Non-Burst Mages Will Never Feel Satisfactory To Play And Here is Why

The current game of League of Legends right now comes down to a few golden rules, being:

  1. There are no half-way builds, it's either full tank or full glass cannon. Anything in between will offer too little of durability or damage to compete with ever scaling damage of the enemy team carries or the ever growing brick walls of the enemy team tanks.
  2. Crowd control is completely useless unless it is either a.) CONSTANTLY applied/thrown out or b.) point and click or extremely hard to dodge. This is due to the excessive amount of cheap movement speed available in the game with 40% movement speed boosts being handed out like candy to everyone and then everyone who doesn't build movement speed has a dash. Everyone who doesn't fall into either of those categories is doomed to purgatory.
  3. The mid-game will never be a point in the game that decides a match. The early game will either decide it by having carries or tanks snowball ahead and win the "Arms Race" that is DPS vs Durability, or the game will stall out into late game, upon which the game is decided by how good the compositions are in team fighting and simply outputting raw, hard to hinder DPS.
  4. Shielding and healing champions are the only ways to reliably prevent death and be hard to kill if you aren't winning the "Arms Race". The less of these champions you have in your composition, the more perfect your team has to play or else you will be punished harshly for critical errors and mispositioning.
  5. Burst champions ALWAYS must be AHEAD in the "Arms Race" to function. Otherwise, the enemy will immediately be healed, dash away, shielded, etc. upon your rotation ending and nothing will have happened. This also means you have to be able to perform your burst unexpectedly, meaning you also have to be winning the "vision game" unless your champion has a way of getting around vision, such as some insane dash or invisibility.

Now, ask yourself, how does a Mage that doesn't almost instantly kill the enemy fit into these rules? Hint: Not very much.

your #2 is flawed.

It should read, "crowd control is useless, unless you have a competant person using it at the right time, AND a competant team to follow up and take advantage of it"

because you dont understand this basic league concept, the rest of your post isnt worth reading.

That's the most obvious statement I've ever heard. Let me simplify what you just said:

"What you do is useless if you or your team is bad."

Thanks Captain Obvious. Tell me some more about how something is useless when used poorly.

Yeah I forgot where one bad idea or statement ruins the rest. Good job being a closed minded idiot.

This is very true.

I never understood visage and non sorc shoes oriented swain builds. Might as well just build swain full damage with of course some hp AP items otherwise you're fucking useless.

Vlad is really the only mage allowed to get away with one tank item while still having very relevant burst capabilities.

Cassiopeia lol Ryze "not satisfying" Malzahar

Oh, look, we have: a.) Cassiopeia, a weird hybrid that's unlike most other Mages in the game since she negates mobility b.) Ryze, a burst/combo Mage that is constantly in need of nerfs for pro play c.) Malzahar, a BURST MAGE who has point and click CC and passive shielding, although Malzahar has been nerfed a ton to the point to where he is basically a Catcher Support now instead and hardly even a Mage in general

You need to learn the difference between what burst mage and a DPS/DoT mage is.

Im sorry, but unless the enemy is a Tank or bulky Fighter, all of these Mages kill by bursting you down, upon which Ryze and Cass will slowly wittle them down if they aren't dead by the initial rotation. Ryze especially here basically just waits for his rotation to come off CD against in order to kill the enemy. A good enemy won't die by you just sitting there spamming spells as they come off cool down, which is what an actual DPS Mage does most of the time. Malz can't do that. Malz is burst or go home, or rely on someone else to kill your R target.

Of course, it's all about just maximizing damage or tankiness, that's why all the best midlane builds are

item 3089 item 3089 item 3089 item 3089 item 3907 item 3135

Thats not maximizing damage at all, as you are missing out on the damaging passives of multiple other items. Rabadon's build path also sets you behind in the "Arms Race" drastically. Nice try though.

On point number 5, this isn't team deathmatch. Who cares if you finish off the kill or not. If your target leaves, you have at least 20 seconds to take an objective. Stop pretending the team with the most kills will win 100% of the time and start using your time to take towers, dragons, barons, and buffs every time the enemy is absent rather than trying to chase them for 2 minutes attempting to finish them off in an unwarded jungle before you yourself get killed by getting closed in on.

I like how all these people are trying to take what I say and apply it to some extreme or twist it to teach me some lesson. Ok, dude, yeah, you DON'T kill the dude and he supposedly leaves. Except that's not what Point 5 is saying. Point 5 is what happens when the enemy has allies with them that reverse your burst or when the enemy life steals off of you after your rotation is done because it didn't kill them. The point of point 5 is that if you're a burst champion and you don't kill your target, the amount of healing and shielding and self-peel in this game allows the enemy to immediately recover from your burst if you aren't ahead of them.

Well I think this entire post is a total joke. Every champion has a purpose. Good luck taking any burst champion against a comp that looks like Garen Rammus Kayle TahmKench Vayne . Burst is better against squishies and DoT is better against tanks. Aurelion Sol would be a way better pick against the team I listed than Veigar ever would be, no matter how much of an arms race either one has going for them.

Heimerdinger Turrets for days. Only burst comes from ERW, which may nuke one enemy if all the rockets hit (otherwise, it is a meh MF ult).

Malzahar DoT on E, Adds that deal DPS on E and R targets with W, Q that deals meh damage alone but refreshes E timing, and an R that, although it won't kill by itself, will lock down someome long enough for your team to dive a squishy.

Singed Technically not a mage, but definitely builds AP and deals Magic DoT with poison trail.

Teemo Toxic Shot and Noxious Trap. More of Marksman Mage combo

Azir Same with Arise! autos, though some burst with WQE Shuffle.

Lots of examples, but basically anyone who can benefit from Liandry's or Nashor's qualifies as a Mage DPS.
