Nerfing Rek'sai for the competitive scene

Jbels··6 votes·606 views

Is not fair to people who main her on live, where she sees nowhere near as much play. Rek'sai is not broken, she isn't even powerful. She just happens to function incredibly well as a "Pick me for every situation" jungler in the competitive scene right now. You've nerfed her damage, her base health, her tremor sense, her knock up radius, and now her base armor?

Constantly nerfing her for competitive play is going to hurt the Rek'sai mains a lot more than it's going to hurt the pro junglers who play her for no other reason than "She's safe"

Edit: Case in point ->http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/NAtrOfhl-is-rek-sai-being-nerfed-beyond-viability-for-the-sake-of-competitive-diversity

Game is balanced around high elo. If they balanced by low elo, lcs would be shit. If they made essentially two different games, one made for solo and one made for competitive, that would also be really bad for lcs.

I'm not asking for two games. I'm suggesting maybe Riot be a little kinder to champions that don't rock the boat, but simply ride it too often

The thing is that Rek'Sai does rock the boat in the competitive scene. Pretty much picked or banned in 100% of games

She does no such thing anywhere else

Then don't complain if LCS diversity is low. I'm not saying you do complain, I'm just saying don't.

LCS diversity has been low in more places than just the jungle. Gnar, Shen and Ekko were the only champions that saw any play in the most recent games as far as I saw in top lane. Jhin and Ashe for bot lane, with the occasional Lucian

Yes. But what you are proposing in this post is balancing around yoloQ, aka normal ranked. Naturally this lowers diversity in LCS

I suggested no such thing. But the future has to be considered. How many times does a champion get gutted for the sake of diversity before they are all replaced by similar champions that are gutted afterwards, and then their replacements. It keeps going on until Riot is forced to rework or buff a champion to the point of stupidity, they flare into existence for one or two more patches, and then go back to being unused. I understand this is cycle balancing. I understand this is a natural part of the game. What I don't understand is why instead of there being a centralized pick all the time, there aren't multiple champions with different reasons why you should pick them in LCS.

Ok. I just typed out a 500 word response and then accidentally clicked on the wrong button and canceled it all. fk.

yes you did. By talking about how balancing for LCS is unfair to live players you obviously mean that it should be balanced around live.

ow many times does a champion get gutted for the sake of diversity before they are all replaced by similar champions that are gutted afterwards

example?

This is not a natural part of the game, or at least it shouldn't be. this happens because riot tries to get a champ into LCS and the community clamors for nerfs instantly.

if you can't understand this then you can't comment on LCS balancing. i will try to explain.

niche is almost nonexistent in LCS. the most generalized and safe champions will always be picked because the niche ones are generally worthless because they have to be balanced for live. Azir will always trump most midlaners because he has everything a midlaner wants except high burst. He was and will be incredibly high pickrate in LCS unless he is completely dumpstered (or reworked). This makes him god tier in LCS. same thing goes for gragas, rek sai, etc.

So what you're saying is, Riot Pigeonholed the LCS meta into constantly being based around safe picks. Wouldn't it have been more interesting to the viewer of LCS if multiple different unsafe picks were played over safe picks? Doesn't the game get stale when nothing but safe pi- oh wait we all know where that's going. We can't really pretend LCS has some kind of balance highground over live when the players aren't really being forced out of their comfort zone in it

Riot didn't pigeonhole it, the meta did.

Yet in "high level play" (non LCS), she has a 47% winrate. And more nerfs are on the way. If you ask me, her "Fangs" have been filed flat as it is.

Here is what it comes down to.

If they don't completely gut Rek'Sai for SoloQ, she will without a doubt be 100% pick or ban for Worlds.

Rek'Sai falls into the same boat as champions like Azir Shen Kalista

If they get anywhere near viable for normal games, they will always be pick or ban in LCS. Next patch is the patch Worlds will be played on. Unless we want to see RekSai and Gragas literally every single game, they have to be nerfed

i like watching LCS.. but i like PLAYING the game more.

so if LCS ruins my champ.. im goign to be pissed

and I'm less likely to play the game if my champ got gutted from lcs

and i an less likely to watch LCS if im not playing the game.

so if you balance around LCS but IGNORE lower elo play .. I'm less likely to watch lcs

Personally, I think she's still really strong even after all these nerfs. We'll have to see how the newest ones affect her clear, but I still generally have success with her.
