Darius is strong in the tank meta as he can get in range and stick with the tanks.

But he isn't being picked at ALL.

Why?

He has true damage and armor pen, he shreds tanks by himself.

People aren't picking hyper mobile champs, except for mid lane, so Darius excels.

But he isn't being picked because he needs small buffs to be used in a meta where he EXCELS AT.

Isn't it wrong a champ that is strong in a Bruiser/Tank meta STILL have a low pick rate?

He needs small buffs to actually be used in a meta made for him to counter, like Trundle.

probably because hes pretty easy to kite, the only champion that i can think of who is easy would be singed

new black cleaver on darius and he wont be easy to kite, also ghostblade will help and i seriously dont know why we wont pick him...

Darius and Mordekaiser are in the same exact boat. Can beat the tank meta, but lack mobility and are thus easy to kite. In this meta, mobility is a huge plus, and their lack of gap-closers hurts them. It does not mean they aren't good picks, but it does mean they will be unpopular.

in the tank meta, you play anti-tank champions to counter them.

in example, %max/current HP dmg, poking comps, perma CC and kite.

Darius is an amazing peeler because of this. However he can't engage without righteous glory.

i pick Nasus to shred tanks with his ultimate %max HP magic dmg

I fail to see this as a balance issue and more to being about a comfort pick issue. Sure, Darius can shred tanks with true damage and armor penetration, but most people are choosing top laners that they feel stronger on. I'm seeing a lot of tanks coming out of the top lane to begin with, including Shyvana, Gnar, Sion, and Maokai. On top of that, some people have decided to take picks like Hecarim, Irelia, and even Lulu, champions that can place pressure on other lanes or contribute to a strong presence in late game team fights. I agree that Darius could be a strong pick, but I just see a lot more people choosing picks that have been in the Season 4 and Season 5 meta, as opposed to ones that they might have to dust off from long ago.

13th most picked top laner out of like 55 for plat+. Almost double the average play rate, seems fairly high to me. Yorick doesn't even have a single % play rate.

darius is better at duelling squishies than tanks imo.

the attack speed slow on his w can give him the upper hand against adc. and the ult on full stacks can usually take at least 1/3 of their health bar. with the increased amount of peel in the game, its hard to get in and really do a lot of damage to the backline.

however, it is true that there are things you can do to get in there and stick. item 3071 item 3800 item 3143

id say similar to garen, he excells in either 1v1 scenarios or skirmishes between your team and 2 or 3 opponents.

youre not going to be able to take the focus of an entire team, but you might be able to 2v3 with darius. so if you can force the enemy team into small skirmishes, instead of full on teamfights, you should come out ahead.
