GIVE JUNGLERS A WARNING WHEN THEY DONT HAVE SMITE SELECTED

Zuil··169 votes·4,930 views

It's more than aggravating when your jungler picks a champion then proceeds to AFK not knowing he doesn't have smite. Why isn't there a friendly little "Hey, smite is missing from your summoner spells ^.~" notice whenever a jungler DOESN'T have smite selected.

Yes this just happened to me, yes I am upset.

Well, to be fair it's just one of those things people should remember. Riot can't actually implement this. Not only are they unsure who the jungler is, I'm not sure people want to enforce a meta this strongly.

And for instance I can sometimes not end up fixing masteries. But the game shouldn't tell me- although I think the pre-game timer should be longer. I once took strength of the ages on Lux in a ranked game... I did lose that one, yep.

That's all we need is more tools for lazy and stupid people to make them more lazy and stupid.

I don't disagree that it's a very stupid mistake to make. At the same time I can see how you can queue up as a jungler, switch to smite, have someone dodge, requeue as jungler, then forget to take smite because you thought you already switched, but you didn't because summoners don't save when you requeue.

icedballs6 votes

This is the main point for me. It is not the person's fault completely, it is the client as well. If you get 5 dodges in a row, it keeps resetting the summoner spells. It is sad and THAT part should be fixed first. If you are basically brain dead from multiple dodges in a row (with people loving to dodge at the last second before the game loads...) and the client cant keep track of what summoner spells you picked 30 seconds ago, at this point I blame the client.

Yes you should remember to change your spells, but the client should also remember what you had set before a dodge.

I bet you are the type to see jungle without smite before they even select then rage about them not having smite. Sound good?

It's about personal responsibility that most of your generation has very little clue about. Sorry you hate truth.

I know this much, lazy and stupid people get real downvotey when you point out how they're lazy and stupid.

To avoid things like this I always adjust my summoners and masteries/runes after confirming my character selection. I never touch them till I have locked in my character, then I select summoners, and masteries/runes after. Even if I re que, immediately after locking in a character I select summoners (or check them if they are correct), then masteries/runes.

It isnt hard, but working off of a checklist isnt easy for many people (lazy and stupid ones). After all, so many accidental gun deaths every year because people assume their personal firearm was unloaded when it wasnt. Gun safety is easier when you follow a checklist of actions when handling a firearm, and it could mean life and death, yet people still cant manage it and kill themselves.

Were talking about managing an ability in a video game, we cant expect people to take it that seriously... now if only forgetting smite could somehow kill people like forgetting if your gun is loaded and not following a checklist.. then we could start weeding out those smite forgetters...

Yes, that is because people hate the truth. It don't matter what it is. It's about personal responsibility. Good for you that you are one of the few that still check themselves. The world would be a lot better place if people took responsibility for their own actions without asking for others to do it for them. But, that is what you get when you put lazy and stupid together.

Please don't use the "enforce a meta" excuse when the summoner spell is MADE FOR THEM AND CERTAIN BUFFS ONLY COME FROM SMITING CERTAIN CAMPS.

FioraWillCarry6 votes

The real problem is actually the fact that when you switch summoners in champ select and the lobby drops due to someone leaving and you get another one, the summoners revert which I think is an oversight on Riot's part because it remembers your selected runes and masteries. Forgetting smite is mostly caused when someone changes summoners in a champ select lobby and someone dodged. They get another lobby and it's off their mind because it naturally seems intuitive that the summoners selected from the last lobby would remain.

TLDR; Its a bug in the client.

KING 5HARK1 votes

Why dont you check runes, masteries and summoners after you lock in your champ? Why does it matter whether it seems intuitive or not, it takes AT MOST 20 seconds, do you need facebook/twitter/reddit/porn/whatever that desperately?

Dodges mate. I'm always doing something else when I'm in champ select and I guess most people do too. There's a high chance that the lobby would be dodged and the whole shit has to start right over. That's a lot of wasted time. Usually by the 3rd dodge I'm surfing the web only being aware so far as to lock in a ban or champ. If you ever had 5-6 dodges you would be frustrated at having to change back your summoners every single time. Chances are though you would forget to change them at some point.

KING 5HARK1 votes

These things happen to me too, yet I still manage to waste 3 seconds after locking in the champ for the 6th time. Its not hard and doesnt hurt anyone...Whats so important that a quick check is too much?

It's not about difficulty. If your in a champ select queue for a 5th time after 4 dodges, you kinda lose focus. You just want to lock in quickly and go back to watching Youtube or reading whatever Wikipedia article you were reading.

KING 5HARK1 votes

Well If youre in a rush to watch youtube videos then its you own fault and Riot shouldnt need to babysit. Its your own decision to not take part in the majority of champ select and instead half-ass your way through the pre game lobby. If you'd rather watch 4 seconds more of Brofrescos new video or actually give a shit about the game you're about to join then don't complain when you fuck up and don't ask riot to implement something thats not necessary at all if you'd actually pay attention to something. Multitasking is fine, doing two things halfway is not

Or Riot could fix the damn dodge issue in the first place. I do not see a need to drop an entire lobby simply because one person left. If I decided to pay full attention to pre game lobbies I could waste up to 1 hour of time doing nothing but waiting to ban/pick. You have any idea how bad it can get with dodges sometimes ?

Better yet, if you select jungle, have smite auto select! (in case no one has said it)

lIIllIlI1 votes

Some junglers don't necessarily need smite (Nunu) and how will it know to put it in the F or D key position? Also what about low level accounts that have not unlocked smite?

KING 5HARK1 votes

Nunu still needs smite for the Jungle item... Low level accounts without smite dont jungle in the first place

Meddler has commented this and are exploring adding this into the new client. However, if they add a feature like this into the current client, they have to rebuild it for the new client. As a result, they are holding off on adding this feature until the new client comes out.

Make sure you know what lane you are heading to, and have the appropriate summoner spells, masteries, and runes.

But some people will complain hard enough to be able to toggle it in settings.

Aids cuz League2 votes

No, because this shows a few things:

  1. You don't pay attention to the Champion Select, you are given anywhere from 3-6minutes to get everything set up. That is more than enough time to set up 2 mastery pages and switch summoners/runes.

  2. If you can't even do 1, then you shouldn't be playing this game because odds are you mess things up for others and don't pay enough attention to the game at hand.

  3. I will give you the benefit of the doubt and say this, no you shouldn't get a warning and no they shouldn't switch to smite for you, however if you forget smite, the enemy smite(s) should be half as effective capping at 500 true dmg instead of 100 against monsters.

KING 5HARK2 votes

however if you forget smite, the enemy smite(s) should be half as effective capping at 500 true dmg instead of 100 against monsters.

How did you come up with this? Punish the enemy for your own stupidity? Didnt think that through, eh?

Aids cuz League1 votes

Think about it logically, because you literally didnt pay attention for 6 minutes because of whatever reason, you literally punished your whole team for being stupid(Likely no dragons, barons, or rifts you have to go into either mid or top lane, both of which those laners need their gold). Not everyone should be punished for your stupidity. Halfing the enemy teams smite means a better chance at STEALING important things like Rift/Baron/Dragon. It doesnt really put them at a disadvantage because they are more likely prepared and they still have Smite, just at half effect damage. And it doesn't cut down on their gold/xp gain, however it does for you because without smite you earn less xp in the jungle now, but you deserved it for being unaware.

KING 5HARK1 votes

I'm not getting compensation for any of my teammates mistakes, why should I get compensation if my Jungler forgets to pick smite? The enemy Toplaner doesnt get half gold from minionsjust because mine cant lasthit. The enemy flash isnt half as far just because I chose to run ghost instead. The enemy Ignite doesnt do less damage because I ran barrier. Wh should smite be any different? It's also a problem who are used to smite values and dont think about it and it also hurts the enemies clear. There is NO reason to hurt the enemy jungler because yours is incompetent. You dont get compensation for being incompetent during game, why for something you did before? I tab out of champ select all the time, but I check beforehand whether or not I have everything set up. If you cant be bothered to do this its your own goddamn fault and nobody should suffer except you. How do you even get the idea of punishing the enemy team? This game should seriously stop babysitting idiots, hence we wouldnt have to put up with these half-thought-through-ideas at making it better... If YOU forget smit, YOU get punished, NOBODY else.

KING 5HARK2 votes

Why isn't there a friendly little "Hey, smite is missing from your summoner spells ^.~" notice

Because if youre 10 and you need babysitting from a video game because youre too dumb to think yourself, you have no place in this game

lIIllIlI3 votes

It's easy enough to forget, I don't understand why you're being so rude.

KING 5HARK1 votes

It really isnt easy to forget at all:

  • click accept
  • pick a champ
  • check runes/masteries/summoner spells

You have like 3 minutes for this shit which takes abou 20 seconds total. Stop acting like its som 200IQ phD-required bullshit, its a part of the game thats not hard unless you tab out for facebook or some other bullshit which you can frankly go to hell for imo. Do your parents also tell you everything 24/7 or why do you need babysitting in a game?

lIIllIlI1 votes

Sure it's easy enough when you're looking at it but what if you're playing dozens of matches back to back until three in the morning and you're about to go into a match and someone dodges at the last second and then it reverts your summoner spell positions and you subconsciously assume it's there only to facepalm once you've gotten into the match. I've been there before, does that make me an idiot? Probably. But I'm sure we've all been there once.

EWBS Mithilesh2 votes

every position has different sums. every champ has varying masteries and runes that could be taken. so if your position or champ changes, you have to take a look at that bottom panel. so these things could change from game to game. so who's fault is it when they aren't changed?

consequences for not paying attention doesn't end in video games.

lIIllIlI1 votes

He's not saying it's the game's fault, he just thinks it would be nice to have a feature implemented to make everyone's lives easier. Surely you've had a teammate forget smite before, wouldn't it be nice to avoid that in the future?

EWBS Mithilesh1 votes

if a team mate forgets smite, its his own fault and the team's fault for not checking sums.

so 5 people forgot smite not just one.

but im not gonna disagree with the fact that it would be nice to have something that would rmind or require smite if you have the jung position. ive forgotten smite in 2 out of 1900 games played. and those two games hurt like a bitch.

but seriously gotta lean to fucking pay attention.

lIIllIlI1 votes

True enough

MeleeNuke2 votes

IMO all they need to do is remember what summoner spell you picked before someone dodges. They do that for runes and masteries but summoner spells have a hard time remembering. That really messed me up countless times because I automatically assumed I had the right ones.

AwesomeChad2 votes

This is arguably one of the most crucial changes needed. Either give a warning for players in the jungle role or automatically set one of their summoner spells to smite (I personally would go as far to lock in the smite spell so players don't mistakenly change it out in a panic during the last 2 seconds of the timer).

dub the man1 votes

The thing is if you get smite and then in champion select someone leaves your summoner spells reset and you might not think of looking when the next game loads because you had previously selected it.
