I've gave up on improving | Low elo ranked

(This is a reply to: http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/miscellaneous/2iWnUfXb-low-elo-is-all-luck-small-rant ; a post I made today just what I thought of low elo)

I can't improve in this game in the way I want too, I want to get to gold-plat but the low elo of Bronze - Low silver is just pushing me back down. I try and play this game for fun, but I also want to improve, but after 3 seasons, I am still in the same spot where I was since low elo is what I said in the post above, luck and it sucks that I can't improve like I have in other games (CSGO for example, if you know ranks I went from Silver 4 to LE, I actually improved)

My problem is that with low elo is that other ranks, people have a clue on how to play and most losses are based on just being outplayed, but in low elo, you have a good chance at getting that person(s) who still don't know how to farm proper, or how to counter certain champions, or etc. And since this game has the snowball element of where a small problem just turns into an unstoppable mess which then turns into a loss. It makes it impossible when you got these sometimes clueless people giving away Lanes, turrets, dragons, everything and thinking of it so small and you end up losing not because you and your team got outplayed not based on skill, but on knowledge. I've lost 5 games in a row today and got demoted, 4 because of having 1 or more team mates who focused more on damaging an enemy champion than farming and not having a clue on what to do in certain situations and ended up having 57 minions at 20 minutes as an ADC or 0/5 at 10 minutes because they pushed way to far without vision or just flat out suck. (my 5th game was an actual fair game and I felt it we got out played rather than the 4 games where I got outplayed because I had a team mate with little knowledge).

So now I am Bronze 2, I'm going to continue to play ranked since I like a competitive environment with the game. I know I probably wont get anywhere unless I get blessed by the matchmaking gods and am placed with people who know how the game works, I'm not asking for super geniuses, just people who know how to play and know how important some things are, not the next Faker or some shit. I wont care much if I end up in Bronze 5, I'll just know that low elo ranked is all based on luck and not skill.

Note that for each noob/feeder/flamer/afk/etc. you get in your team, you averagely get to face 1.25 of them in the enemy team, unless... you are one of them.

I can see that you can be stuck in silver for 50 games while deserving high gold if you have a ton of badluck, but 3 seasons? Man, it's not your team holding you down.

I've took breaks from this game but I am going to sound like the typical bronze player, it's not me most of the times, it is someone slowing me down.

I dunno. I started Ranked for the first time this season, and was put into Bronze. I'm nearly Gold V now.

Some games ARE carryable single handedly. I've seen it done multiple times cough Riven Cough

In all seriousness though I know your feeling. It seems like just when you start to do good you get people that are flaming over the tiniest thing.

"Oh, you picked a champion I Like guess i'll tell you to fuck yourself then proceed to feed and flame you all game for picking mundo instead of garen"

"Oh, you didn't give me blue buff? Guess i'll start following you around trying to steal all camps"

Then it just starts to add up over time and eventually you're just stuck because you aren't getting people with common sense.

"Hey, my top and mid are ad..LET ME PICK AN AD JUNGLER :D" then whine when the game is 30 minutes in and that huge lead we had is gone because they all have FH and TM

In my opinion there should be an item in the shop for people who feel they've been completely ruined MMR wise by others. It should cost like 10-20k IP and it should completely erase your history of the season, but as a way of preventing abuse it should start you as a clean slate that season. No getting into gold+ just because you were last season or some easily abusable crap like that.

It should make you start as if it's your first time playing ranked. That way people could at least get another chance

That'd just cause corruption ; the IP item. But yeah low elo is also just a bunch of sensitive people who will resort to throwing a game cause they didn't get a kill.

judging by your match history, specifically taking your 1-3-20 soraka win for example, you have absolutely no map awareness. You bought a sightstone, but placed a grant total of 3 wards over a 25-minute game. You purchased one ward at 0:24 of the game, and sold it back to the shop to buy a sightstone and 3 mana potions at the 7:40 mark. The only reason you didn't feed this game was because their jungle wasn't very good at jungling. You CANNOT rely on your opponent to give you the match like this.

You were tied for fifth with Diana for 3 wards placed, and your adc (bless her soul) had the most wards placed with a total of 10.

So my tip for advancing would be to ward. Even if you stay blind to your minimap (I'm pretty mini-map blind but I stay in mid-silver to low gold.) your allies have a better chance at carrying you, if they can pay attention to them.

Edit: Bot warding: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-hAhNjagx5s Mid warding: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CuUArQ512xo Top warding: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oYazTrVMjPE

Wards cannot see through walls, so give a little thought to where you want vision when placing one. The smallest change can let you see much further down a walking path, or see down a walking path all together while seeing what you would've before.

Your cursor will turn GREEN when you're about to place it in a bush. it will remain uncolored for outside of a bush. This is great for placing it right at the edge of a bush, so you can see the furthest distance while remaining in a bush.

My supporting skill is lack luster, I hate supporting and I know I suck at it. I am terrible at micro managing wards thus why I had so little. I like to main jungle and just any lane that isn't support is more my cup of tea.

Warding isn't a support-only duty, and now I really wish I had found a jng warding video from those guys to show you :P You should still place them, even if you can't keep an eye on them. At level 9 upgrade your yellow trinket and I bet you'll be able to place as many wards as your support. Probably more, since lack of warding is a problem in our elos.

Im in the same boat... Although im not that much better atm, maybe max silver 4. I get such bad team mates to the point I have toxic outbursts and thats why i'm on 14 day suspension atm. Keep going at it though. I started in bronze 5 and couldn't get out. Then i went to b4 and couldn't get out. After a while I went to b3, now im pretty close to making b2.

Zuil1 votes

Try and stay away from toxic outbursts, it just makes the slightly possible, impossible.

Yep i know. On my alternate account I have been playing on, Im trying my best to just barely talk at all and refrain from using an cursing.

just play easy champions and do the basics if you do that better than everyone you will start winning every game, ive went from bronze to diamond had a 20+ game win spree in bronze because they make so many mistakes that you can easily get fed and make them tilt/rage quit or just 1v5. Just keep learning watch pros play not random twitch garbage

Zuil1 votes

I wish I could have your luck. I can sometimes go on a spree and get fed, but it just takes one team mate to snowball the enemy team into an unstoppable force or even one toxic message to another player and everyone is toxic and playing worse and I end up losing.

If you're interested, I can watch some games of yours and throw you a few tips.

Zuil1 votes

Dude you could throw me all the tips in the world, but I wont get an overall skill boost by playing with better players. Thanks for the offer though.

Hey, I posted on your other thread. You have to learn from the tips. Not just read it, but apply the newly gained knowledge.

If you think climbing in low elo is based upon luck you are wrong. I used to think the same but now being in gold 4 I can without a doubt easily solo-carry a bronze game. The same thing can be said for silver games.

To be fair, this depends on what role you like to fill. If you're a support main, you're not carrying shit. If you're a tank main, you're not carrying shit. The 'carry yourself' motto only works if you actually play carries.

I actually made a post a while back about the "luck" factor in this game.

People will defend the idea that its not luck, that if you are good enough you can just climb. I challenged anyone to post a video where a plat smurf won games where their team fed / afked / or trolled... I got nothing.

My real point here is most people who get to plat are just getting better team draws than other people. Skill ofc plays a factor to winning a game. You can't just start the game and expect to win... somehow most people i get teamed with do not know that.

It also leads me to believe that people who are constantly getting paired with bad players are actually better than people who are getting more cooperative and competent teams more often.

or you could just play vs a plat player in lane and see exactly how much better players get as they advance elo, youre just as likely to have trolls on the other team as you are your own, over time, if youre good, you climb.

Well, people are in Bronze precisely because they lack that knowledge to play this game properly... what did you expect?

However if you do have that knowledge, it is up to you, when and where to abuse that knowledge to win games. But clearly, if 3 seasons are not enough for you to make any progress, then it's probably time to look in the mirror bro.

I have been amongst those ranks before and I completely agree that it's mostly luck-based at least in terms of the match-making if you are at all competent.

I was S1 last season, was placed in B3 this one. I'm S5 now, and...it's not fun. I could go on forever about how it makes zero sense to have a team game based on matching you with strangers that still grades your "rank" based also on how well they do despite the MMR being completely off-the-wall, and for some reason no individual ranking making any difference whether your team won or not (Titanfall pulled this off perfectly fine with "ranked requirements" every match, basically you had to perform a certain way and contribute to your team, improving over time, to rank up, even if your team lost)...But, uh, just gonna stop myself now.

But, yeah. It's like...Just to get back to S1 is painful. Seriously, the best I can do is /mute all a lot of the time, but it's hard not to get demoralized when you see a serious lack of team-play happening, and you just give up on begging people to stop pushing mid because it didn't work the first time and no we're not going to baron at around level 11 when respawn timers are so short they'll get to us long before the Ace is over....It's just...Ugh.

On the bright side, I know when I did well, and I know when I didn't. But it's not a lot of consolation, ultimately, when you're invariably one-fifth of the game, and can only help so much, and prevent your teammates from making the same poor decisions in the same game (or leaving, going afk, feeding intentionally, etc.), and then...Ungh.

It's just not as fun as it should be to pull a Batman and make the climb.
