that NOT describe? Dont contradict yourself.

Myrkrvaldyr4 votes

I'm not contradicting myself. OK, her Q is 'aoe' because it can hit several enemies at once. But its radius is very small, and what would be more important is an aoe nuke or aoe cc, she has neither. Cait is better off as a duelist, in teamfights she's pretty much useless if the enemy team is decent because it's easy to focus and kill her as she basically has no escapes. Her E is too short and isn't useful unless she lands it on you, but the slow lasts too little for her to actually escape if the assassin chasing her has enough mobility. For example, a decent Zed wouldn't give a damn about her E.

Tobias Brackner1 votes

Her AoE on Q does less dmg the more people it goes through and leaves her stationary for a long-ass time, giving them the time to close in on her.

The traps take time to arm, you need to not only have godlike targeting but also a hard read on where the opponent is going to be next. Also I'm pretty sure the traps have a shorter placement range than her AA so back to the "getting close" problem

Her net is also pretty trash. It protects her for a second but assuming she isn't snowballing hard they will still be able to close the distance unless you did some wall shenanigans.

Bârd1 votes

If you are actually using your Q in teamfights, you must not know anything about Cait.

Cait traps are "CC", but are completely unreliable.

Her net is technically CC, but using it for that purpose will get you killed. It's a good spell, but using it like that is horrible.

What makes her a decent teamfighter (and I'd say she's very average at this for an ADC) is the combo of her long range and E mobility plus her above average DPS with headshots. She's not at all a CC based ADC and her Q's very weak AOE when spells like Volley exist.

Tobias Brackner1 votes

She doesn't when you compare her to other Marksmen that want to teamfight.

her lifesteal in teamfights gives her the durability of a tank supports can easily peel her and let her auto for 400 hp her traps are cancer in teamfights she melts item 3085

Good early and good late, yes.

Her mid, however, is one of the worst out of any adc.

Her range is good, but she also has 325 MS and the second lowest base attack speed in the game. Her attack speed per level one of the best, but that doesn't kick in until late.

Her passive is shitty mid. She has little AD to back it up, no attack speed (items or steroids) to refresh it quickly, and she doesn't have the farming time to stack it up like in early game

Her Q is useless past early game, save for a bit of cheeky poke. Using it in a fight lowers your DPS.

Her W is decent, but only good for zoning off one area. If they force you to move (or just go pressure another tower) you can't do shit. In fights, they are only good if people are either already locked down or are completely blind and walk into them.

Her E is the only spell she has that is good at this stage. That said, it's still not great. The CD is long enough that she can still get dove on by mobile champions, she can't use it aggressively, and its decent damage/slow will largely go unused. It's single target nature also means that, if two people are going after the ADC, she can't do anything.

Her ult is shit midgame. Until she gets level 11, its base damage is trash, and its ratio doesn't matter until she gets items.

All she offers until she gets out of late game is trap zoning. She is decent at NOT fighting, but she is absolutely boned if she has to.

This is not even close to true. Her massive range lets her poke, and her w in baron pits and dragon pits is so useful. item 3085 gives her reliable AOE damage with her autoattacks. A good Caitlyn also uses ult often before teamfights to poke as well.

Her mid game doesn't have to be good. She can just stay passive and take turrets. Most ADCs scale into late game so even if she has a shitty mid game, the rest do too. She can match up with other ADCs save Draven in the mid game off of high poke alone. Her mid is not as bad as what people say. Early game, poke heavy champions usually have good mid games even if they weren't made for it.

Bârd2 votes

Her long range lets her poke in lane. If she tries to walk up and auto attack people (or even Q them against some comps) she is putting herself at huge risk for little reward; she might outrange the auto attacks of the enemy, but CC? Gapclosers? Artillery?

Cait does use her ult to poke a bit before fights, but that is a rank 1 ult with 1 AD item backing it. It doesn't do very much damage unless the target is extremely far behind.

Caits mid game doesn't even come close to the others. None offer simultaneously as little damage and utility as a Cait in midgame. Ashe Damage steroids on her passive and Q, massive utility on passive, E, and R, initiation on R. Corki Very high base damage on everything, and it's split damage so tanks haven't built against you yet. Draven A steroid on W and high base damage. Ezreal A steroid on his passive and W, a short CD escape, and some decent base damage. Graves Tank stats and some of the highest midgame burst in the game. Jhin A steroid (kinda) with his passive, high base damages, and initiation on his W and R. Jinx A steroid on her passive and Q, CC on her W and E, and decent base damages. Kalista Turns her support into Malphite, is the most mobile champion bar none, can secure objectives while asleep, decent damage even with one item. Kindred She has the utility of her ult and an assload of damage (if she won the early game). Lucian High base damage, a steroid on his passive, high mobility. MissFortune Steroid on W and an ult that will kill anyone it touches. Quinn High base damage, high map mobility, and some of the most annoying CC in the game. Sivir Steroid on W and one of the best ults in the game. Tristana Steroid on Q, high base damage, resetting mobility. Twitch Steroids on Q and R, decent base damage, stealth. Urgot High base damage, CC on W and R, initiation on R Varus High base damage, steroid on passive, CC on E and R, initiation on R. Vayne Steroid on Q and R, CC on E, repositioning tool on Q. Xayah AOE root, steroid on passive and W, a Fizz jump on R.

Meanwhile...

Caitlyn A "Steroid" on her passive, which does nothing until you have multiple AD items and doesn't happen often enough until you have multiple attack speed items, a Q that is dogshit outside of lane, Traps that can be seen and walked around. one mediocre escape on a very long CD, and an ult that is only really useful for last hitting a squishy.

If your game plan for mid game is "don't fight", then I've got bad news for you; Cait is the only ADC who wants to do this. Other AD's have a similar power dip, but all of them at least have something to keep them relevant. Cait has her traps, but those are made worthless by things like rotations, flanks, or having eyes.

Mannny2 votes

You simply stated the perks of every other ADC and left out Caitlyn's...

Caitlyn has the longest aa range of any champion in the game. Every other ADC has to wait for something to happen to begin fighting, Caitlyn gets to start early. Let me change your status on Caitlyn a bit;

Caitlyn Longest range of any ADC, efficient zoning tools and effective execution ability.

In the mid game it's all about skirmishes and objectives like Dragon and tier 1-2 towers. Who excels at that the best? Caitlyn. You act as if her traps can be easily countered when that just isn't true. She can completely block off any way to the dragon or baron, and force players to use the other way. She can create her own choke holds, and even has very good tower protection as well. Her mid game is probably better than 70% of the ADCs you stated.

Bârd3 votes

There are so many things wrong here I don't know where to begin, so I'll just go in order.

  1. Longest Range: Nope. Even just going by auto attacks, Jinx and Kog out range her by mid game.
  2. Every other ADC has to wait for something to happen: Nope. Ashe, Jhin, Kalista, Sivir, and Varus can all initiate, and any ADC with a long ranged spell can get in on the action from further than Cait can dream of.
  3. Cait excels in mid game skirmishes: Nope. Compared to any other carry, Cait brings nothing to the table in a mid game fight. Bottom tier DPS and unreliable CC. Her range helps a little, but it's just not enough.
  4. Traps can't be easily countered: lul. If she places them outside her tower, have the lane push towards you. If she places them closer to your tower, push the lane and step on the traps when she can't hit you. She can't block off the River. It's wide enough that she would have to space them wide enough for you to walk between them. If she blocks off the dragon/baron pit, and she actually thinks it will keep her team safe, she is in for a world of hurt when somebody flanks her team from over the wall.

You act like attack range is the be all end all.

She has long attack range, but other champions have longer ranges on things that actually matter.

Caitlyn "Ha! I am 650 units away, no one can stop me!" Nautilus Lissandra Gragas Elise Olaf "Ha, she thinks she's safe. Cute."

If Cait is in range to auto you, she is easily in range of everybody else. She may not be 100% immobile, but that net isn't enough to save her from the hordes of assassins, vanguards, and bruisers lining up for a piece of that ass.

Cait is a champion who is almost purely damage focused, and she doesn't do damage in mid game.

Mannny1 votes

Kog and Jinx have to use abilities to exceed Caitlyns range. That does not really count lol. Any other ADC that builds crit, might I add, almost all of them, will have a very bad time facing a mid game Caitlyn who got ahead on the early game with item 3085 item 3031 already completed on her. Even if she doesn't have the exact tools to be a mid game skirmishing god, she has the tools to take objectives for her team and if ahead, will do better in the mid game than the opposing ADC.

Altarious1 votes

But remember That Caitlyn can combo E,AA,W,AA,Q both Jinx and KogMaw if she finds them isolated and burst them down before they can do anything

Bârd1 votes

If Jinx or Kog are alone, they're already doing something wrong.

Caitlyn /Karma bot lane:

-It's ok, I didn't want to participate in the laning phase anyway.

To be honest I don't know why they gave her charged traps and guaranteed headshots. It's not like she wasn't a safe pick before that.

I'm a baddie at this game, buuuuut.

She strikes me as being better at sieging than at teamfights. Not that her teamfight is bad, as she does have decent damage output, but she has no reliable CC, no reliable escape, and her ult is all but useless in the fight itself (though it's great for cleaning up).

In short: in a fight, she's pretty much 'meh' in every regard besides solid (but not stellar) damage output. Pretty average. There are a lot of ADCs I'd much rather have for a 5v5.

She is, however, amazing at sieging, and an absolute bully in the laning phase.
