When you're playing "off-meta" champions....
At least come up with something that works on paper. Put some thought into it.
pocket picks like rumble jungle actually work because there are aspects to the champion that seem to say "hmm... maybe this champion could jungle. He has a slow, he has a move speed buff, he has big AoE abilities, and a long-range cc/nuke ultimate. This could work!"
Or what about Janna ADC? Hmm.... decent attack speed scaling... self-peel... a huge AD steroid... self-shields... just might work!
Playing things like urgot ADC just doesn't make sense. I know he used to be an adc, but he's not anymore. Not by any stretch. Nothing about his kit says "hey, play this champion adc... because he has piss poor attack speed scaling, needs to stay in long, drawn out skirmishes (which requires him to build semi-tanky), and has virtually no synergy with the modern adc build path"
or tryndamere mid as another example. At one point, AP tryndamere was OP as hell (Thank you Voyboy). That time is long, long gone. What about tryndamere makes you think "mid lane?" Is it....
-
the fact that he has no way to deal with long range poke?
-
the fact that he is highly susceptible to crowd control, which almost every mid laner has?
-
the fact that his typical build path leaves virtually no room for heavy-handed MR items?
I don't mind off meta picks, in fact - I love them. I think its one of the best ways to have fun in this game, and honestly I think it offers a strategic advantage via the element of surprise. I encourage more people to play off-meta things. Damn the meta, I say!
But jesus christ people, put some goddamn thought into it.
