If you needed a non-human character for the Victorious slot this year, you could have at least gone with Rek'sai. Would go a long way towards the Rek'sai mains getting over how much you butchered their champion for the sake of Pro Play.
I thought the victorious skin went to whoever made the biggest impact in pro play this year? That's why last year it was Sivir and the year before it was Morgana, and so on

What's wrong with that? It has nothing to do with gender, it's a champion that had a huge impact on the meta. By coincidence, it's just been 4 pretty ladies in a row (If you can call Elise pretty, I know 4chan could)

Riot has started the champion that get's the Victorius skin is the champion that had the most impact on the season... that being said maokai did not really have any impact this season, and even if he did it sure as shit was not more then rek'sai, nidalee, rumble, cass, syndra, ahri, etc. I mean im not going to lie I would like another Riven skin because she is a fun champion and a lot of people play her unlike maokai. Pickrate 19% > 2%

It has literally nothing to do with cash cow champions. It's an arbitrary choice for a champion to get this skin. Maokai did fuck all this season. Ekko alone did more than Maokai did, as did many other champions. If we're being real, it should have gone to Shen
Odinakos1 votesHe hovered around 50-80 pb rate at summer split depending on region. But regardless, there are at least 10 champs that are not junglers or supports (that already got 2 each) that had more influence this season. I hate ekko with passion but i also beleive he is the best candidate.
Edit: I woult rank (and really love) Karma as first but she is support. And i encourage diversity for skins.

The whole meaning of the victorious skin is to give it to a champion that was popular the entire season. Soo... no one complained about having it on a popular champion. That only goes for the skins you buy. Stop sucking riot's dick. How are they making money off of a free skin? Ekko, Gragas, Graves, Shen, Lucian, Reksai and so many more could've gotten it. But they give it to some bullshit nobody plays.

dunkeroni2 votesIt's whoever makes the most impact on pro play near the beginning of the season. The mid-season competitions are sort of a later deadline for when they need to finish deciding on it so they can go ahead and make the skin.
Also, they probably decided on Maokai since they knew Ivern was coming out, and they didn't want Maokai to be the "old tree champion" that nobody plays.

Where as in season 3, we got Victorious Elise as her first skin after release causing people to rage afterwards when she had no other skins outside of Death blossom and thus Riot said that would never happen again.
So Maokai having this, isn't a bad thing, even though there are plenty of others that could fit into that as well, but he'll still have plenty of options for the people that do not receive the skin.

Elise had to wait until Blood Moon to actually get a second skin since only 50% of the ranked player base had her only other available skin.

I suppose that the first few skins of each champion are also the best selling ones. So when they have to give a skin for free, it makes sense from a business standpoint to put it on a champ with a lot of skins, one that's already milked out.

GreenLore1 votesLook back at season 3,when Elise got the victorious skin and elise-fans were furious about elises second skin being limited and missable. The same would have happened with rek'sai,because pretty much every rek'sai-fan who isn't gold would miss out on a skin for the champ.
Thats why it makes more sense to give the victorious skin to someone who has already a lot of skins.
