Not having fun since 5.22

God Went MIA··50 votes·2,826 views

I seriously have not enjoyed 90% of my games after the big update and start of the preseason. The game is so much more unbalanced and snowbally. A lot of games will be over by 15 minutes as soon as 2 lanes get a lead, or the game will be completely controlled by a single overpowered champion. This game is just frustrating, boring, predictable, and half the time I die I feel like it has something to do with something they recently changed that is complete BS. Nothing was wrong with the game before 5.22. It was the biggest game in the world, players were loving it. It had a few issues, yes, but these weren't even what have been addressed. You changed tons of things that everyone thought were fine and balanced, and basically changed the games core and now it's going to take another year or two to get it balanced with this new system. I find that since the update champions are almost split into two or three tiers. There's the dozen or so that just completely dominate the game and piss everyone off, and then a ton that just feel completely useless and not remotely viable now. These are champs like Aatrox, taric, Rumble, Khazix and more. So many champs that were already viable got buffed and reworked recently, and these champs that were already slightly underpowered are now completely inferior to the FOTM champs. The fighter role entirely has been made inferior with the buffs of some slows and movement speeds of ADCs, as ADCs can kite them very easily and now half the mid's in the game can burst down an AD fighter before they deal enough damage. Champions that deal sustained damage as opposed to burst just feel inferior in general unless they are one of the unkillable tanks. The game is just super unbalanced right now and it makes half the games feel too easy or hopeless within 10 minutes, and it's not the way league should be or has been. This patch is looking like a huge mistake unless they can balance it a heck of a lot better than it is right now.

Am I the only one that doesn't notice too much of a difference from S5? I still play my AP champs cause I don't own many AD champs whatsoever, and though adc's have become a little more obnoxious, the new masteries etc didn't affect them as much as everyone claimed it would affect AP champs.

shrug Prob just me, I'm a filthy casual with this game xD

I relate. I main AP mages and yes adc is now a little bit more enjoyable with some of the new changes, but that hasn't swayed my play style. If games are ending in 15 minutes, maybe its beacuse they're bad. Lol

Tru tru. Most people are just freaking out over every little change. :/

Yeah, it happens every pre-season though. I don't want to sound like a negative nancy, but if your game is already getting stompy by 7~15 minutes in....maybe you and your team is just bad and it's not the meta, and vise-versa.

Its the same in master and up too. Watch some of the streams and every game is the same. One snowball in a lane turns into a massive one quick. Games might go to 25 but are over by 14 rather regulalry. If your games are still gong 35+ then that means your team doesnt know how to end with the lead theyve likely had for 15 minutes.

People said that ADCs are just going to be monsters and are going to ruin the game, but actually I think Riot handled the balancing of ADCs pretty well.

ADCs previously had the issue of not really being able to snowball that hard unlike AP Mids or Bruisers because their builds lacked defensive stats aside from the very last item they bought. (Imaqtpie, a renown Challenger ADC player said something along the lines of "10-2 as ADC and still feel useless."). So even if ADCs were hyperfed, basically anyone could still kill them if they didn't play out a duel or a teamfight with perfect positioning and timing. Though clearly ADCs or made to be really squishy people didn't like that even if you were hypercarrying a game you always required your team with you at all points of the game.

I think Riot handled the changes by giving ADC items more defensive stats/mechanics like Phantom Dancer, Firecannon Death's Dance, Tri-Force is stronger on ADCs, and even Sterak's Gage has proven to be a pretty good 5th or 6th item for ADCs. This seems insignificant but can actually help a lot. It's obvious that ADC items in general were nerfed in the category of AD aside from the one that give AS (Shiv for example) but all items built out of BF sword lost a considerable amount of AD given.

^ true.

The games these days are more like: "hey lets harass and follow that broken hero that some stupid kid is always picking cause they wont jeopardize their precious LP the entire game and ignore 9 other people."

dosent matter if the person is a carry really, it can be a broken tank/mage too. brand, darius, tahm, mundo, fiora, jax, yasuo et c.

skills and perception on the game is long gone, its more about getting the most stupid hero for the moment and win the game to climb urself on the ladder

alot of the champions are so left behind, i have several champions that i wanna try out due to interesting spells and buildup but i wont since they are trash compared to others.

its always the same heroes the same games all the time, nobody is creative anymore, its more: pick the most broken champion at this current patch or get rekt by the most broken hero

i cant even pick what i want (cassio <3) cause even if ur better then ur opponent, ur still getting rekt.

You can go with any champion, if you know what are you doing. And yolo q always was about either picking meta/fotm champions or one trick ponies.

The only way I've been having fun is by playing with friends and not giving any damns. Once I start to care I start to no longer have fun

This 100%. I went from daily ranked to avoiding anything but normals with friend. Ranked feels terrible between the aame old rank ragers and trolls now coupled witb still wonky balance and snowballing.

When i play normals for fun with friends i can enjoy it some but when i play more serious in ranked i end up logging out after maaaaybe 2 games and going to play something else. Which has turned into not even logging in now if friends arent on.

I completely agree. This is exactly how it feels. Right now the game is all about who can kill who the fastest and by that I mean If its sustained damage then ususally it can end up being a skill matchup unless its Malzahar or Swain. And Turrets are made of paper so no one cares about them. Even though turrets are supposed to protect you, you are trying to protect it way too often rather than the ladder. Why care about the turret if you can easily get kills with your 2/0 lead and dive the turret while taking damage from the enemy and four turret shots and still surviving and getting a double kill? If you have a small lead it is so easy to get kills. You can get even more kills to get you even more ahead and with the turrets being so weak they are pretty much useless. There is no point in going after a turret anymore when you can just farm kills for gold, push one lane, get nexus and win.... If you are sustained damage then you better not fight anyone who has any form of burst because burst >>>>>>> sustained damage.

Burst meta right now.

Meanwhile I'm having more games that last longer than 45 minutes than I am games that last 30 minutes. Plus this is literally the League of tanks, what are you even talking about?

That says more about you. Games are super easy to close out when you are ahead. There is no reason a game ahould go to 45 minutes right now unless you start playing with your feet half way through a game you are winning.

disregardable2 votes

The reason is that I play a vulnerable AD Carry that usually can't even 1v3 if she has 12 kills. I am very team reliant, and so I waste a lot of times on shit games.

Knoyle3 votes

After 12 Kills you should be the thing all the squishies want to avoid a fight with while the tanks are even hesitant to get close to you because of the armor penetration you have built to give their builds the middle finger.

disregardable3 votes

And they do. When there's an Alistar with me, I can 2v5 with 12 kills. But when I'm sitting there by myself against 3 champions? Lux binds me, Yi autoattacks me, Shen taunts me, and I'm dead. If my team doesn't engage to keep SOME of their abilities off of me, I'm going to be useless. That's what being an ADC is. I can't split push, and I can't **make ** my team fight. So I sit there, farm jungle, and wait for my team to do something or for the game to be over. Every game.

Keti3 votes

If you're farming jungle when you could be helping set up plays, you're part of the problem

Looking at these posts, most of the "hey preseason realistically isn't that bad" and "Riot actually did a good job" threads are downvoted. The boards are dominated by people who don't spend as much time in game as they do on boards, and in reality most of those votes are coming from gold and below :/

Don't know why you hate it, its amazing all about the outplays now to snowball , none of the ''they got 3 tanks we have 0 gg '' thank god anymore s6 looks alot more skill based cant wait

"A lot more skill based" riiiiight. This preseason has been nothing more than pick tbe champ that synergies the best with whatever the most op Keystone mastery this week is until it gets nerfed.

Dat skill.

SymbolicFear1 votes

Its definitely not about skill 90% of the time. Its almost always decided by who has the stronger champions. You wouldn't know cause I am guessing you play a lot of lee sin, who is massively overpowered now due to his recent buffs...

He outclasses every other champion now, and the proof is in everyone's match history. 18/20 games contains Lee Sin

fééd l0rd2 votes

I think we all got used to playing a way more forgiving game in s5. You could comeback easier and it was WAY harder to close out games. That does not mean that the new ''meta'' and preseason is boring. Predictions here were : OMG 5 marksman every game, no mages, tanks are screwed etc.

But tbh this is not the truth. The only marksman being over the top sometimes or often may be Vayne, tanks aren't as useful as in their prime time during s5 but it's fine this way, cause they were simply way too strong.

SymbolicFear1 votes

Juggernauts are still too prevalent and force you to play one top lane every single game cause nothing but juggernauts are allowed up there now.

Spacesuit Spiff2 votes

I felt this on 5.22, it seems to be a bit better now though. Ive actually routinely had games that go to 50 mins and end in comebacks now. The kill exp changes were huge.

Only speaking for norms though.

Flytrap2 votes

Sounds like a personal problem.

Sometimes a break is for the best.

Ryvaku2 votes

I disagree. I love it more now that games can end faster if you make mistakes in lane. No more instant recovery if you're behind unless a big mistake is made by the enemy team.

It feels more skill is involved to survive to all you TDM players that exist in league.

Suidox1 votes

yup and they downvoting anyone who doesnt agree with them xD

Pandemic Punch2 votes

I think they just need to revert the minion pushing.

chessman2 votes

i think whatever issue you're having is mostly in your head, b/c the game is still pretty much fundamentally the same, and if you enjoyed it before there's not really any good reason not to enjoy it now. yeah, some superficial stuff has changed, but it's still the same moba.

Mael bro1 votes

Because Assassins (the most qq'ed about class) is a viable option again.

SymbolicFear2 votes

No, because only AD assassin's are viable, and not only that, but way beyond being overpowered.

Mecha MaIphite1 votes

Just because they're competitively unviable doesn't mean you can't play them. I've stuck with Malphite for a long time, even when top was full of AP champs like Vlad. I still managed to do well and have fun, because I wouldn't be a Malphite player if I didn't even know how to play him in a meta that he wasn't necessarily enjoyable for most.

Except malphite is regarded as strong right now by many top laners. That would be like me saying i stuck with yasuo even though some dont think he is good right now. Im sorry what?

Let me break it down for you.

He wasn't always strong, and I played him regardless of whether he was or not.

Cassiopeia Exactly my sentiment, games are horrendous snowballfests with very little instances of comebacks actually happening. You're pretty much done for if you die even once as someone like Cass since you'll be pretty much useless for the rest of the game until the surrender vote kicks in.

When everyone gets along and plays pretty well and you're behind - Coming back feels like hard labour. If you're the only capable one, it feels like being a single parent to 4 kids. Generally, the feeling at a point is that we're going to lose, the question is how and when.

When everyone gets along and play pretty well and you're ahead - Watching the other team try to come back feels like being a hardened criminal bullying kids in an elementary schoolyard. If they manage to get rid of you, it's just time to go shopping. Generally, the feeling at a point is that we're going to win, the question is how and when.

Every loss feels like a spiral of despair. When a win isn't a result of a comeback, it just feels dirty.

In champ select, even with a decent comp. If the other side has 2 or more of the "Tier 1" and you have none. The game feels decided. Naturally, winning is possible and feels slightly better than the usual dirty feeling of winning, but the outcome is often based on the picks and the loss is amplified by the feeling of having no say.

Banning feels like a peace treaty where we agree that regardless of what we plan to play, 6 specific champs are going to ruin the experience for everyone involved. The upside to this, is if one of the champs that got through bans gets picked, winning doesn't feel dirty anymore because the enemy breached the treaty.

On a plus side, disregarding the tide-turning champions, (That go unpicked at times, likely for the same reason we don't use nuclear weapons), every champ feels viable except for the obvious(Teemo, Urgot).

Edit: On the other hand, relating to those champions. Getting ahead and then doing general stupid plays and calls doesn't feel like a risk and the most fun in a ranked match seems to be killing 2-3 enemies for no real reason and then dying stupidly for giggles while spamming an emote of choice and still winning despite whatever objective you gave up because of who you picked.
