8.4 is an incredible patch, tbh. Can we get more patches like these?

This is Riot Balance Team doing the shit I know they're capable of doing. Addressing player frustrations and attempting to shift the game back into a more enjoyable state. Please guys, do more patches of THIS quality.

-AP Itemization Overhaul -Top Lane was addressed -Bruisers are / will be addressed soon (PBE) -Rengar revert -Trist nerf to hold us over until 8.5 nerfs (PBE) -Twitch's typical execute nerfed (E) -Voli changes to hold over until a rework -Zoe nerfs (heavy) -Removed Extra Minion Damage (slightly slower/longer early laning) -Hitting tank supports lightly (hard engage/tanks is strong atm) -Solid Rune changes -Blast Cone tweak to help Top Lane and Laners in general -Duskblade passive damage reduced

Jungle still needs to be addressed, but I'm very very happy with what I'm seeing in this patch. Overall, it's the first patch in a long time that I felt adequately expressed the Balance Team's ability to tweak the game to be enjoyable for everyone.

Lets see how it actually plays before calling it an incredible patch.

It's incredible in the sense that the Balance Team is finally addressing a lot of things that makes SENSE rather than throw numbers and cooldowns here and there. It shows an attention to detail and an understanding that I honestly had believed they'd lost. It just restores my faith a bit is all.

... the new bruiser rune is a complete knee jerk reacton to some youtuber... no way is that making it to live

Hi Pink Leg Warmers

The new bruiser keystone has been in the works for awhile. This is just the most recent iteration making it onto the PBE. This is the second one Riot has made public, and you can be sure they made many of other ones that didn't see the public eye.

Please explain to me how making Zoe essentially unplayable makes sense? The champ is in the bottom 50% of performance and has a lower KDA than SUPPORT BRAND.

Meanwhile Rengar is now going back to one-shotting anyone from stealth at a detect range where you can't do anything about it.

On the bright side I will just go back to ruining bot lane with roaming Annie to get revenge for the death of Zoe.

It doesn’t make ZoE unplayable, it makes her closer to balanced. With her very low cool downs and her still fairly high damage, there’s incentive for people to continue to pick her.

Don’t say shit about Rengar when you clearly don’t understand shit.

Good for you

They Basically said they just threw out Zoe nerfs just to do and they will deal with it later. They didnt address why she is so frustrating to play against nor did they balance her in a way to be viable while not being a pain to lane against either. They also buffed baron and dragon in a game that already snowballs objectives enough. In what universe is this the balance team making sense?

They did... they addressed her E CDR and her Q burst alongside taking away TP from her W.

The baron buffs may be a little insane but the elder drake buffs are reasonable due to it being subsequent elder drakes. (Which the game should be pretty much decided by then)

Doesnt change anything, it just made her un-viable. She will still be frustrating to play against.

They literally in their patch notes said word for word " we expect Zoe to land on the weak side when 8.4 hits. " This means they know she will be weak but are too lazy to do proper tuning.

Followed by "But we'd rather hit as many frustration points as we can in one go and address power later, rather than continuing to draw the process out." Translation - We have a new champ rolling out and would rather dedicate our time on that so for now lets gut her and deal with it later.

Then the third and key point: "That's a lot of nerfs, and while Zoe is frustrating to play against, her win rate numbers aren't reassuring."

Lets break this down, Her win rate is not reassuring meaning that she is either not performing well overall or they are happy overall where she is WR wise before this upcoming major nerf. That means performance is not the issue, the issue is in the playstyle. That is still the same so basically her WR is just going to tank.

Now for the second part "Frustrating to play against". She is not going to suddenly feel less frustrating to play against because of Q,E change, removing tp and lowering numbers. Her core kit is still going to be frustrating and at 45% CRD you are not going to see a noticeable difference on E's CD. So that part didnt get addressed it. wanna know whats going to happen now? They removed another spell from minion drops meaning the increase chance of damage spells dropping and with the boost to AP scaling on W you will see more poke damage from W going out and actually being more frustrating to play against.

Overall they just nerfed her because they were too lazy to fix the actual problem with her and ppl are like "these are some good changes" when even Riot themselves basically admit that they are pretty much rush jobs they will fix later.

The While the Dragon changes are W/E the baron buff is just going to increase the snowball and increase the value of Baron to the point where nothing else matters really.

Doesnt matter if you or your team plays well if the losing side manages to win 1 team fight they can baron and end the game and if you are behind and the enemy gets baron you may as well ff now and with how fast the games have been going people are pretty much getting it as soon as its up so you won't even see an elder dragon anymore.

On Zoe, I will admit they probably overdid it. She had very strong self--peel, and crazy high damage if it landed. Now they finally tame the damage a bit, and they reduced the reliability of the peel cooldown. Before she was unapproachable, but now I expect there won't even be much threat to force fights, and her lategame is not strong enough to be non-threatening early. All I really wanted is the cooldown drop on bubble to disappear, because even if you survived her combo, the next combo came far too quickly and reliably.

The dragon and baron buffs are more geared toward late game. Its to prevent teams from turtling till 60 minutes. They want to have late game objectives have a larger impact

Azadethe4 votes

lmfao. You have no idea what they just did. We're about to isolate the Support role to only pro supports (meaning 80% of supports will drop to 40% win rates because they're poor players at laning without touching minions at all).

We're about to see 600+ move speed mages regularly; They will burst you and you can never catch them.

Grievous wounds is going to be a permanent affliction. meaning sustain champs (the best win rate supports, laners, juggernauts) are all about to get destroyed with almost permanent ease. There will be no good choice supports anymore except perhaps Blitzcrank because of his utility. Healers will be destroyed by any mid or top whose roaming, even if they are good players.

Yeah..... it's not actually a good patch. It's an OP one. Deathfire grasp is back and it has a 30% move speed bonus.

Just wait for the fallout and screaming when people realize the AP item rework will need tuning.

I'm just waiting for the smoke to settle and hoping they don't come for my Volibear.

-AP Itemization Overhaul -Top Lane was addressed -Bruisers are / will be addressed soon (PBE) -Rengar revert -Trist nerf to hold us over until 8.5 nerfs (PBE) -Twitch's typical execute nerfed (E) -Voli changes to hold over until a rework -Zoe nerfs (heavy) -Removed Extra Minion Damage (slightly slower/longer early laning) -Hitting tank supports lightly (hard engage/tanks is strong atm) -Solid Rune changes -Blast Cone tweak to help Top Lane and Laners in general -Duskblade passive damage reduced

-A patch of broken AP champs. Hooray. -Barely. They're addressing it, but slowly and cautiously. Good on them. -Rengar being broken? Hooray. Note that even before the rework, his mains were doing well. Since most people agree that the revert increased his power... -Nice ADC nerfs. Buffed Kog too. -Great job on Voli buffs -Zoe's being gutted. Even on PBE, they added a compensation buff. They know how crappy she's gonna be. -Minion dmg changes shouldn't have a major impact on the pacing of laning. Slow atk animation mages will have a fun time adapting to it, though. -Instead of nerfing the problematic tanks, let's nerf everyone that uses Relic Shield! -Rune changes are nice. -Blast Cone changes are nice. -Duskblade isn't in the patch notes

isnt this the patch that buffed the shit out of baron though? or did they go back on that?

Imperial Japan1 votes

I agree that the 8.4 patch notes were good but there was some very unnecessary/useless changes that happened.

  1. Twitch E nerf. The base AD nerf does jack shit.

  2. Trist R nerf. This is very uninsignificant and won’t change how oppressive she currently is. Especially because her kit isn’t based off her ult.

  3. Volibear changes. Right idea but I’m speculating that it isn’t enough to bring him back to viability or give any reason to pick him.

Also why do you say jungle to be changed or addressed? It’s not particularly oppressive and the role can be quite suppressed with just a few well placed wards...

hotarse1 votes

I think voli should've gotten a second activate on his q which is a short range leap that gives him wall hop mechanic. They could make it that the further he runs the bigger the leap to add some skill element to it. They could have then changed the free knockback on the E to only happen if he activates it immediately after a leap. This gives him the choice to either jump in and knock back or go for the single target flip. That kind of versatility would have put him in contention with meta junglers in competitive. I would also like to see them change the very selfish W execute changed to a different effect on champions. Make it like a mini zed ult that pops after 3 seconds, but pops immediately if auto'd by a team mate and counts as team mate's damage so that he wouldn't be taking so many kills. Kind of like a leona passive that does damage itself if no team mate procs it. That would keep him at a satisfying level and keep him relevant as a laner.

Like what you wanna address at jungle? The stupidty of laners that make ganking to easy?

They have to keep an eye out for this patch though before moving on. Especially because of the AP itemization. Things can go wrong and we would want them on a look out before moving forward to other things. But it's a nice patch gg riot. I'm still getting used to finding the best way to build my AP champs.
