I came back to this game, why are low AD champions like mages allowed to destroy towers so quickly?

What's going on with balance? Does it really matter if a character is AD or AP anymore?

Mostly because it makes ADCs the only champs that can take towers if AP cant deal damage to towers. Also makes solo lane mages unable to push effectively if you take say vlad top.

So that your team comp isn't limited by the fact that you always need specific types of champions to do damage to towers.

Towers now take 100% base AD + 60% AP magic damage from champions who have a lot of AP. Before, it was 100% base AD + 40% AP physical damage, then it became 100% base AD physical + 50% AP magic damage, and then it became what it is today.

I enjoy watching Diana melt towers.

Autos on towers can do AP damage, if you have more ap than you do AD.

AD still does more damage early to kill towers (apart from some), but late game AP chunks pretty well as well.

Welcome to the League of Rapid Fire.

That's the state of ranked. I can't even play my champion animations to do skills anymore.

Auto's on towers have always deal a large portion of your AP to towers -- it's just been increased slightly recently, as an attempt to open up team comp possibilities beyond "I need a high AD character to threaten towers."
