So BotRK Is Kind Of Missing A Proper Purpose - Let's Collect Ideas

So, what is the best use for BotRK?

Is it an on-hit item? Yes kinda, it deals 6% of the target's current health on-hit and has 40% attack speed. But then again, the 10% lifesteal is kind of useless on on-hit champions like Shyvana because it does not work on on-hits. Plus they'd rather have more attack speed than the 25 AD. Compare that to Bloodrazor, which has a better on-hit with 4% of the enemy's max health rather than 6% of their current health. On top of that it gives you 10% more attack speed and is much more cheaper.

Is it there to give you a good mix of stats and effects for autohitting AD champions? Yes kinda, it has lifesteal and is one of the only few items that has both AD and attack speed on the same item. Plus the on-hit and the active are kinda handy. But just look at what Triforce can grant you instead. It also has the same amount of AD and attack speed AND health AND mana AND 20% CDR AND a move speed buff AND a sheen effect. If you want a jack of all trades item for autohitting AD champions you take Tri Force over BotRK any day.

Is it a good life steal item? A little bit yeah. But the on-hit and active are taking way too much of its cost and slot efficiency away to make the 10% life steal, 25 AD and 40% attack speed worth it to be a dedicated life steal item. Compare that to BT which has double the life steal and an enormous 75 AD, on top of the passive which also helps with surviving. Yet again, there are better options.

Is it designed to be an anti-tank item? Meh. The on-hit and active do have % damage, but armor screws it over massively and it got nerfed over time to the point where it's just not as good anymore. Compare that to Mortal Reminder and Van Dominik's. They cut off 45% of the extra armor your target pays for, one also almost halfs the healing of your target and when you want to do something against health stacking targets, you've got 15% extra damage on Van Dominik's instead of the % damage that gets countered by armor stacking way too easily.

So we need to come up with a proper purpose that another item does not already have and that covers an unfilled niche. There are a ton of things that can be thought of but I got an idea myself that I want to share with you guys.

Most on-hit champions are lacking proper sustain. Yeah sure, there's Warwick but he's trash and getting reworked. Shyvana does not have the sustain in her build that other bruisers like Trundle have and Yi does not have the sustain other simular skirmishers like Fiora and Yasuo ( ignoring the tank build that is going to get nerfed sooner or later anyway ) have. They don't profit as much from lifesteal because of the problem I mentioned above either. So here's my idea.

Blade of the Ruined King: 25 AD 40% attack speed 15 on - hit physical damage Unique Passive: 30% of all on-hit damage dealt is returned as health Unique Active: steals 25% of the target's movement speed for 3 seconds Same gold cost, same item path.

So what would change? First off, the active would not deal damage anymore and the passive % damage is also removed and replaced by the on-hit damage that recurve bow grants you. That's because the niches that the % damage is trying to fill are already covered better by other items, just as pointed out above. The active still stays because of the movement speed being pretty handy and not really being on a lot of other items.

The most important aspect of course is the new Unique Passive it would get. On-Hit lifesteal is something that is not in the game yet and it would offer a lot of new builds on top of that. There are still a few things to note though.

First thing is that all the current users of BotRK would not be hurt by the change all that much. Master Yi will heal more because of his E, Vayne will probably heal about the same because of the Q and W on-hit effects. Then there are a lot of maybe-cases on which the item will either be better than before or who just don't build it anymore anyway because of better item options. Jax, Trundle, Irelia etc. being examples for that.

Another thing to note is that the 30% might seem like too much at first but that it is probably justified, when Gunblade heals you for 15% of all damage dealt, and BT gives you 20% lifesteal which covers about 75%-95% of the total damage dealt by ADCs. You need to consider that on-hits make up about 50% of your damage in most cases. Ofc there are champions like Teemo and Kayle whose on-hits make up much more of their total damage but the first one is really weird atm anyway, the latter won't come into the range of the active a lot and both would rather have a lot of AP to help with their scaling, which balances it out again. And lastly it can be tested and adjusted over the patches anyway.

Let me know what you think about that or if you got interesting ideas yourselves.

Speaking from a marksman perspective, I think BoRK is fine where it is. It's a lifesteal item for people that can synergize with the attack speed or on-hits or when you are up against health stackers as an auto-attacker.

Its primary competitors are really Bloodthirster and Mercurial Scimitar. There's a threshold where it wins out vs Bloodthirster, not even accounting for the increased attack speed. It trades off raw lifesteal and the over-shield, but gives you more attack speed to trigger lifesteal from all your other AD/crit instead. Also, lifesteal is applied to the on-hit damage from BoRK.

Yes, armor reduces the damage, but there's no reason you can't build a Last Whipser item along with it. LDR would even boost the on-hit, since it's still physical damage.

Trinity Force costs an extra 333 gold, and the extra stats don't really synergize with marksmen as well as the on-every-hit damage and lifesteal.

So uh, your post is sort of invalidated by the fact that on-hit effects that deal physical damage DO benefit from lifesteal dude.

Only the Passive of BotrK itself, and only the 10%.
